NA Rallies Past Upstart North Hills, 4-2

The North Allegheny boys’ soccer team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 win over North Hills in Section 1-4A action. The victory keeps the Tigers unbeaten through 14 games on the season.

Playing on their home turf at Martorelli Stadium, the upstart Indians stunned the Tigers in the early going and grabbed a 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals in the first half. In the 15th minute, sophomore Adrian Rojik drew first blood, and two minutes later, junior Zach Fritz tacked on another marker to give North Hills an early two-goal lead.

North Allegheny regained its footing in the 31st minute when senior Arnav Patel sent a pass to junior Mykola Denysenko for a goal, trimming the North Hills advantage to 2-1. The goal by Denysenko opened the floodgates for the black and gold as two more goals quickly followed. In the 34th minute, junior Zach Nash tied the game at 2-2 with a goal, assisted by junior Caleb Rumberger. Just before halftime in the 40th minute, Patel scored on a feed from junior Lucas Henderson to vault NA in front, 3-2, at intermission.

The second half saw only one goal, which belonged to the Tigers, as Patel netted his second goal of the contest on a direct kick in the 46th minute to bring the score to its eventual final, 4-2, North Allegheny.

Seniors Dante Accamando and Ben Waldo combined for four saves and the victory. North Hills’ goalie Adrian Werner made seven saves in a losing effort.

North Alleghenhy remains unbeaten on the season and improves to 12-0-2 overall and 9-0-2 in Section 1-4A. North Hills slips to 3-9-1 overall and 1-9-1 in the section. The Tigers return home on Thursday for a tough section matchup with Fox Chapel. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
