Senior Alexis Smith scored midway through the second half to break a scoreless tie and lead the Lady Tigers to a 1-0 section victory over Butler at Newman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  Junior midfielder Taylor Gapczynski earned the assist on the goal.  Junior GK Rachel Middleman posted the shutout for the winning Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers began to pressure to Butler goal early in the game.  Less than three minutes into the contest, senior Kelly Gilmour sent a pass to senior forward Molly Antimarino but her shot was stopped by Butler defender Katelyn Wahl.  At the 7:00 minute mark, Gapczynski drove a corner kick that junior defender Larissa Steeb headed toward the net but was stopped by Butler GK Taylor Troyan.  In the next four minutes, NA had several scoring opportunities but could not convert.  Smith set up senior midfielder Dawn Murphy who chipped the ball toward the Tornado net but Troyan was there to grab it.  Senior Brienne Schuliger drove a shot toward the Butler goal that was caught by the Tornado keeper.  At 11:26, Troyan had to make a diving stop on a hard shot by Antimarino.  A little over a minute later, a long free kick from Steeb to Gapcynski resulted in an NA free kick that was sent over the net by Gapczynski.  Butler came back with a shot by Chelsey Rock over the NA goal at the 13:38 mark.  Gapczynski answered four minutes later with a shot that went right to the Butler keeper.  For the next six minutes, the NA defense of freshman Calene Dougherty, sophomore Christina Boada and Steeb was able to keep Butler away from the NA net.  With 14:26 left, Steeb drove a long shot from 40 yards away, but Troyan was able to pick it out of the air.  The Lady Tigers threatened beginning at the 29:34 mark when junior forward Kylie Fuller made a great run through the Butler defense before being pulled down just outside the box.  The ensuing free kick by Gapczynski bounced off a Butler player over the goal line giving NA a corner kick.  On the corner, Murphy headed the ball toward the Butler goal.  The Tornado were able to send the rebound down field where a breakaway attempt was stopped by NA junior goalkeeper Rachel Middleman who made a great save to keep the game scoreless.  NA answered on a passing play from Murphy to Fuller to freshman forward Katie Hohmann, but the Tigers were unable to finish.  With 8:35 left, Troyan stopped Murphy's attempt.  With just over five minutes remaining, Gapcznski's corner kick was directed toward the Butler net ,but again the Butler keeper made the stop.  Dougherty followed with a good pass to freshman Carly Brailer but the ball came free.  With 1:30 left, Middleman had to snare a Butler attempt out of the air.  With 20 seconds left, Troyan had to make a sliding save on a shot by Hohmann who had taken a pass from Steeb.  The teams went to the intermission with the game still scoreless.

Early in the second half, Fuller sent a ball in to Murphy, but the NA senior could not convert.  At the 2:00 minute mark, Gapczynski's corner kick was headed toward the Butler goal but was stopped.  less than a minute later, Murphy had a chance but missed the net.  At the 3:36 mark, Boada stopped a Butler run and got the ball to Gapczynski who also missed the goal.  At the 6:14 mark, NA came close as Fuller's attempt hit the crossbar.  Four minutes later, Butler had an opportunity but Middleman was able to make the save.  A little over a minute later, a short free kick by Gapczynski went wide to the right of the Tornado goal.  At the 14:33 mark, the Lady Tigers earned another corner, but Gapczynski's cross was cleared by the Butler defense.  Two minutes later, another cross by Gapczynski intended for Antimarino was just too long.  Smith had an opportunity at the 16:42 mark, but her shot went wide left of the net.  A pass from Smith to Brailer was stopped by the Tornado keeper at the 17:40 mark.  Just past the midway point, the Tornado had a chance but the attempt went wide of the NA goal.  With 17:30 left, Gapczynski sent a through ball to Smith who cleanly beat Troyan for the first goal of the game to give NA a 1-0 advantage.  Another NA shot five minutes later was stopped by the Butler keeper.  With 8:43 left, Middleman had to make a good save to keep the Lady Tigers ahead.  With 5:14 remaining, Smith was pulled down in the box, and NA was awarded a penalty kick.  Gapczynski's hard attempt went right to Troyan who made the save.  With time running out, Coach Chet Gapczynski substituted three players in the front --- freshmen Leah Langhans, Brianna Layman and Hohmann.  Butler had two more attempts in the waning minutes, but Middleman easily made the saves.  With two minutes left, Murphy had another chance but Troyan made the save.  Butler did not threaten again as the Lady Tigers came away with a key 1-0 victory.

