RAM RALLY KNOCKS TIGERS FROM STATE PLAYOFFS, 9-5

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Tigers built a 5-1 lead after two innings, but the Pine-Richland Rams rallied to defeat the Tigers, 9-5, in the PIAA Quad A quarterfinals at the Burkett Complex on Thursday night.  Senior RF Mike Cammarata drove in four runs on a pair of hits to pace NA while senior 2B Eric Harbison added two hits and senior 3B Justin Brozick a double for the Tigers.

After junior RHP Tanner Wilt stranded a Ram runner at third in the top of the first, the Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the the inning.  With one out, junior catcher Cody Gaertner singled to center field.  With senior Patrick Bradley in as a courtesy runner, junior DH Nick Sell walked.  After a ground out that moved both runners up a base, Cammarata lined a base hit into right center field to score two runs and give NA a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.

With one out in the top of the second, Ram catcher Russell Clark homered over the right center field fence to cut the lead to 2-1.  The Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning with three more runs.  With one out, senior CF Zach Jergan singled and stole second.  After Harbison drew a walk, Gaertner hit a slow ground ball toward second that was bobbled as NA loaded the bases.  Sell followed with a ground ball to short with the Rams getting a force out at second as Jergan scored to make it a 3-1 game.  After senior 1B Mark Jackson walked to load the bases again, Cammarata sent another line drive into right center field that scored two more runners to give the Tigers a 5-1 advantage after two innings.

The Rams did not wait long to come back.  In the top of the third, Ryan Hanahan singled to right field to lead off.  Bryan Watt followed with a single to center field.  P-R shortstop Matt Berezo then hit a long triple off the center field fence that scored both runners and cut the NA lead to 5-3.  Ram pitcher Steve Laylock followed with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Berezo.  After a strike out, Ron Peirish drove another long home run over the right center field fence to tie the game at 5-5 after two and one half innings.

In the bottom of the third, Brozick led off with a double down the right field line.  After a strike out, a wild pitch moved Brozick to third.  NA coach Andy Maddix then tried a squeeze play to regain the lead, but Jergan's bunt was fielded cleanly by Laylock who threw home to get Brozick for the second out.  Harbison followed with a base hit to center field, but Laylock got a ground out to first to end the inning.

Neither team could score in the fourth, but the Rams took the lead in the top of the fifth.  After Berezo led off with a walk, Laylock singled to left field.  A sacrifice bunt by Zac LaNeve moved both runners up a base.  Peirish then drilled a triple into the right center field gap to score a pair of runs and give Pine-Richland a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.  Laylock got the side in order for the second straight inning on his way to retiring 13 of the final 14 batters he faced.  After Wilt got the Rams in order in the top of the sixth, the P-R defense took over in the bottom of the inning.  Berezo went behind second to rob Jergan of base hit to lead off the inning.  After Harbison singled to center field, Watt made an outstanding catch of a long drive by Gaertner grabbing the ball with his back to the infield and then holding on as he ran into the center field fence.

The Rams added two more runs in the top of the seventh.  With one out, Laylock singled and Justin Williams came in to run.  A throwing error moved Williams to second where he scored on a base hit by LaNeve.  Bradley came in to pitch for the Tigers and got a fly ball by Peirish for the second out.  After an infield single, Brad Lalli dropped a fly ball into short center field to score LaNeve with the final run of the game.  Laylock got the side in order in the bottom of the inning as the Rams completed the 9-5 win that sent them on to the PIAA semifinals next Monday.

It was a tough loss for the Tigers who came out strong early to take the lead.  In the end, the Rams used the long ball to come from behind to grab the victory.  For his efforts at the plate, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Mike Cammarata as the Player of the Game.  The loss ended the Tigers' season as they finished with a final mark of 19-6 on the year.  NA was the section champion and the WPIAL runnerup before falling in the state quarterfinals.  The Tigers split four games with the Rams winning two in the regular season before dropping a pair to P-R in the post season.

The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning and senior RHP Ryan Oglesby held State College to just four hits as NA downed the District 6 Champions, 6-2, in a PIAA First Round contest at the Shaner Complex in Centre Hall on Monday.  Junior catcher Cody Gaertner led the NA attack with three hits while senior 3B Justin Brozick had two hits good for two RBIs.  Junior DH Nick Sell posted a triple and RBI for the winning Tigers.

