Tigers Top Rams For Senior Night Victory
By: Jared Barton
The North Allegheny boys’ soccer team mathematically punched a ticket to the postseason with a 3-1 win over Pine-Richland on Senior Night from Newman Stadium Tuesday.
An all-senior starting lineup took the field for the Tigers in the opening half, including goalkeeper Ryan Young, who played the striker position throughout the contest. North Allegheny drew first blood in the chippy contest. With just over 25 minutes remaining in the half, senior Lucas Henderson threw the ball in from the near sideline towards the box. Fellow senior Ben Hickel picked up the rebound off a deflection and nailed the game’s opening marker, his first goal of the season. Roughly 10 minutes later, Pine-Richland responded with a throw-in goal of their own scored by Charlie Kapanowski. With exactly four minutes left in the opening frame, NA earned a corner kick from the nearside flag. Senior Nathan Katari centered the ball toward the net and was deflected at the nearside post into the goal by Henderson giving the Tigers another lead.
North Allegheny added an insurance marker in the second half with just over 21 minutes left in the contest. Senior Noah Hutter caused a turnover in the NA offensive zone, turned and fed a pass to Katari who placed a shot past the Pine-Richland keeper. Other players who battled in the game included seniors Myk Densysenko and Ryan Eck as well as juniors Leonardo Yu and Kevin Chen.
Seniors Ryan Dyga and Emiliano Perin earned the combined victory in net. Henderson was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game for his two-point night and extraordinary effort on the field throughout the contest.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 11-2-1 overall and 6-1 in section play. The Tigers are back in action Thursday night against Butler from Newman Stadium. That match will be broadcast live on the NA Sports Network with coverage starting at 7:00 p.m.