The Lady Tigers dominated play in the second half before finally scoring with 17:30 remaining.  The NA defense and Middleman kept Butler from getting many scoring chances as they controlled play.  NA totaled four corner kicks to just one for the Golden Tornado.  For her efforts and for scoring the game winner, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Alexis Smith as the Player of the Game.  With the win, NA moved into second place in Section 2-AAA with a record of 4-2-0 in section with their overall mark improving to 7-2-0 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will travel to North Hills on Monday night to meet the Indians in a 7:30 pm section contest at Martorelli Stadium.

JV UPDATE:  The JV team defeated Butler, 3-0, with goals scored by Maria Snyder, Katie Hohmann and Christine Grom.

SENECA VALLEY STOPS LADY TIGERS, 2-0

The undefeated and #3 ranked Seneca Valley Raiders defeated the Lady Tigers, 2-0, at Seneca Valley on Thursday night.  NA played the Raiders tough defensively allowing single goals in each half.  On the offensive end, the Lady Tigers had chances but could not finish.

The Raiders took control early.  After NA took the opening kickoff into SV territory, the Raiders counter-attacked with Kate Kelly lobbing a ball over the head of NA junior goalkeeper Rachel Middleman into the net to give Seneca a 1-0 lead just 1:02 into the game.  The Lady Tigers had a chance at the 4:58 mark on a passing play that just missed connecting.  Junior defender Larissa Steeb sent senior MF Dawn Murphy up the field where she found senior forward Alexis Smith.  Smith tried to set up junior forward Savanna Kelly, but Raider GK Keara Lydon got to the ball just before Kelly could get off an attempt.  The Raiders had two additional chances in the next two minutes, but the NA defense cleared the ball out of danger.  Over the next fifteen minutes, neither team threatened as the Raiders continued to hold the 1-0 advantage.  With 17:55 left, junior forward Kylie Fuller took the ball down the right side toward the SV goal but could not get off a shot.  Less than a minute later, Kelly had another chance for Seneca, but her attempt went right past NA sophomore defender Christina Boada and Middleman and to the right of the NA net.  With 15:30 remaining in the half, Murphy tried to set up a breaking senior forward Molly Antimarino but the pass was just too far.  With 13:40 left, another Raider attempt went over the net.  Five minutes later, Middleman had to punch out another SV scoring chance.  With 5:15 left, Steeb started another offensive run by sending a long ball to Fuller.  Fuller crossed the ball to freshman forward Katie Hohmann but her shot went over the Raider goal.  With 28 seconds remaining, Middleman had to make another good save to keep the game at 1-0 as the teams went to the intermission.

Early in the second half, the Raiders threatened to extend the lead.  A first attempt hit the crossbar while Middleman had to make the save on the second.  At the 8:10 mark, the Raiders were called for a foul giving NA a direct kick in SV territory.  Junior forward Taylor Gapczynski sent a hard drive toward the net that was headed just right of the SV net by Steeb.  At the 10:56 mark, Murphy sent a through ball to junior Chelsea Henderson , but GK Lydon was able to make the save.  The Raiders countered with a pair of shots and an attempt off a corner kick but could not score.  At the 15:05 mark, Seneca's Shayna Elser hit the crossbar and then put the rebound into the net as the Raiders took a 2-0 advantage.  A minute and a half later, Steeb drove another long ball on a free kick that Lydon had to pull out of the air.  At this point, Coach Chet Gapczynski sent in some substitutions including senior Brienne Schuliger and freshman Emily Johns.  With the two-goal lead, Seneca turned up the pressure with a direct kick, two attempts that went over the NA goal and a corner kick that the Tiger defense cleared.  With 8:51 left, the Raiders had another good chance but shot over the net.  With six minutes left, NA had a chance when Fuller took the ball the length of the field.  Her pass went to Antimarino who then found Murphy open.  Murphy sent a pass to Kelly but she could not get off a good scoring attempt.  The Raiders came back with a corner kick that was cleared again by the NA defense.  With three minutes remaining, Gapczynski sent a short free kick across in front of the SV goal, but again the Lady Tigers could not get off a good shot.  In the last minute, the Raiders had one more attempt, but Middleman made the stop and SV could not covert the rebound.  Seneca Valley was able to hold off the Lady Tigers in the final seconds to garner the 2-0 victory.

It was a tough loss to an experienced Seneca Valley team that fielded seven seniors in the starting lineup.  With the loss, the NA section record dropped to 3-2, the overall mark to 6-2.  The Lady Tigers will be back in action again on Saturday when they host Butler as part of the SoccerFest celebration.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 2:15 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 pm.

