Photo Courtesy of Jim Lorish BETHEL PARK BEATS TIGERS, 10-3 The Bethel Park Blackhawks defeated the Tigers, 10-3, in a PIRHL contest at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night. Dylan Rohar, C.J. Cooper, and Dan Gaertner scored the NA goals. Matt Carroll and Tyler Trocano had three goals each to pace Bethel. The Blackhawks started early in the first period when Nick Brown scored a power play goal just 40 seconds into the game. Tyler Trocano made it 2-0 at the 11:28 mark before Rohar came back on an assist from Gaertner to cut the margin to 2-1 with 7:43 remaining in the period. Trocano scored his second goal at the 5:43 mark to give Bethel Park a 3-1 advantage after one period. The second period was all Bethel Park as they scored five unanswered goals. Eddie Kessler started the scoring 2:15 into the period to extend the margin to 4-1. Brown added his second goal on a power play at the 10:45 mark to make it a 5-1 game. Kenny Loeffler got into the scoring column for the Blackhawks at the 3:07 mark as the lead went to 6-1. Later in the period, Carroll scored twice to extend the lead to 8-1. The Tigers got on the board again with just 23 seconds left when Cooper scored on an assist from Brian Carothers. The Blackhawks took a commanding 8-2 lead into the final period. Early in the third period, Gaertner scored an unassisted goal to cut the margin to 8-3, but NA would not score again. Goals by Carroll and Trocano finished off the BP scoring as they won by a 10-3 score. Senior Nick Bradley was in goal for the Tigers. With the loss, the Tigers record dropped to 3-3 in PIRHL play. NA is currently in fifth place. The Tigers will be back in action again on Saturday, December 16, when they meet Norwin. Game time at the RMU-Island Sports Center is scheduled for 6:30 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BALDWIN TOPS TIGERS, 6-4 Baldwin edged the Tigers, 6-4, on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center. Senior Dan Gaertner had a pair of goals with Steve Leibhart and Bryan Greco adding a goal each to pace the Tigers. Baldwin took a 3-2 lead after one period and held off an NA rally to win. Baldwin scored the first three goals of the game before the Tigers got on the board. Just 30 seconds into the contest, Matt Schneider gave the Highlanders a 1-0 lead on an assist from Nick Posa. Later in the period, Nick Hinsch made it 2-0 at the 7:29 mark. An unassisted goal by Chad Revak pushed the margin to 3-0 with 6:34 remaining. The Tigers got two quick goals in the last minute to get back into the game. Leibhart cut the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted goal with 47 seconds left, and Gaertner cut the margin to 3-2 with only six seconds left. Baldwin took a 3-2 advantage into the first intermission. Baldwin scored the only goal of the second period when Matt Schneider scored 53 seconds into the stanza. Neither team scored for the remainder of the period, and Baldwin led, 4-2, after two periods of play. In the third period, Hinsch's second goal of the game pushed the lead to 5-2 at the 8:56 mark. The Tigers rallied, however, as Greco scored on an assist from Leibhart to cut the lead to 5-3 just 31 seconds later. Gaertner scored an unassisted goal at the 4:58 mark to cut the lead to 5-4. Hinsch came back to complete the hat trick while scoring the insurance goal with 3:37 remaining. The Tigers could not get any closer as Baldwin was able to hold on for the 6-4 victory. With the loss, the NA record dropped to 3-2 in PIRHL contests. The Tigers will meet Bethel Park on Sunday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center. Game time is scheduled for 5:45 pm. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * GREENSBURG SALEM HANDS NA FIRST LOSS, 14-11 The Tigers lost their first game of the season after three wins as the Greensburg Salem Lions edged NA, 14-11, at Hot Shots Sports Arena on Saturday. Sophomore Dylan Rohar scored five goals and added three assists while senior Dan Gaertner added three goals and two assists, but it was not enough as Greensburg rallied in the third period to score seven goals. In the first period, Rohar got the Tigers off and running just 38 seconds into the game but Tyler Davis answered seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. After C.J. Cooper put NA ahead, 2-1, Shane Davis tied it a 2-2 at the 7:37 mark. Rohar's second goal gave NA a 3-2 lead after one period. The teams traded goals in the second period. Rohar scored his third with just 1:37 gone in the period, but Shane Davis came back to cut the lead to 4-3 at the 10:11 mark. Shane and Tyler Davis put the Lions ahead for the first time, 5-4, after Gaertner's unassisted goal had given NA the lead. Goals by Gaertner and Rohar pushed the lead to 7-4, but Shane