SENECA VALLEY WINS, 1-0, TO END TIGERS' SEASON

The Seneca Valley Raiders scored only once on Senior Night at Newman Stadium on Tuesday night, but it was enough to beat the Tigers, 1-0, and knock NA from contention for the WPIAL playoffs.  Chas Elliot's goal midway through the second half after a deflection on an NA clearing pass ended the Tigers' season.

The Tigers started out strong as they pressured the Seneca Valley goal in the early going.  Senior MF Chet Gapczynski cross to Ian McFarlane, senior defender Nick Severyn sent a long ball into the SV penalty area, and senior forward Ian Payling had a chance off a corner kick, but none of the NA opportunities turned into goals.  Senior MF Matt Dunn had a pair of chances but shot wide on one and had the second attempt stopped by the Seneca keeper.  Ten minutes into the half, the Raiders came close when a direct kick by Justin Geier went wide of the NA goal.  Minutes later, it was R.J. Case sending a direct kick into the box that was cleared by NA forward Brian Jewell.  The Raiders sent a through ball to Ethan Richter but his attempt went wide of the Tiger goal.  Two additional direct kicks by Geier were defended by the Tigers.  NA countered with more missed opportunities.  With 24 minutes left, Payling sent senior forward Garland Page in on the net, but his shot went wide right.  Junior Justin Facer sent a direct kick toward the SV goal with Page getting a foot on it only to see the ball stopped by the Raider GK.  Facer sent a long cross to junior forward Tommy Petrus but his left-footed attempt was stopped.  Dunn chipped a ball over the SV defense and senior Andrew Barbin headed the ball toward the goal, but again, the SV keeper was there.  The Tigers did not give up as they continued to attack.  Senior defender Phil Greenblatt drove a midfield cross to sophomore Danny Crawford but his shot was cleared by the SV defense.  Later, Jewell sent a cross into the box that was cleared.  With 14:24 remaining, Kevin Andreone set up teammate Chas Elliot but his shot was wide of the goal.  The Tigers countered with Gapczynski chipping the ball to McFarlane who headed the ball just over the crossbar.  Neither team was able to mount another scoring chance as the defenses prevailed.  The teams went to the intermission with a scoreless tie.

In the second half, it was Seneca Valley who came out with the early pressure.  A chance by Ryan Bernhard was defended by senior Trevor King.  A long shot by Case was handled by NA senior goalkeeper Kevin Dreher.  Later in the half, Dunn dropped off a pass to Greenblatt who missed left of the goal.  Jewell sent another cross into the box but the Raiders' Scott Fuller cleared the attempt.  A through ball to Barbin was stopped by SV's Matt Jones.  The Raiders finally broke through with 19:06 remaining when Elliot intercepted an NA pass that was deflected toward midfield.  Elliot's long shot from 35 yards found its way into the net for what proved to be the game's only score.  The Tigers continued to pressure the SV goal for the remainder of the game but could not finish.  Chances by Greenblatt, junior David Gettemy, junior Ken Nakajima, and sophomore Andrew McIlvried were not successful as the SV defense held off all the NA attempts.  The Raiders won a tough 1-0 decision that sent them into a third-place tie with Shaler and a berth in the WPIAL Playoffs.

It was another tough loss for the Tigers who played most teams evenly over the course of the year.  It was the lack of scoring more than anything else that kept NA out of the playoffs.    With the loss, the Tigers finished with a final section record of 3-6-1 and a final overall mark of 5-10-3.  NA ended up in fifth place in section play.

TIGERS PICK PLUM, 2-0, FOR SECOND
 STRAIGHT VICTORY

The Tigers traveled to Plum on Saturday afternoon and came home with a 2-0 victory.  After a scoreless first half, the Tigers dominated second half play with junior forward Tommy Petrus scoring twice to lead NA to the victory.  The win was the second straight for the Tigers.