JV UPDATE:  The JV won a hard-fought 1-0 game against Seneca Valley with Maria Snyder scoring the only goal of the game.

HOHMANN' LATE GOAL GIVES LADY TIGERS
3-2 VICTORY OVER MARS

Freshman forward Katie Hohmann scored after a pass from junior forward Kylie Fuller with 4:03 remaining to give NA a 3-2 section victory at Mars on Monday night.  First half goals by junior MF Taylor Gapczynski and senior MF Dawn Murphy had given NA a 2-0 advantage before Mars rallied to tie the game.

The Lady Tigers had an early chance in the first half when junior defender Larissa Steeb sending a long shot just over the Mars goal just one minute into the game.  After a cross by senior forward Alexis Smith was stopped by Mars GK Meghan Kelly, NA junior goalkeeper Rachel Middleman had to make a good save on a strong throw in by Mars at the 3:24 mark.  Less than a minute later, the Lady Tigers put together passes from junior Savanna Kelly to senior forward Molly Antimarino that resulted in a  shot by Fuller that was stopped by Kelly.  At the 5:20 mark, Middleman had to make another save to keep the game scoreless.  Less than a minute later, Mars Dana Wonderly came close when she hit the crossbar.  At 11:06, Gapcyznski had a chance but her shot went over the goal.  At the 12:45 mark, Smith was fouled setting a direct kick by Gapczynski.  This time, the NA junior did not miss, sending the ball into the corner of the net to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 advantage.  Five minutes later, Antimarino set up Murphy who drilled it past the Mars GK to give NA a 2-0 lead at the 17:10 mark.  A little over a minute later, the Lady Tigers almost scored again when Kelly missed a direct kick from Steeb and junior Chelsea Henderson sent it over the net.  With 16:55 left, Mars' Brueckner had a chance but shot wide.  Mars had a free kick twenty seconds later but drove the ball over the end line.  The Lady Tigers had a good opportunity a minute later after a Middleman save.  Murphy took the rebound between two players and sent Henderson down the right side.  A cross to Smith was stopped by the Mars keeper.  With 13:40 left, a skirmish near the NA goal resulted in a direct kick that was converted by Dana Wonderly as the Planets cut the Tiger lead to 2-1.  A minute later, Smith almost answered after taking a pass from Fuller, but her shot went just left of the net.  In the last ten minutes of the half, Mars had three chances to equalize, but the NA defense of freshman Calene Dougherty, sophomore Christina Boada and Steeb was able to clear the ball in time.  The Lady Tigers took a 2-1 advantage to the intermission.

Mars turned up the physical play in the second half as NA was awarded a number of free kicks.  At the 3:00 mark, Fuller sent a shot that went wide right of the goal.  In the next several minutes, Steeb had a pair of free kicks deep into the Mars third, but the Planet keeper and defense were able to clear the attempts.  At the 11:15 mark, Steeb sent another long ball deep in the box that was cleared over the goal line by the Mars keeper resulting in a corner kick by NA.  Fuller's attempt off the corner went right to Kelly who made the save.  At the 15:30 mark, Mars' Sarah Heckman sent a shot in that was punched out by Middleman but resulted in a Mars corner kick that hit the top of the NA net.  Two minutes later, Steeb once again drove a long direct kick that almost bounced over Kelly's head into the goal.  Just past the midway point, Mars almost tied the game but sent a shot wide left of the net.  With 17:45 left, Antimarino took a pass from Hohmann who also shot wide of the goal.  The Lady Tigers then had two great chances.  With 16:39 remaining, Fuller hit the crossbar.  Less than a minute later, Murphy passed to Hohmann who also bounced the ball off the Mars' crossbar.  With 15:10 left, Kelly had to make a good save on Fuller as NA kept the pressure on the Mars defense.  Less than three minutes later, however, it was the Planets who were able to find the net.  Alana Haefner tied the game at 2-2 with a shot that just got over the head of Middleman into the NA goal with 12:18 remaining in the second half.  Less than two minutes later, Hohmann picked up a long ball sent in by Steeb but her shot went just over the goal.  Hohmann had another chance seconds later, but her header was stopped by Kelly.  In the next two minutes, Steeb sent another pair of direct kicks toward the Mars' goal, but Kelly was able to come out to make the stops.  With 4:03 remaining, the Lady Tiger passing game paid off in the game winner.  A give-and-go between Gapczynski and Antimarino resulted in a pass to an open Fuller.  The NA junior was then able to set up Hohmann who scored to give the Lady Tigers a 3-2 advantage.  Mars had one last chance, but Middleman made a diving save with 4:38 left to preserve the one goal victory.  The Lady Tigers came home with the 3-2 decision.

