North Allegheny came into the match looking for a win, as a victory or draw would give the Tigers the outright Section 3-4A title.

Fox Chapel’s task was to get wins in both of their remaining section matches, including one at Newman Stadium, which would earn them a share of that title with North Allegheny.

Senior Aidan Stein made sure the Foxes have something to play for next Monday, as his third goal of the match 2:43 into overtime gave Fox Chapel a 3-2 win and a season series split with North Allegheny.

Nathan Katari netted his 8th goal of the season off a right-wing feed from Noah Hutter to stake the Tigers to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Stein equalized with a left footed run and shot three minutes later.

It was Hutter’s turn to put the Tigers in front in the second half, as he found a loose ball and scored on a breakaway in the 59th minute to make the score 2-1. But Stein took a feed from Rocco DiDomenico and found the net with a precision right footed strike in the 71st minute.

The Tigers couldn’t find a go-ahead goal in the final minutes of regulation or in the start of the extra session, before Stein struck for the third time in the 83rd minute of play.

Ryan Young had a double digit save evening despite taking the loss which gave the Tigers a chance to win.

Fox Chapel, (9-3-1, 7-2), visits North Hills on Monday, and a win would create a shared section title with North Allegheny.

With a goal, his fifth, and an assist, Hutter was chosen as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game

North Allegheny, (13-3-1, 8-2), had won nine straight matches before the OT loss. The match was the final section tilt for the Tigers, who finish the regular season against Central Catholic Monday night in the second match of a girls-boys doubleheader that will be carried on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