Early in the first half, the Tigers turned up the pressure but could not score.  Senior forward Ian McFarlane had the first chance with a hard shot from 30 yards that went over the goal just 1:54 into the contest.  A little over a minute later, senior MF Matt Dunn got off a quick turning shot from 20 yards directly in front of the goal but was stopped by the Plum goalkeeper.  At the 24:35 mark, senior defender Nick Severyn sent a long shot from 35 yards that got up into the win and almost floated into the net before the GK made a last second save.  Plum came back with 21:52 left when Clayton Cubrick sent a hard shot toward senior NA keeper Kevin Dreher who made the save.  The ball rebounded out to around 30 yards away, but the Plum shot went wide right.  Plum continued to pressure the NA goal with Dreher making a good stop on a header at the 19:09 mark.  Two minutes later, Plum's Andy Russo sent two shots toward the NA goal but could not beat Dreher.  Less than a minute later, McFarlane drove a long attempt from 35 but the Plum GK made the stop.  The Tigers had a chance with 12:05 left when senior Brian Jewell came in along the goal line and sent a cross to senior forward Ian Payling in front of the goal, but the shot was stopped.  Payling had another opportunity with 10:22 left in the half when senior MF Chet Gapczynski sent a through ball to the NA senior but his shot from 18 yards was not converted.  A minute later, Jewell put another through ball to senior forward Garland Page but his shot was stopped by the keeper.  With 6:40 on the first half clock, Evan Phillips of the Mustangs sent a hard shot that Dreher stopped and Severyn cleared from in front of the NA goal.  The Tigers had one last chance at the 3:52 mark when Gapczynski drove a hard curving shot that was barely stopped by the Plum keeper.  On the ensuing corner, the Tigers could not convert as Plum cleared the ball.  Neither team had further chances as the first half ended in a scoreless tie.

The second half belonged to the Tigers.  NA began to pressure the Plum goal at the 34:32 mark when a long attempt by senior Andy Barbin just missed the far post.  Two minutes later, Gapczynski missed high right from 30 yards away.  NA Head Coach Bobby Vosmaer make a change in goal with 28:21 remaining with Ian McFarlane taking over for Dreher.  After Gapcyznski shot wide at the 18:56 mark, Plum came back but Severyn stopped the Mustang attack by driving the Plum forward wide.  The Tigers continued to get chances --- junior Justin Facer was stopped from 16 yards with 16:22 left, junior Kenny Nakajima almost beat the Plum keeper to  a loose ball in the box with 15:04 remaining, and a cross from Payling to Jewell 12 yards out was sent over the crossbar.  The Tigers finally broke through with 11:02 left in the game when Petrus scored from 6 yards away on a cross by Jewell to give NA a 1-0 lead.  Jewell sent Petrus in again with 9:43 left but his shot from the left side was stopped.  With 8:00 left, the Tigers put together a good scoring chance building from midfield on passes from Severyn to Jewell to Gapczynski to Nakajima who crossed to Petros at the far post.  The attempt just missed.  With 3:37 left, Gapczynski had another opportunity but his hard shot from 25 yards was stopped by the Plum GK.   The Tigers finally put the game away when Petrus scored his second goal of the game on a pass from Nakajima with just three minutes left.  NA held off  Plum for the remaining time to take home a well-earned 2-0 victory.  The Tigers outshot Plum, 16-0, in the second half.

It was a good win for the Tigers on the road over a good Plum team that fell to 11-5-0 on the season.  With the victory, the overall NA record improved to 5-9-3.  The Tigers will meet Seneca Valley tomorrow night on Senior Night with a playoff berth on the line.  NA needs held from Butler, but an NA win and a Shaler loss will leave the Tigers in a third-place tie with the Titans.  Game time is scheduled for 8:05 pm tomorrow night with Senior Night ceremonies before the game.

TIGERS CRUSH RIVAL NORTH HILLS, 9-1

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Tigers exploded for nine goals against archrival North Hills at Newman Stadium on Thursday night as they posted a 9-1 victory over the Indians.  Senior forwards Ian Payling and Ian McFarlane both had three goal hat tricks to pace NA.  Also scoring for the Tigers were seniors Matt Dunn, Andy Barbin and Garland Page.

The Tigers took control of the contest right from the outset.  Dunn scored on a turning shot from 25 yards just 55 seconds into the game to give NA a 1-0 lead.  The Tigers had numerous additional chances to score in the early going.  At the 2:40 mark, Payling hit the right post and Barbin was robbed by NH goalkeeper Sean Neely on the rebound attempt.  Less than a minute later, Barbin had another good opportunity but his header went wide.  A little over a minute later, Dunn's shot was blocked and Barbin put the rebound over the goal.  Two minutes later, senior forward Brian Jewell hit the crossbar.  North Hills almost scored at the 27:30 mark when a long attempt was misplayed in the NA box, but the Tiger defense and senior GK Kevin Dreher recovered in time.  With 25:58 remaining, senior MF Chet Gapczynski made a great run down the left side and got off a shot from 10 yards on the left that Neely stopped.  Payling was right there to drove home the rebound and make it 2-0.  Jewell and Gapczynski had two more shots go wide in the next several minutes before Payling scored again.  After taking a pass from senior defender Phil Greenblatt, Payling used a nice spin move from 15 yards to put the ball high in the left corner.  NA had a 3-0 lead with 20:49 still left in the half.  Three minutes later, McFarlane made a long run down the left side and crossed to Page who was stopped by Neely.  The Indians were able to beat the off side trap with Brandon Jackson breaking in alone to beat Dreher and cut the lead to 3-1 with 13:07 left.  With 6:04 remaining, McFarlane went high to head in a corner kick by Payling to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.  Neither team threatened in the remaining time as the Tigers took a three-goal lead to the intermission.

