North Allegheny boys’ soccer traveled to Pine-Richland for a big rivalry section game on Thursday evening. The Tigers came away with a 3-0 road victory.

The game started out slowly as both teams spent the majority of the first half trading possessions with no real scoring opportunities. With five minutes remaining in the half, freshman Evan Montgomery took a long pass just outside the 18-yard box, turned and unleashed a strong left-footed shot that made its way past the Pine-Richland goalkeeper for his first varsity goal.

NA turned up the pressure coming out of halftime and doubled their lead early into the second with a goal from senior captain Connor Heliger. NA kept up the pressure and had numerous other scoring chances. With about 30 minutes remaining in the game, junior goalie Jaxon Cowger received a yellow card for time wasting, forcing sophomore Jacob Elias into action. He faced a couple of shots in his short stint but was able to make all of the saves to keep the clean sheet.

With just under 10 minutes remaining, sophomore Josh Tufts took the ball down the right side of the field and sent a cross that found the foot of junior Vik Vaders for the final goal. A big shoutout to the NA students who made the trip to Pine-Richland and gave the feel of a home game. They were able to help bring the energy and help secure the victory.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday from Newman Stadium for a non-section home match against Upper St. Clair.  That 7:30 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