It was a good road win for the Lady Tigers.  Despite a physical Mars team that was called for seventeen fouls throughout the course of the game.  With the win, NA improved to 3-1 in section play, 6-1 overall.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Seneca Valley on Wednesday night for a key section matchup.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

JV UPDATE:  Leah Langhans scored late in the game and GK Leanna Noel preserved the win with a huge save with less than three minutes remaining as NA defeated Mars, 1-0.

The Lady Tigers reserves started the second half.  At the 3:40 mark, NA was unable to take advantage of a lapse by the Center keeper who lost the ball in front of the net.  The Trojan defense finally was able to clear the ball.  At the 5:45 mark, Schuliger's long shot just missed the Center net.  In the next two minutes, freshman Annie Erickson was able to send two corner kicks in front of the goal, but both were cleared by the Trojans.  After neither team mounted a scoring threat over the next five minutes, Coach Gapczynski sent his starters back into the game.  Two minutes after Center had a chance on a direct kick at the 19:55 mark that Middleman caught, Taylor Gapczynski set up a corner kick.  Gapczynski put the ball high in front of the goal where junior defender Larissa Steeb headed it to Murphy was headed it into the net for the game's first goal.  Five minutes later, Antimarino raced down the right side and got off a good cross into the box, but the Center defense was there to clear the ball.  Less than a minute later, Steeb sent a long ball to Smith who got off a shot that went left of the goal.  At the 28:49 mark, Fuller broke in toward the goal but was stopped by the Center keeper who came out and collided with the junior forward.  The Lady Tigers struck again with 9:11 remaining when Murphy was able to score her second goal on a corner kick from Gapczynski.  NA held a 2-0 lead with less than ten minutes remaining.  Smith had another chance with 8:48 left, but her shot went right to the keeper.  The Lady Tigers almost converted another corner with 6:55 left.  Gapczynski sent another ball hight into the middle of the field where Steeb headed it just over the goal.  With 5:10 remaining in the game, Center had a corner kick cleared by the NA defense.   Middleman had to make another good save with 1:20 left to keep the Trojans scoreless.  With a minute left, NA came close when a cross by Smith went to Antimarino, then to Murphy and finally to Fuller but Center cleared the ball before a shot could be taken.  With 28 seconds left, Schuliger gave the ball to Fuller at midfield and the Lady Tigers' leading goal scorer put away her seventh of the season to cap a 3-0 NA victory.

With the win, NA improved their overall record to 5-1 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will resume play on Monday night when they travel to Mars for a 7:00 pm section contest.

LADY TIGERS DOMINATE KNOCH IN 5-0 VICTORY

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Lady Tigers took control early and never looked back as they defeated Knoch, 5-0, in a section contest at Newman Stadium on Wednesday night.  Five different players scored as NA took control of the game with a 2-0 lead at halftime.  Senior forward Alexis Smith recorded a goal and an assist as did junior forward Kylie Fuller to pace NA.

Knoch came out ready to play and had an early territorial advantage.  Audrey Scott sent a long attempt toward the goal at the 3:58 mark that NA junior goalkeeper Rachel Middleman stopped easily.  The Lady Tigers answered when Fuller sent a ball into the box the Smith drilled into the left side of the net to give NA a 1-0 advantage just 6:06 into the game.  After the goal, the Lady Tigers began to take control.  After a long attempt by Jillian Vogus from 35 yards away was stopped by Middleman, senior Brienne Schuliger sent a hard attempt from the 18 that Knoch GK Elizabeth Hallahan bobbled and then covered at the 12:36 mark.  Fuller followed with a strong shot that went right again from 18 yards out.  Two minutes later, junior MF Taylor Gapczynski sent a nice through ball that was just too far for a breaking senior forward Molly Antimarino.  Junior defender Larissa Steeb drilled a one-hopper off a direct kick that Hallahan had trouble stopping at the 18:50 mark.  NA continued to pressure the Knoch goal with Fuller getting a great chance with 17:30 left.  After a long run, Fuller's shot from right in front of the Knoch goal hit the football crossbar just over the net as NA maintained the one-goal advantage.  The Lady Tigers continued to control the ball in the Knoch third over the next ten minutes but did not have any good scoring chances.  With 8:50 left, the Lady Tigers sent a corner kick from Gapczynski just over the Knoch net.  A minute later, Smith drove a shot from the right side that Hallahan had to catch in the air.  Two minutes later, Gapczynski sent a cross in the box that just missed Antimarino.  With 2:04 remaining , Hallahan made a diving stop on Fuller's cross stopping another good NA opportunity.  Finally, with time running out, NA converted on a corner.  Gapczynski sent a high ball into the box that Fuller drilled into the corner of the net after the ball took several bounces.  With the goal, NA took a 2-0 advantage to the intermission.