Davis scored the last three goals of the period, the last with fourteen seconds remaining, and the teams went to the second intermission tied at 7-7. The Lions jumped ahead early in the third period on goals by Jeff Leech and Tyler Davis, but NA scored three straight to go ahead, 10-9. Bryan Greco, Rohar and Gaertner sparked the NA rally as they took the lead with 8:40 remaining. Bryan Carothers pushed the lead to 11-9 on an assist from Rohar at the 6:23 mark. Greensburg Salem then exploded for five goals in the final 5:50 to earn the come from behind victory. Tyler Davis scored three times and Shane Davis twice to give the Lions the win. Nick Bradley was in goal for the Tigers. The loss dropped the Tigers to fourth place in the league standings in the early going. NA will meet Baldwin on Saturday at the RMU-Island Sports Center with game time scheduled for 6:30 pm. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * ROHAR'S GOAL BEATS BALDWIN IN OVERTIME, 9-8 Sophomore Dylan Rohar scored in overtime to give the Tigers a 9-8 victory over Baldwin on Saturday. Senior Dan Gaertner had a hat trick for the winning Tigers while Rohar, Steve Leibhart, and C.J. Cooper scored two goals each. It was a special night as there was a ceremony before the game to honor Eric Pelly and retire his jersey number 88. Eric's family and many of his friends attended. After Cooper gave NA a 1-0 lead, Baldwin came back with four straight goals. Matt Schneider scored twice and Nick Hinsch and Chad Revak added goals as the Highlanders took a 4-1 lead with 2:43 remaining in the period. Leibhart cut the margin to 4-2 on an assist from Rohar with just 53 seconds left, but Baldwin still took a two-goal lead into the intermission. Early in the second period, the Tigers tied the game on two power play goals by Gaertner. With 5:36 left in the period, Nick Posa put Baldwin back on top, 5-4. NA answered with three straight goals. Leibhart got his second from Gaertner just 34 seconds later to tie the game. Cooper's second goal of the game gave the Tigers a 6-5 lead, and Rohar extended it to 7-5 on Gaertner's assist. After two period, NA had a two-goal lead. Baldwin came back strong early in the third period to regain the lead. Schneider scored twice in the first 1:47 of the period to tie the game at 7-7. Ryan Smith put the Highlanders ahead, 8-7, with an unassisted goal with 11:34 left in the period. Once again, the Tigers rallied to tie the game on Gaertner's third goal of the game on an assist from Brian Greco. Neither team could score in the remainder of regulation time sending the game to overtime. Rohar was able to get the game winner in OT as the Tigers pulled out a 9-8 victory. Senior Nick Bradley was in goal for the Tigers. The win kept NA unbeaten in league play with a 3-0 record. The Tigers will meet Greensburg Salem at the Hot Shot Sports Arena on Saturday with game time set for 5:00 pm. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS WIN TWO TO OPEN SEASON The defending Pennsylvania State Champion Tigers opened their season on Saturday with a pair of victories at Bladerunners in Harmarville. In the first game, senior Dan Gaertner scored in overtime to give the Tigers a 6-5 victory over Hampton. Gaertner finished with three goals and sophomore Dylan Rohar added three assists. NA held off Avonworth in the second contest to post an 8-7 victory with Rohar scoring a hat trick to pace the Tigers. Brian Carothers added two goals and an assist for the winning Tigers. In the first game, the Tigers jumped off to a 2-1 lead after one period on unassisted goals by Carothers and Bryan Greco. C.J. Cooper tallied the only second period goal on an assist by Greco as the Talbots came back to tie the score at 3-3. In the final period, Gaertner scored twice with Rohar assisting on both goals, but a comeback by Hampton in the final minutes sent the game to overtime. Rohar set up Gaertner for the winning goal in the extra period as the Tigers took a 6-5 victory. Goalie Nick Bradley made 26 saves for NA. In game two, Rohar's unassisted goal put the Tigers in a 1-1 tie with Avonworth after one period. In the second period, the Tigers tallied four goals with Carothers scoring twice, Greco once and Steve Leibhart once as NA took a 5-4 advantage into the final period. In the final period, a power play goal by Cooper extended the lead to 6-4. Rohar added two more scores, one on a power play, to push the lead to 8-5, with ten minutes remaining. Avonworth rallied to cut the margin to one, but NA held on to win the game by an 8-7 count. Bradley was again in goal for the Tigers and made 22 saves. With the win, the Tigers start the season with a record of 2-0 in section play. NA will meet the Seneca Valley White team on Saturday night in the next league contest.