The second half was more of the same.  Once again, the Tigers struck quickly when McFarlane drilled a shot into the top corner of the goal from 20 yards away just 1:28 into the half.  After the Tigers hit the crossbar, Payling was there again for the rebound as he scored his third of the game at the 29:01 mark.  A little over two minutes later, Gapczynski set up Barbin for a header as the NA lead went to 7-1.  Dunn came close at the 22:06 mark when he hit the football goal post.  Page came back minutes later to hit the left post.  With 17:24 remaining in the game, Dunn sent a perfect pass to McFarlane who finished his hat trick to make it an 8-1 NA lead.  Page finally ended a night of frustrations when he scored after a long run down the left side with 16:18 remaining in the game.  Page almost scored again less than two minutes later but his shot went over the goal.  Tiger coach Bobby Vosmaer cleared the bench with a little over eleven minutes left in the game.  The NA reserves played the final minutes of the contest with neither team scoring as the Tigers came away with a resounding 9-1 triumph.

It was a dominating performance by the Tigers who recorded fifteen corner kicks to just two for the Indians.  For his efforts off the bench, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Ian McFarlane as the Player of the Game.

With the win, the Tigers improved their section record to 3-5-1, their overall mark to 4-9-3.  NA remains in the playoff race and a win over Seneca Valley on Tuesday, coupled with a Shaler loss to Butler, will put the Tigers in a third-place tie with Shaler.  NA will travel to Plum on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 pm non-section contest.  The Tigers will host Seneca Valley on Monday night in the final section game.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:30 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:45 pm.

TIGERS DROP 3-0 CONTEST TO BUTLER

The Butler Tornado proved why they are one of the top teams in the WPIAL with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers at Butler on Tuesday night.  The Tornado scored once in the first half and added two more in the second on the way to their second victory over NA this season.

The Tigers had an early chance but senior midfielder Matt Dunn shot wide 6:30 into the contest.  Butler came back with several scoring opportunities led by the offence of Doug Moran, Ben Horner and Wade Grubbs.  The NA defense and senior GK Ian McFarlane were able to deny the Tornado and keep the game scoreless.  Butler broke through at the 17:52 mark to score the games' first goal.  The Tigers countered with a good opportunity on a through ball from junior Justin Facer to senior forward Andrew Barbin, but the Butler defense kept NA from scoring.  The Tornado took a 1-0 advantage to the intermission.

Early in the second half, senior defender Phil Greenblatt beat Butler GK Tim Duffy to a ball in the box.  Senior MF Chet Gapczynski got off a good shot on a cross from Greenblatt, but Tornado defender Kevin McCune made the save to keep the one-goal lead.  Butler came back with a scoring chance but McFarlane stopped Grubbs from inside the box.  Two corner kicks were denied by the NA defense with 25 minutes remaining.  NA continued to press for the equalizer.  Junior MF Ken Nakajima set up Greenblatt for a chance that was cleared by the Tornado defense.  With 18:18 left, a direct kick by senior forward Brian Jewell was sent wide by NA senior defender Nick Severyn.  At the 16:19 mark, McCune sent a high pass from Horner over the goal.  Butler was able to take a 2-0 lead with 12:17 remaining when Horner's direct kick was headed into the net.  The Tornado added a third goal when Moran got a breakaway to set up a breaking midfielder for the tally.  Butler held off the Tigers for the remainder of the contest and captured the 3-0 victory.

The loss dropped the NA section record to 2-5-1, the overall mark to 3-9-3.  The Tigers will host rival North Hills tomorrow night at Newman Stadium.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:30 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:45 pm.

PINE-RICHLAND BLANKS TIGERS, 2-0

Pine-Richland defeated the Tigers, 2-0, at Newman Stadium on Thursday night to maintain their hold on first place in section play.  Two first half goals by the Rams were enough as they held off a furious Tiger rally in the second half.  NA had chances to get back in the game but could not convert.