Early in the second half, senior MF Kelly Gilmour had the first scoring chance but her long drive from 28 yards away was stopped by the Knoch keeper.  Seven minutes later, Gilmour had another opportunity from nearly the same spot of the field, but Hannahan was there again to make the save.  In the ninth minute, Fuller got past the Knoch defender on the right side.  On her way to the goal, Fuller was pulled down in the box giving NA a penalty kick.  Gapczynski made no mistake on the attempt driving the ball into the left corner of the net as the the Lady Tiger lead went to 3-0.  The goal seemed to demoralize the Knoch squad as NA continued to control play in the Knights' defensive end.  At the 11:20 mark, Fuller set up Gilmour at the 18 but her attempt went over the goal.  Less than two minutes later, Antimarino dropped off a good pass to Gilmour at the 18, and this time the NA senior midfielder found the net to give the Tigers a commanding 4-0 advantage.  At the 14:20 mark, Steeb dribbled through the Knight defense all the way to the goal before losing the ball at the last second before she could get off a good shot.  Senior MF Dawn Murphy picked off the Knoch clearing pass and just missed as she hit the football goalpost to the right.  NA continued to dominate earning a pair of corner kicks.  With 24:30 remaining, Steeb headed a corner just over the net as it remained a 4-0 NA lead.  With 17:30 left, freshman Calene Dougherty had a chance on a rebound but sent it just wide.  With the big lead, NA Head Coach Chet Gapczynski continued to send in bench players.  Freshman Emily Johns took advantage of the playing time by converting on a cross from Smith with 13:28 left to increase the Tiger margin to 5-0.  Knoch was able to get a pair of scoring chances late but could not finish.  With 9:09 left, Vogus sent a shot wide of the net from 20 yards away.  Sarah Scott had the final opportunity but her attempt from 10 yards out went high and wide to the left.  Neither team could score in the remaining time as the Lady Tigers went on to the convincing 5-0 victory.

It was a good team effort by the Lady Tigers after the tough loss to Pine-Richland on Monday night.  NA got good play from a number of players in the win.  For her efforts, particularly defensively at midfield and for scoring her first goal of the season, the North Allegheny Sports Network named senior Kelly Gilmour as the Player of the Game.  Statistically, NA dominated earning seven corner kicks to just one for the Knights.

With the win, the Lady Tigers improved their section record to 2-1, the overall mark to 4-1.  NA will host Center on Saturday in a non-section game at Newman Stadium.  Game time has been changed to 5:00 pm.

JV UPDATE:  The JV team also defeated Knoch by a 5-0 score.

SECOND HALF GOALS GIVE PINE-RICHLAND 2-1 VICTORY

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Two second-half goals by Pine-Richland senior Katie Wise gave the Rams a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Lady Tigers at Newman Stadium on Monday night.  Senior MF Dawn Murphy had given NA a 1-0 lead early with a goal in the sixth minute of the game.

The Lady Tigers came out strong early earning a corner kick just 1:40 into the contest.  Junior defender Larissa Steeb headed the corner just over the Pine-Richland net.  The early pressure paid off minutes later as NA took the lead.  Junior MF Taylor Gapczynski made a nice run over midfield and sent a long ball down the right side.  Senior MF Molly Antimarino tracked it down in the corner and drove a cross into the box.  Murphy was able to lift the ball over a diving P-R keeper Christie Kimball to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 advantage at the 5:36 mark.  A minute later, junior forward Kylie Fuller had a chance from long range, but Kimball was able to make the save.  At the 28:33 mark, Sarah Lusby of the Rams sent a long drive off a direct kick that went high over the NA goal.  Less than a minute later, NA junior GK Rachel Middleman was forced to make a diving save on Ram Stacey Weismann who had made a nice run down the left side.  With 25:44 remaining in the half, NA senior forward Lex Smith had a chance from the 18 that Kimball had to make a difficult save on after the ball was deflected by the Ram defense.  Pine-Richland then began to control play and had several scoring chances.  Lusby's long attempt off a direct kick was cleared by the NA defense led by Steeb, junior Margaret Nikituk, and sophomore Christina Boada.  Another long ball into the box was headed wide by Wise at the midway point of the half.  Murphy came back for the Tigers to send a ball along the goal line that Kimball was forced to play with 17:37 left.  On a P-R corner kick two minutes later, Wise again headed the ball wide.  The Rams' Tori Pikur and Antimarino exchanged opportunities in the next several minutes but neither could score.  With 9:33 left, Gapczynski sent a long ball into the box that Kimball had to catch.  NA had a chance to increase the lead with 8:57 left , but Fuller's drive went over the net bouncing off the football crossbar.  With 5:20 remaining, Weismann and Mallory Miller completed a nice two-player play but could not get off a good shot.  Over the final five minutes, neither team had a good scoring chance and the teams went to the intermission with the Lady Tigers holding a 1-0 advantage.

