After trailing for the entire game, the Tigers rallied behind senior guard Ted Connolly to tie the game, 61-61, at the end of regulation time.  NA outscored the Knights, 9-2, in the extra period to win their 12th game in 13 starts with a 70-63 victory at the Senior High gym on Wednesday night.  Connolly led NA with 22 points while senior Steve Kirsch added 17, junior Stephane Batton 12, and senior Jeff Finke 11.

The Knights started quickly jumping off to a 5-0 lead behind a score by Nick Dorazio and a three by Steve Rehovcik.  After Batton scored, Tyler Urban answered from down low to make it 7-2 just 1:35 into the game.  Junior Jeff Haus cut the margin to three, but Dorazio came back with his second hoop of the game to make it a 9-4 game.  Connolly drove for a basket but Rehovcik added a deuce and  Adam Dominick scored on a put back to push the margin to 13-6.  Dorazio scored again and Alex Dennison came off the Norwin bench to score and increase the margin to 17-6.  After Finke drained a trey, Rehovcik hit consecutive triples to increase the margin to 23-9 with 1:36 left in the quarter.  After Connolly drove for a hoop, Kirsch drove the lane and score as time ran out in the quarter.  Norwin took a 23-13 lead into the second period.

The fast pace continued in the second quarter with both teams running the floor.  NA scored the first six points of the quarter with Connolly and junior Nick Dvorsky hitting deuces while Kirsch dropped in a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 23-19 with 5:24 remaining in the half.  After Dennison scored, Finke made one of two from the line.  A basket by Dominick and a foul shot by Dennison pushed the margin to 28-20 before Connolly hit one of two from the stripe.  Dominick answered with a field goal and foul shot to push the lead to ten at 31-21 with 3:48 left in the half.  Haus then stole the ball on consecutive plays, scoring a layup and making two foul shots to cut the lead to 31-25.  After Dorazio came back to score, Finke drained a triple to make it 33-28 with 1:35 remaining.  Senior Mike Shanahan followed with his first basket of the game to push it to 35-28, but Connolly drove and scored to cut the lead to five.  After Shanahan dropped in a foul shot, Batton scored with just three seconds left to cut the Norwin lead to 36-32 at the intermission.

In the third quarter, the pace did not slow but the scoring did.  After Batton cut the lead to two, Connolly drove and tied the game at 36-36 just 1:05 into the period.  Shanahan regained the lead for the Knights but Kirsch tied the game at 38-38 with a drive to the hoop.  Urban came alive under the basket and scored two quick field goals to push Norwin ahead, 42-38.  Kirsch scored again on a drive, but Urban dropped in his third basket of the quarter to make it a 44-40 game.  After Kirsch hit two from the stripe, Shanahan came back with one of two foul shots as Norwin held a 45-42 lead with 1:26 remaining.  After Dominick scored again for the Knights, Connolly hit on one of two from the line as Norwin took a 47-43 advantage into the final quarter.

Norwin scored the first five points of the final quarter to take a 52-43 lead behind a foul shot by Urban and baskets by Shanahan and Rehovcik.  After an NA time out, the Tigers regrouped with Kirsch driving for a hoop.  Urban came back with a short jumper, but Connolly hit a trey to cut the lead to 54-50 with 3:54 left in the period.  Urban came back to score again, but Kirsch hit a pair from the line and Finke scored to cut the lead to 56-54 with 2:08 on the fourth quarter clock.  Urban pushed the lead to four, but Batton dropped in four straight foul shots to tie the game at 58-58 with 55.7 left.  Norwin answered with a triple by Rehovcik from the left side to take a 61-58 advantage with 32 seconds remaining.  After another NA time out, Connolly drove and scored and added the foul shot to tie the game at 61-61 with 17.6 left.  After a Norwin time out, Shanahan's attempt at the game winner was partially blocked by the Tigers with a second attempt going wide as time ran out in regulation.  The teams went to overtime with the game tied at 61-61.

Connolly gave the Tigers the lead at 63-61 on yet another drive to the basket.  After Urban hit one of two from the line, Connolly scored again to push the lead to 65-62 with 2:12 left in the OT.  Urban again made one of two from the stripe, but Kirsch came back with two foul shots to extend the margin to 67-63 with 1:04 remaining.  Another foul shot by Kirsch made it 68-63 with 41.9 left.  After Norwin was unable to score, two more foul shots by Batton in the remaining seconds made the final score, 70-63, as the Tigers completeled the comeback for the victory.

Statistically, the Tigers hit on 23 of 69 from the floor (33.3%), but only 3 of 21 (14.3%) from behind the arc.  From the foul line, NA was 21 of 30 (70.0%).  Norwin made 26 of 76 (34.2%) from the field but only 4 of 16 (25.0%) from three-point range.  The Knights converted on only 7 of 20 from the foul line for a 35.0%.  NA scored 19 points off 19 Norwin turnovers.  A key factor in the game was bench scoring as NA outscored the Knights, 25-5.  For his efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ted Connolly as the Player of the Game.

It was a good effort by both teams in a fast-paced game.  After a slow start, the shooting picked up with the Tigers finishing with 21 for 59 (35.6%) for the game.  NA was 5 for 19 beyond the arc.  At the foul line, the Tigers converted on 9 of 31 (61.3%).  Seneca Valley shot 23 of 59 from the field for a 39.0% with six for 22 from three-point land.  The Raiders were 19 of 30 from the line (63.3%).  The Tigers pressing defense forced 17 turnovers that the Tigers turned into 17 points.  In the paint, NA scored 34 points to 20 for SV.  There were thirteen lead changes in the game, but down the stretch the Tigers were able to take control.  For his efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ted Connolly as the Player of the Game.
