Following a perfect opening weekend, the Tigers began section play hoping to stay perfect, and that’s just what they did, shutting out Shaler 5-0 in the 4A Section 1 opener at Newman Stadium.

It did not take North Allegheny long to get off on the right foot as it was the right foot of senior Luke Brady that found the net just 24 seconds into the game. Off the opening kickoff, Zach Nash took a pass and attacked down the right flank, and his pass led to a tap in for Brady’s first goal of the season.

Nash went to work again, this time on the left side, in the 16th minute. His pass found Joey Vojtas for his fourth goal of the season on another tap in for a 2-0 lead.

North Allegheny added a third goal in the 39th minute of the first half. A late corner kick and the ensuing ball led to Brady’s second goal of the game and a 3-0 halftime lead. That finished a great opening half for the Tigers as they dominated possession and did not allow a shot on goal.

Shaler evened the field some in the second half, but the Tigers went to work late to finish off the win.

Nash netted his fourth goal of the season, poking home a William Love rebound in the 76th minute, before Ian Schoedel found the net off a great free kick set piece in the game’s final minute to make the final 5-0.

Dante Accamando, with late relief help from Ryan Young shared the shutout, the second in three games for North Allegheny. The Tigers defense again had a stellar effort on the night, allowing just one shot on goal.

Zack Nash, with a goal and two assists, was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny (3-0, 1-0) continues section play on Thursday when they hit the road to face defending WPIAL 4A champion Pine-Richland. That match marks the first of two straight section road contests for the Tigers.