After the Tigers built a 4-0 lead after one inning, they added another run in the top of the second.  NA made it a 6-0 game with an additional run in the top of the fourth before the Little Lions came back with a pair in the bottom of the fifth for their only runs of the game.

RAMS TOP TIGERS, 5-2, TO TAKE WPIAL QUAD A TITLE

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Pine-Richland Rams took an early 2-0 lead and were able to hold off the Tigers for most of the game on their way to a 5-2 victory in the WPIAL Quad A Championship at Consol Energy Park in Washington on Tuesday night.  Senior 1B Mark Jackson homered to pace NA with junior catcher Cody Gaertner adding a pair of hits.

After the Tigers went down in order in the top of the first, the Rams took the lead in the bottom of the inning.  Senior RHP Ryan Oglesby struck out Bryan Watt to start the inning, but Matt Berezo beat out an infield single.  After a walk to Ram pitcher Steve Laylock, Zac LaNeve hit a ground ball to senior 2B Eric Harbison who threw to senior SS Rob Sittig for the second out.  The throw to first to complete the double play was in the dirt and got away allowing Berezo to score the game's first run and LaNeve to go to second.  Ron Peirish followed with a base hit to right field to score LaNeve on a close play at the plate as the Rams took a 2-0 lead after one inning.

In the top of the second, Jackson was hit by a pitch.  Senior RF Mike Cammarata followed with a ground ball to second with the force out on Jackson at second base.  The throw to first was errant allowing Cammarata to reach second with one out.  Junior LF Brice Nikithser came through with a line drive single to right field that scored Cammarata to cut the lead to 2-1.  Gaertner was then walked.  Senior 3B Justin Brozick hit a hard ground ball into the hole at short but the Rams got a force out at third.  Senior CF Zach Jergan then grounded a ball up the middle that LaNeve could not come up with to load the bases.  P-R pitcher Laylock was then able to get out of the jam on a ground out to first base to retire the side.  After an inning and a half, Pine-Richland held a 2-1 lead.

The Rams added another run in the bottom of the second.  After Russell Clark led off with a single to center field, Aaron Kovalchick came in as a courtesy runner.  After Brad Lalli sacrificed Kovalchick to second, Shawn Rudolph lifted a fly ball to right field with Kovalchick tagging and racing to third.  The throw to third got away allowing Kovalchick to score to give the Rams a 3-1 lead after two.

The Tigers threatened in the top of the third but could not score.  With one out, junior DH Nick Sell bounced a single off the glove of Ram third baseman Ryan Hanahan.  After a ground out moved Sell to second, Cammarata drew a walk, but Laylock got a strike out to end the inning.  In the bottom of the third, P-R scored again.  Berezo led off with a single to center field and was sacrificed to second.  On the play, Berezo kept running and the throw to third was high and wide allowing Berezo to come all the way around to score.  The unearned run gave the Rams a 4-1 advantage after three innings of play.

Gaertner singled to lead off the fourth for NA but a strike out and double play kept the Tigers off the board.  In the bottom of the inning, the Rams added another run.  Rudolph led off with a base hit to short right field.  Justin Williams went in to run and stole second.  After a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third, Watt sent a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Williams to make it a 5-1 game.  After Oglesby hit the next batter, Wilt came in to pitch and got a ground ball to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wilt allowed a harmless single but struck out the side to keep it a three-run game.  In the top of the sixth, Jackson led off with a long home run off the scoreboard in left center field to cut the lead to 5-2.  Laylock then got the next three batters to end the inning.  Once again, Wilt was able to keep the Rams scoreless in the bottom of the inning.  In the seventh, the Tigers went down in order as Pine-Richland avenged a pair of earlier losses with the 5-2 victory.

It was a tough night for the usually dependable Tiger defense as they committed four errors that resulted in three unearned Ram runs.  Junior RHP Tanner Wilt pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief including striking out the side in the fifth inning.  For his long ball late in the game, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Mark Jackson as the Player of the Game.

The loss dropped the overall NA record to 17-5 as they collected the silver medal in the WPIAL tournament.  The loss was the first this season to Pine-Richland after two victories in section play.  NA has qualified for the PIAA tournament and will play a first round game on Monday.  The Tigers will meet District 6 Champion State College at the Shaner Complex in Centre Hall at 5:00 pm.

WILT SENDS TIGERS TO FINAL WITH THREE-HITTER
IN 3-1 WIN OVER PETERS TOWNSHIP

To listen to the WJPA replay of the game, click here!

