Tigers Top Tornado For Section Win, 62-43

The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team traveled to Butler on Monday night and earned a 62-43 win in Section 1-6A action.

The Tigers overcame a strong start by the Golden Tornado, who jumped out to a 16-14 after one quarter of play. Senior Jessica Chwalik knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the opening stanza on her way to a 15-point night.

However, North Allegheny bounced back in the second quarter and outscored Butler, 16-9, to grab a 30-25 lead at the half. From that point on, the Tigers controlled the game and rolled to the win in the second half.

The Tigers were paced by the steady inside presence of senior forward Lydia Betz and her game-high 25 points. Senior guard Caroline Henderson netted 11 points and fellow senior Grace Heliger totaled 10 points. Butler was led by junior Amelia McMichael and her 16-point performance.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in Section 1-6A, while Butler falls to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the section. The Tigers will host Seneca Valley on Thursday night for an important section clash. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