The Rams came out strong with several scoring chances in the first eleven minutes, but the Tiger defense was able to deny any scores.  Midway through the half, the Tigers came close when a cross into the box was redirected by senior forward Garland Page just out of the reach of sophomore Tom Petrus who was attacking from the left side.  A little over a minute later, Adrian Karas took a pass over the NA defense to score the first goal of the game as the Rams took a 1-0 lead.  The Tigers countered when senior Ian Payling sent a direct kick over the goal at the 17:25 mark.  With 14:24 remaining, an NA passing combination nearly scored when senior forward Brian Jewell penetrated the right side before dropping the ball back to senior Nick Severyn.  The Tiger defender found senior MF Chet Gapczynski open in front of the Ram goal.  Gapczynski's attempt to equalize was blocked by the P-R defense.  The Rams struck again at the 5:31 mark on another long ball over the NA defense that Brian Nicklas was able to track down to score the Rams' second goal.  The Tigers countered late in the half, but Gapczynski's attempt from the 18 was sent wide to the right of the goal.  The Rams took a 2-0 advantage to the intermission.

In the second half, the Tigers rallied to pressure the P-R goal throughout the period.  Early on, NA had three opportunities but could not cash in.  Gapczynski got off a high shot, senior Andrew Barbin sent a diagonal cross to Petrus that was not converted, and Severyn sent a through ball to Jewell that was cleared by the Ram defense.  With 25:50 remaining, Ram GK Mike Hanahan was forced to make a good save on a shot by Severyn from 16 yards out.  The ensuing corner was not converted.  In the remaining twenty minutes, the Tigers built three additional opportunities but could not break through.  Jewell sent a through ball to junior MF Ken Nakajima that the Ram defense was able to defend, senior forward Matt Dunn passed to Jewell who's chip shot was headed over the goal by junior midfielder David Gettemy, and Dunn's attempt from 17 yards was stopped by Hanahan.  In the last five minutes, the Tigers pressured the Ram defense but could not score.

It was a tough loss for the Tigers who could not answer the two first half goals by the Rams.  With the loss, the NA section record fell to 2-4-1, the overall mark to 3-8-3.  The Tigers will travel to Butler on Tuesday night to meet the Tornado in a section contest.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

TIGER RALLY FALLS SHORT AS SHALER WINS, 2-1

Sophomore Danny Crawford scored with 46 seconds remaining in the game, but it was not enough as Shaler held on for a 2-1 victory at Shaler on Tuesday night.  NA had numerous scoring opportunities including 12 corner kicks but could not convert.  The Titans scored both goals in the first half.

The Tigers had an early scoring chance when senior Brian Jewell was unable to finish a pass from junior Justin Facer.  Later in the half, senior Chet Gapczynski's attempt from the 18 went wide left with 31:10 remaining.  Shaler countered in the next five minutes with Kevin Monahan getting the best chance on a direct kick.  An outside cross was defended by the Tigers.  Jewell came back with a cross to Facer who was stopped by the Shaler GK.  NA had two opportunities when Gapczynski could not convert after being fouled, and senior defender Nick Severyn's cross into the box was stopped by the Shaler keeper.  The Tigers continued to pressure the Titan goal without success.  Facer had a chance from 25 that was stopped by the GK, a corner by Jewell was sent just wide by junior Tommy Petrus, and a free kick by Jewell was headed by senior Andrew Barbin that was stopped again by the keeper.  Facer had another chance missing just wide, and a diagonal cross by Severyn to Petrus who earned a corner kick.  It was Shaler, however, that scored first when Monahan beat the NA offside trap to take the ball around the Tiger defense and score at the 9:19 mark.  Less than two minutes later, it was Monahan again who penetrated the NA defense and directed a cross to Andy Paloudas who scored from six yards out to give Shaler a 2-0 advantage.  NA had two more opportunities but could not score as Shaler took the 2-0 lead to the intermission.

Early in the second half, Gapczynski earned another NA corner when his hard shot was deflected by the Shaler keeper.  On the corner, the Titans headed it over the goal line for another NA corner.  This time, senior defenseman Trevor King redirected the ball to senior Steve Evankovich who had his shot stopped by the GK.  After two Shaler counterattacks were denied by the NA defense, Barbin drew a foul at the 33:16 mark.  A direct kick by Severyn was stopped by the Shaler defense.  With 26:40 remaining, Petrus was able to stop a Shaler scoring chance but gave up a corner.  On the ensuing corner, King was able to clear the ball.  The Tigers countered with Gapczysnki sending a cross to Severyn who set up Petrus for a shot that missed the net.  After another corner was denied by the Titans, senior Matt Dunn sent a through ball to senior forward Garland Page but he was unable to beat the Shaler keeper.  NA kept up the pressure and had a great chance with 15:14 remaining.  After a corner was created from a Dunn to Crawford pass, senior Ian Payling had his attempt punched out by the keeper.  In the next several minutes, the Tigers earned two more corners but could not score.

