Tigers Trounce Tornado For 5th Straight Win
The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team won its fifth consecutive game on Thursday night with a 56-29 rout of Butler in Section 1-6A action.
After surviving a scare on the road at Pine-Richland earlier in the week, North Allegheny left nothing to chance at third-place Butler. The Tigers breezed by the Tornado and invoked the mercy rule in the first minute of the third quarter, building an insurmountable 41-11 advantage. NA coasted through the remainder of the second half for a 56-29 win, remaining in a first-place tie atop the section with Norwin.
The Tigers used a balanced attack against the Golden Tornado with eight different players touching the scoresheet. Leading the way was junior Kellie McConnell, who netted a game-high 15 points and poured in four 3-pointers. Junior guard Caroline Henderson totaled 11 points and buried a trio of treys. In all, North Allegheny collectively knocked down nine shots from beyond the arc in a sharp shooting performance. The Tigers stifling defense didn’t allow a double-digit scorer to the Tornado.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 13-4 overall and 7-1 in Section 1-6A. Butler slips to 10-9 overall and 4-4 in the section. The Tigers will return home on Saturday to face Cumberland Valley in a PIAA Class 6A playoff rematch.
