Tigers Vanquish Titans, 39-32

The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team won its sixth consecutive game to open the 2023-2024 season with a 39-32 triumph at Shaler on Thursday night. The Tigers used a stifling defense to limit the Titans to just 12 points through the first three quarters and held on in the fourth period for the non-section win.

The inside-out combo of senior forward Lydia Betz and senior guard Kellie McConnell proved to be too much for Shaler. Betz and McConnell netted 16 points each, accounting for 86-percent of the offense. Betz dominated the paint with seven field goals, while McConnell buried a pair of treys on the perimeter. For Shaler, freshman Reese Smetanka posted 13 points, including seven in the fourth period.

Remaining unbeaten, North Allegheny improves to 6-0 on the season, while Shaler falls to 3-5. The Tigers will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 28 at the Holiday Basketball Showcase against Quaker Valley at 2:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