Early in the second half, the Lady Tigers controlled play but could not score.  Murphy had a chance from the 18 in the first minute but her attempt was stopped by Kimball.  The defenses dominated over the first fifteen minutes of the half with neither team able to put together good scoring opportunities.  With 23:28 left, Wise made the play of the game when she stole the ball deep in the NA zone and beat Middleman from the left side to tie the game at 1-1.  With 22:31 remaining, Murphy got open in the box but could not get a shot off.  With 17:47 left, Fuller was able to steal the ball but her attempt to put NA back on top went over the goal. The Rams then went on offense with forward Lindsay Thill sending a shot wide from right in front of the Tiger goal.  Less than two minutes later, Lusby sent up Lauren Deasy, but her shot from the 18 also went over the goal.  Middleman was forced to make a diving shot of an attempt by Lusby on a direct kick from 25 yards away with 11:46 remaining.  NA had a chance two minutes later but Murphy shot wide right of the Ram net.  Thirty seconds later, the Lady Tigers sent another ball in the box, but Kimball was able to grab the bouncing ball before the Tigers could get off a good shot.  In the next minute, Middleman kept the game tied with two outstanding saves on Weismann.  With 6:26 left, Middleman had to make another good save, this time on a shot by Wise.  The Rams got the go ahead and eventual winning goal on another outstanding play by Wise.  The Ram senior raced across the box from left to right and was able to lift a cross over Middleman with just 5:26 remaining to put P-R on top for good at 2-1.  NA had several chances at the equalizer in the last minutes of play.  Fuller's attempt with 5:11 left went right to Kimball.  With 1:15 remaining, NA earned a corner kick.  Murphy was unable to get off a good shot in the box and the Rams were able to clear the ball.  Time ran out on the Lady Tigers as Pine-Richland took a hard earned 2-1 victory.

It was a good effort by the Lady Tigers who played the #2 ranked Rams even or better for most of the game.  In the end, it was the effort of an outstanding player who secured the win for P-R.  For her efforts, both offensively and defensively, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Dawn Murphy as the Player of the Game.

With the loss, the NA section record fell to 1-1, the overall record to 3-1.  The Lady Tigers will host Knoch on Wednesday night as section play continues.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

JV UPDATE:  The JV team took a 3-1 victory over Pine-Richland.

MURPHY'S GOAL HOLDS UP AS LADY TIGERS EDGE
SHALER, 1-0, IN SECTION OPENER

Senior Dawn Murphy scored in the ninth minute and the NA defense, along with junior GK Rachel Middleman, held off Shaler for the remainder of the game as the Lady Tigers downed the Titans, 1-0, in the section opener at Shaler on Thursday night.  The Titans threatened in the final minutes but NA held on for the victory.

Early in the game, the Lady Tigers had a chance when senior Alexis Smith sent a cross just past a breaking junior Savanna Kelly  4:40 into the contest.  At the 5:48 mark, Middleman had to punch out a corner that was cleared by the NA defense.  At the 8:05 mark, Smith sent the ball down the side to the corner to senior Molly Antimarino who then crossed it to Murphy for the goal that gave NA a 1-0 advantage.  Shaler came back with a chance less than a minute later but the ball landed on the outside of the Tiger net.  The Titans had an opportunity off a corner at the 12:50 mark, but once again it was cleared by the NA defense.  Five minutes later, Antimarino sent a cross into the box from the deep corner, but the Shaler keeper was able to pull the ball out of the air.  At the 18:55 mark, junior Kylie Fuller had another chance that was stopped by the Titan keeper.  Less than a minute later, junior Taylor Gapczynski sent a corner kick into the box but again it was cleared.  Near the midway point of the half, Murphy drove a hard shot that was stopped.  In the next four minutes, both teams had corner kicks that were not converted.  With 13:42 remaining, Shaler earned yet another corner but the NA defense was there to clear the ball.  With 8:17 left on the first half clock, the Titans mustered a strong attack, but their shot went just wide of the NA net.  With 4:26 left, Middleman had to make a great save to preserve the one goal advantage.  With just 1:25 remaining, junior Larissa Steeb sent Murphy into the attacking zone when she set up Fuller, but her shot hit the top post.  Thanks to good defense by Steeb, sophomore Christina Boada and junior Margaret Nikituk, the Lady Tigers were able to keep Shaler off the board as they took a 1-0 lead to the intermission.