With eight minutes remaining, Payling's shot from 20 yards was stopped in front of the goal.  A subsequent Shaler counter attack was defended away by senior Ian McFarlane.  NA continued to pressure the Shaler goal in the final minutes.  With 6:18 remaining, a shot by Dunn missed the goal, and Payling was stopped with 4:47 left.  Page had a chance at the 1:50 mark but his attempt hit the crossbar.  Finally, Crawford was able to put NA on the board with just 46 seconds remaining in the game.  The Tigers had one last chance with 19 seconds on the clock, but a direct kick from 25 yards out was cleared by the Shaler defense.

It was a tough loss for the Tigers as they dominated play but could not score.  With the loss, the NA section record fell to 2-3-1 while the overall mark dropped to 3-7-3.  The Tigers will host Pine-Richland tomorrow night at Newman Stadium with game time set for 7:30 pm.

BEAVER EDGES TIGERS, 2-1, IN NON-SECTION CONTEST

A goal midway through the second half proved to be the difference as the Beaver Bobcats defeated the Tigers, 2-1, in a non-section game at Beaver on Saturday morning.  Senior forward Ian Payling scored the NA goal on a direct kick to tie the game.  Sam Sestito had two assists to pace the Bobcats.

The Tigers started quickly with two early scoring opportunities.  NA had an early chance when junior Justin Facer sent a cross to senior forward Andrew Barbin who sent senior forward Ian McFarlane in but his shot missed.  Senior defender Nick Severyn created another chance when he drove a long crossfield pass to McFarlane.  The NA forward found Barbin but his left-footed attempt missed wide.  Beaver came back to take the lead.  After Justin Turnley hit the post, David Buckenheimer gave the Bobcats the 1-0 lead with Sestito picking up the assist at the 30:25 mark.  The Tigers had several scoring attempts in the next ten minutes.  Senior Brian Jewell had a direct kick, senior midfielder Chet Gapczynski a shot from the 18, and Facer from just outside the box, but none were finished.

Midway through the half, Beaver regained the momentum.  A shot by Buckenheimer was stopped by the NA defense, Adam Brewer sent an attempt over the goal, and a direct kick by Turnley was sent wide by Neil Shaffer.  Tiger senior GK Kevin Dreher was forced to punch out an attempt by Buckenheimer, and Severyn headed out a corner kick.  The Tigers came back late in the half.  Gapczynski had a chance from the 18 but NA was called offside.    Barbin sent a cross through the box that went untouched, and Jewell missed wide as the half wound down.  The teams went to the intermission with Beaver holding a 1-0 advantage.

After Beaver could not convert a corner just 2:20 into the second half, the Tigers countered with a long pass from Severyn to Payling who was fouled just outside the box.  The Beaver defense stopped the direct and subsequent corner kicks.  Beaver came back when Buckenheimer stole a pass at midfield and sent a shot over the NA goal.  Minutes later, Shaffer was stopped by Dreher after an errant Tiger pass.  The Tigers broke through to get the equalizer at the 30:14 mark.  After Payling drew another Bobcat foul just outside the box, the NA forward put the direct kick into the upper left hand corner to tie the game at 1-1.  Less than four minutes later, McFarlane, who was now in goal, had to punch out a corner by Buckenheimer.  NA countered with another scoring attempt.  Senior Garland Page took a pass from Payling and sent junior forward Tommy Petrus in along the left sideline.  Petrus drove the ball hard but wide of the Beaver net.  With 17:20 remaining, Audi Russian cleared an NA corner and the Bobcats quickly countered.  Sestito got past the NA midway and sent a perfect cross to Brewer who finished.  The goal with 16:57 left gave the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage.

The Tigers had a number of chances to tie the game in the latter stages but could not find the net.  After junior Kenny Nakajima's corner was cleared over the Beaver goal line, Page headed a second corner by junior MF Latham Luoco over the crossbar with 12:25 left.  After two attempts by Beaver were not successful, senior MF Matt Dunn got loose 22 yards out, but Russian was able to deny him a shot.  In the last two minutes, Buckenheimer had two opportunities but senior defender Trevor King stopped the first and a diving save by McFarlane denied the second.  The game ended with Beaver taking the hard-earned 2-1 victory.

