To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Junior attack Michael Eck scored with less than a second remaining to give the Tigers an exciting 15-14 victory over previously unbeaten Butler at Newman Stadium on Friday night.  Junior attack Ryan Worsena led NA with five goals and three assists with Eck adding four goals and Dan Wiese three for the winning Tigers.  Butler had tied the score with 15 seconds left in the game.

Butler started quickly at the thirty second mark with Tyler Kotch scoring after a long run down the middle of the field.  Wiese answered after taking a pass from Eck to tie the game just 1:28 into the contest.  Cody Conklin put the Tornado ahead, 2-1, with a goal from 12 yards away.  Once again the Tigers came back to tie the score as senior David Lancia scored from in front of the goal off a pass from sophomore Jared Yon.  Kotch came back with 5:28 remaining in the quarter to score his second goal on a bounce shot from 15 yards out.  Again, the Tigers responded with Wiese scoring from in front of the net after taking a pass from Worsena with 4:38 left.  Kotch notched his third of the game with Cole Harvey assisting as the Tornado took a 4-3 lead after one quarter.

Kotch needed only 16 seconds to give Butler a two-goal lead as he converted from long range.  Conklin made it a 6-3 game when he knocked the ball away from junior goalie Anthony Ferraro and into the goal.  Ferraro got the start with NA starting goalie Dan Williamson out with illness.   After an NA time out, the Tigers scored three goals in 2:32 to tie the game.  Senior John Maus bounced one in from 15 yards away to cut the margin to 6-4.  Worsena followed with his first goal on an assist from senior Dane Bralich to make it a 6-5 game.  Eck tied the game on a pass from Worsena with 4:42 remaining in the half.  The Tornado came back to take the lead on a tally by Zach Harrison with just 1:19 remaining.  Butler took a 7-6 advantage to the intermission.

In the third quarter, Kotch struck again at the beginning of a period needing 30 seconds to score after he won the face off, raced down the left side and cut across the middle to score and make it 8-6.  Once again, the Tigers rallied to tie the game.  Eck scored his second from 12  yards out on the left side just a minute later.  Wiese completed the hat trick with his third of the game on a feed from Bralich with 8:53 left in the quarter to tie the game at 8-8.  Kotch continued to baffle the Tiger defense as he sent home his sixth of the game with 6:47 left to put the Tornado back ahead by one.   Three minutes later, Cody Bachman scored on an assist from Harrison to extend the margin to 10-8.  NA continued to battle back, however, and tied the game again before the end of the period.  Worsena got his second with Bralich assisting with 3:01 remaining.   With just 35.5 on the third quarter clock, Yon scored off a Worsena assist to tie the game at 10-10.  The teams went to the final stanza even.

Once again, Butler scored first in a quarter but this time it was Cole Harvey with a long attempt that hit the net to give the Tornado an 11-10 lead at the 3:08 mark of the period.  Just nine seconds later, Worsena came back with his third of the game to tie the score at 11-11.  Senior Alex Mesoras won the face off cleanly, raced down field, and fed Worsena in front of the net for the equalizer.  Eck gave NA their first lead of the game with his third goal with Worsena picking up another assist as the Tigers took a 12-11 lead with 7:38 remaining in the game.  Worsena made a great move coming out from behind the net to beat Butler goalie Alex Hill and extend the lead to 13-11 with 6:51 left.  After a Butler time out, the Tornado rallied to tie the game once again.  Conklin's third from in front of the game and Kotch's seventh on a man-up advantage brought Butler even at 13-13 with 4:28 left.  One minute later, Worsena tallied his fifth of the game on an assist from Bralich to put NA back on top, 14-13.  After a Butler time out with 25.8 remaining, Kotch tied the game again at 14-14 with just 15.5 left.  On the ensuing face off, Mesoras again won the draw and sent a pass to Maus who raced down the left sideline.  The Tiger senior found Eck open in front of the goal and he converted with just .5 left on the clock.  Eck's fourth goal was the difference as time ran out on the Tornado with NA taking the 15-14 victory.

The Tigers had the edge statistically as well outshooting the Tornado, 41-34.  NA had a large edge in ground balls, 25-12, and forced errors, 20-11.  Senior Alex Mesoras won the face off battle winning 23 of 33 including a majority of wins in the fourth quarter.  NA was 1 of three in man up situations and allowed Butler one in two chances.  For his efforts on the offensive end, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ryan Worsena as the Player of the Game.

With the win, the NA overall record improved to 3-3 on the season.  The Tigers will travel to central Pennsylvania this afternoon to meet District 3 Hempfield.  Tomorrow morning, NA will face Archbishop Wood in Philadelphia with the starting time set for 11:00 am.