Shaler came out physical early in the second half and were called for a pair of fouls that led to NA scoring opportunities.  Steeb and Gapczynski set balls toward the Titan net, but the Shaler defense was able to stymie the Tiger attack.  Middleman had to make another good save at the five minute mark to keep Shaler at bay.  In the ninth minute, it appeared that NA had scored off a corner kick by Gapczynski, but the referees ruled that the ball had not crossed the goal line into the net.  Junior Chelsea Henderson came off the NA bench to make some strong run along the left sideline.  Just past the midway point of the half, Middleman came up big again with a tough save to preserve the 1-0 lead.  The NA midfield and defenders continued to set up Antimarino along the right side to try to create offense.  With 10:04 left, Fuller missed just wide of the Shaler net.  With 5:15 remaining, Fuller sent a cross to sophomore Maria Snyder who sent a shot just over the Shaler net.  With five minutes left, freshmen Katie Hohmann, Brianna Layman and Calene Dougherty all entered the game for the Lady Tigers.  With 4:24 left, Hohmann had  chance but was stopped by the Shaler GK.  One minute later, Layman sent a shot just over the goal.  With the one goal, the NA defense was able to keep some last minute Shaler chances off the board as the Lady Tigers went on to the 1-0 victory.

With the win, NA moved their section record to 1-0, the overall mark to 3-0 in the early season.  The Lady Tigers will host Pine-Richland on Monday night at Newman Stadium as section play continues.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

JV UPDATE:  The JV team controlled play for most of the game on their way to a 4-0 victory over Shaler.  Goals were scored by Katie Hohmann (2), Calene Dougherty, and Christine Grom.

LADY TIGERS DOMINATE WOODLAND HILLS, 9-0

Seven different players scored goals as NA controlled play against Woodland Hills on Saturday morning in a 9-0 shutout of the Wolverines.  Seniors Alexis Smith and Molly Antimarino had a pair of goals each as NA built a 5-0 halftime lead and coasted as Coach Chet Gapczynski used his bench liberally throughout the contest.

Once again, the Lady Tigers came out ready to play as they scored just two minutes into the game.  Smith passed to senior Dawn Murphy who put the ball past the Woodland Hills keeper into the net to give NA a 1-0 lead.  After junior Kylie Fuller just missed, junior Larissa Steeb sent a ball up the middle where Smith took the pass and raced passed the WH defense and scored from 20 yards out to make it a 2-0 game.  In the 12th minute, junior Savanna Kelly set up Smith but her shot was stopped by the Woodland Hills keeper.  In the 17th minute, Fuller scored her team leading fifth goal on an assist from Smith as NA took a 3-0 advantage.   Three minutes later, Antimarino recorded her first goal after taking a pass from Fuller as the lead went to 4-0.  After a water break, Coach Gapczynski sent in the JV team to replace the varsity.  In the 30th minute, freshman Katie Hohmann passed sophomore Maria Snyder who tapped it in from in front of the net to increase the NA lead to 5-0.  Five minutes later, freshman Brianna Layman just missed the net after taking a pass from Hohmann.  In the 37th minute, a shot by Snyder went right to the keeper.  The teams went to the intermission with the Lady Tigers holding a commanding 5-0 advantage.