The loss dropped the overall NA record to 3-5-2 on the season.  The Tigers have two important section games this week.  On Tuesday, NA travels to Pine-Richland for a 5:00 section contest while on Thursday, the Tigers will be at Seneca Valley for a 3:30 pm game.

JV UPDATE:  The JV team defeated the Bobcats, 4-0.

FOUR FIRST HALF GOALS LEAD TIGERS OVER
NORTH HILLS, 4-0

Senior forward Ian McFarlane scored two goals and added an assist, and senior MF Chet Gapczynski recorded a pair of goals as the Tigers broke a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory at North Hills on Thursday night.  NA scored all four goals in the first half and used a strong defense to shut out the Indians the rest of the way.

The Tigers took control of the contest early.  At the 13:00 minute mark, junior defender Brian White drove a ball from the left side to McFarlane who finished with a low shot into the NH net to give NA a 1-0 advantage.  The Tigers had another chance less than a minute later but Gapczynski's attempt from 20 yards missed the goal.  NA kept the pressure on and Gapczynski was able to find the net with a left-footed shot to give NA a 2-0 lead with 25:00 minutes remaining.  Later in the half, junior forward Justin Facer sent McFarlane in with a long pass over the North Hills defense.  McFarlane made the Indians pay with his second goal of the contest to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead with 13:48 left in the half.   NA wasted no time in adding to the lead when senior forward Andy Barbin crossed a ball through midfield to senior MF Steve Evankovich.  The Tiger senior then found Gapczynski who beat two NH defenders to extend the NA margin to 4-0 with his second goal of the game with 13:05 on the first-half clock.  Neither team scored in the remaining time, and the Tigers took a commanding 4-0 lead to the intermission.

In the second half, the Tigers continued to pressure the NH goal.  Sophomore Adam Sharpnack had a good chance just six minutes into the half but missed the goal.  Two minutes later, Barbin set up senior forward Ian Payling who was stopped by the Indian GK.  The game turned physical with two NH players and one from NA picking up yellow cards later in the half.  The Tigers continued to get chances and only good play by the NH keeper kept NA off the board.  Payling, junior Ken Nakajima, senior Garland Page, senior Brian Jewell, and sophomore Danny Crawford all had scoring chances that were denied.  The NA defense took care of the rest.  Strong play by senior Nick Severyn, White, and senior Trevor King helped keep the Indians off the board in spite of several NH breakaways.

The win improved the NA section record to 2-1, the overall mark to 3-4-2.  The Tigers will travel to Beaver Area tomorrow morning for an 10:00 am non-section contest.

WPIAL BOYS' SOCCER 2006

The Tigers will compete again in Class AAA along with 33 other teams this season.  The top three teams and ties will enter the WPIAL tournament.  All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by the best section win/lost record.  Ties will be broken by the following method:  three points for a win, one point for a tie.  Minus points for losses will NOT be applied.  Teams that tie for first place will not have the tie broken and both will be declared co-champions and each will receive a section winner's plaque. Those two teams will enter the tournament and the second place team will enter as the third section representative.  In the event of a tie for second or third place, the tie breaker system will be employed.  If a tie persists, head to head competition will determine the qualifier.  In the event of a multiple tie, the following tie breaker will be employed:

1.  Section records of the tied teams will be compiled.
2.  The team that has the best numerical record among the tied teams will be the qualifier.
3.  If the tie cannot clearly be broken, all tied teams will enter the tournament.

Teams that qualify for the tournament should be aware that they may be placed in a preliminary round and may be assigned to play the weekend prior to the first round of the tournament.

Each game will consist of two equal halves of 40 minutes each.  Regular season game overtimes shall be resolved by playing no more than two "sudden victory" overtime periods not to exceed ten minutes each.  If a tie persists at that point, the game is over and is recorded as a tie.  In post-season play, the procedure to determine a game winner will be the state adopted method of the National Federation soccer rules book.

PIAA qualifiers - three teams will qualify for the PIAA championship bracket.  The WPIAL champion, runner-up and the winner of the third place consolation game will advance.

Players and coaches who receive hard red cards and are disqualified from any game by the game official will not be permitted to participate in the next scheduled game played by their team at the same level of competition.  Repeated red card offenders will be subjected to more severe penalties.
