The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team extended its winning streak to 20 in a row on Thursday night with a 57-41 victory over the visiting Seneca Valley Raiders in Section 1-6A action.

It was a sluggish beginning for both teams as the Tigers held a 5-2 advantage after one quarter of play. Despite the slow start, North Allegheny took flight in the second quarter with four 3-pointers, two from sophomore Caroline Henderson, and took a 21-11 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Junior Cam Phillips spurred on the offense in the second half with 11 of her team-high 13 points coming over the final 16 minutes to help NA pull away for a 16-point victory. Phillips earned Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors from the North Allegheny Sports Network.

Along with Phillips, junior Jasmine Timmerson touched double figures with 11 points and three 3-pointers. Junior Mia Tuman netted all eight of her points in the second half and Henderson also finished with eight points.

For Seneca Valley, senior Olivia West did her best to keep the Raiders afloat with 25 points, including 21 in the second half. West was the only Raider to tally double digits.

North Allegheny improves to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in Section 1-6A. Seneca Valley falls to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the section. The Tigers will visit Cumberland Valley on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for a tough non-section matchup with the Eagles. The game is a rematch of last year’s PIAA Class 6A semifinal, a game North Allegheny won 66-40 en route to a state championship.