In the second half, NA rotated the lineup allowing players to play different positions.  All three NA goalkeepers were field players as junior Taylor Gapczynski stepped into the net.  In the fifth minute, freshman Alison Krause crossed a header to freshman Annie Erickson who just missed the goal.  In the tenth minute, freshman Carolyn Binnig sent a shot just wide.  In the 15th minute, senior Ava Makal sent a ball over the net after taking a pass from Krause.  Two minutes later, junior Rachel Middleman scored after receiving a pass from Makal as the score went to 6-0.  After a water break in the 20th minute, the varsity returned with Leanna Noel in goal.  In the next two minutes, shots by Smith and Fuller were stopped by the WH keeper.  In the 23rd minute, Kelly had a chance but missed the net.  Two minutes later, Gapczynski's attempt was pulled out of the air by the keeper.  In the 27th minute, Antimarino sent a shot wide of the net, but got another chance just seconds later and scored on a cross from Smith giving NA a 7-0 lead.  One minute later, Fuller's attempt was caught by the Woody High goalkeeper.  In the 30th minute, Gapczynski took the ball at midfield and raced in to blast a shot in the corner of the net to increase the advantage to 8-0.  In the 33rd minute, Antimarino's attempt went over the goal.  Smith put the finishing touches on the victory with a goal on a pass from senior Kelly Gilmour.  A minute later after a foul on WH at midfield, Steeb drove a long ball into the box that the keeper was able to stop after a bounce.  Fuller had a final shot that was stopped by the keeper as the Lady Tigers prevailed, 9-0.

Coach Gapczynski was able to use the opportunity against an overmatched opponent to allow his team to work on skills and drills in a game situation.  The entire team contributed to the victory as they prepared for the upcoming section schedule.  With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 2-0 in non-section games in the early season.  NA will open section play of Thursday night when they travel to Shaler.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

FULLER SCORES FOUR TO LEAD LADY TIGERS
OVER KISKI AREA, 7-1

Junior Kylie Fuller tallied four goals to lead the Lady Tigers to an impressive 7-1 victory at Kiski Area on Friday afternoon.  Senior Alexis Smith, junior Taylor Gapczynski, and senior Mollie Antimarino also scored for NA in the season opener.  The game was stopped early because of an injury to sophomore Nicole Goldstein who was taken from the field in an ambulance.  We do not have any specific information about the injury.

The Lady Tigers came out with a strong attack backed up by a tough defense in the season opener.  Smith got NA on the board first in the seventh minute when she trapped a long pass from junior Larissa Steeb and scored to make it a 1-0 NA lead.  Fuller had a good chance in the 13th minute when she took a pass from senior Dawn Murphy, but her attempt was stopped by the Kiski keeper.  In the 17th minute, Smith made a great run and was pulled down in the box.  Gapczynski converted the penalty kick to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 advantage.  In the 19th minute, NA threatened again when Steeb got a breakaway attempt that was stopped by the keeper with the Lady Tigers getting a corner kick which they failed to convert.  In the 25th minute, Antimarino sent a cross into the box but the keeper was there to make the stop.  A minute later, Fuller scored her first goal of the game on a cross from Smith as NA extended the margin to 3-0.  Kiski tried to come back, but junior GK Rachel Middleman made a great save on a shot from her right side to keep the three-goal advantage.  After Smith had two more chances that were stopped by the Kiski keeper, the Cavaliers got on the board just before halftime when they scored on a cross.  A last second attempt by NA went over the net, but the Lady Tigers took a 3-1 lead to the intermission.

Early in the second half, the Lady Tigers took control of the contest, scoring four goals in the first ten minutes.  After Fuller shot wide after a pass from Steeb in the second minute, the NA junior found the net after taking a pass from sophomore defender Christina Boada to give NA a commanding 4-1 lead.  In the fifth minute, Antimarino scored after a great pass from Murphy as the lead went to 5-1.  Fuller then stole the ball from a Kiski defender and raced past the Cavalier defenders to score her third of the game to make it a 6-1 NA advantage.  In the 10th minute, it was Fuller again converting on a throw in by Antimarino as the Tigers pushed the margin to 7-1.  At this point, NA Head Coach Chet Gapczynski began to substitute liberally.  Middleman had to come up big over the next four minutes as she had to make three saves.  In the 17th minute, senior Kelly Gilmour sent a headed to Smith who shot just wide of the goal.  Smith came close again a minute later as her shot was barely stopped by the Kiski keeper.  In the 21st minute, Goldstein collided with the Kiski keeper and went down in front of the goal.  The second half was stopped because of the serious injury as Goldstein was taken from the field by ambulance.  We will update her injury status as soon as we get the information.

With the win, the Lady Tigers opened the new season with a strong victory scoring seven goals in just 61 minutes.  NA will travel to Woodland Hills this morning to meet the Wolverines in a 10:00 am non-section contest.

JV UPDATE:  The JV posted another impressive NA victory with a 7-0 win in a game played with a shortened first half.  Katie Homan scored twice with Brianna Layman, Annie Erickson, Maria Snyder, Emily Johns, and Carly Brailer all tallying goals for NA.