Junior right hander Tanner Wilt allowed just one run on three hits while striking out twelve and walking none to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 victory over Peters Township in the WPIAL Quad A semifinals at the W&J Baseball Complex on Tuesday night.  Senior CF Zach Jergan scored a pair of runs for NA while junior DH Nick Sell and senior RF Mike Cammarata had RBIs for the winning Tigers.

The Indians got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first when Austin Hancock doubled home Brady Sheetz with two outs to give PT a 1-0 advantage after one inning.  The Tigers came back with two outs in the top of the third.  After Jergan had reached on an error and moved up on a ground out, Sell singled him home to tie the game a 1-1 going into the bottom of the third.

Wilt continued to keep the Indian under control over the next two innings.  In the top of the fifth, the Tigers grabbed the lead, once again with two outs.  After Jergan singled and stole second, Peters Township pitcher Ryan Minteer got a strike out and fly out.  A wild pitch moved Jergan to third, however, and a second wild pitch scored the Tiger senior to give NA a 2-1 lead.  After Sell walked and senior 1B Mark Jackson singled, Cammarata followed with a line drive single to left field to scored Sell to make it a 3-1 game after four and one half innings.

In innings six and seven, Wilt was able to preserve the lead although the Indians threatened in the seventh.  With one out, Wilt issued a walk.  With two outs, the Tiger right hander got another strike out but the batter reached when the catcher's throw to first was off line.  Wilt then recorded his 12th strikeout to end the game.

With the win, the overall NA record improved to 18-4 on the season as they advanced to the final.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 1st, at Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA.

TIGERS KNOCK NORWIN FROM QUAD A PLAYOFFS, 7-3

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The defending champion Tigers used strong defense and timely hitting to defeat the Norwin Knights, 7-3, in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Quad A tournament at the Burkett Complex in Robinson Township on Friday afternoon.  Senior third baseman Justin Brozick had four hits to pace NA while junior DH Nick Sell added three singles and two RBIs for the winning Tigers.  Senior 1B Mark Jackson had an RBI double as the Tigers pounded out 12 hits against the Knights’ previously unbeaten left hander Nate Ellwood.  Senior 2B Eric Harbison made two outstanding plays in the field to help the Tiger cause defensively.

Neither team scored in the first two innings although the Knights threatened in the bottom of the second.  With one out, Rocco Amendolo reached on an infield single.  Anthony Maroadi followed with a long foul fly ball that senior RF Mike Cammarata ran down just in front of the fence down the right field line.  After Tyler Thomas singled to right field, Harbison made a diving stop in the hole between first and second and was able to throw of Joe Antrilli to end the inning.

The Tigers put four on the board in the top of the third.  Brozick led off with the first of his four hits, a single to right center field.  Senior CF Zach Jergan followed with an infield single with Harbison then lining a single to left field to load the bases.  With one out, Sell singled up the middle scoring Brozick to give NA a 1-0 lead.  After a wild pitch scored Jergan with the second run. Jackson drilled a long double to the fence in left center field to score two more runners as the Tigers took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the inning.  The Knights came back with three in the bottom of the inning with a little help from the Tigers.  With one out, Jason Shirley singled to center field.  After Dylin Brooks walked, Matt Palo reached on an error to load the bases.  Catcher Max McDowell hit into a force play to drive in the first Norwin run.  Rocco Amandolo followed with a single to right field to cut the NA lead to 4-2.  After a walk, Thomas was hit by a pitch to force in another run before senior RHP Ryan Oglesby got the final out on a ground ball to senior Rob Sittig at shortstop.

In the top of the fourth, the Tigers added a pair of unearned runs.  Once again, Brozick led off with a base hit, this time to left field.  Jergan followed with a sacrifice bunt moving Brozick to second.  With two outs, Sittig reached on an errant throw to first with Brozick scoring to make it 5-3.  Sell followed with another base hit up the middle to give the Tigers a 6-3 advantage going into the bottom of the fourth.  After Cameron Onderko walked to lead off the bottom of the inning, Shirley grounded near second base where Sittig fielded the ball, stepped on second and threw to first to complete the double play.  Another ground ball ended the inning with NA holding a 6-3 lead going into the fifth frame.

In the top of the fifth, NA scored another unearned run.  With one out, junior catcher Cody Gaertner’s ground ball was misplayed by the Norwin first baseman with Gaertner racing all the way to second.  Senior Zach Stein went in as a courtesy runner and stole third.  Brozick’s third hit scored Stein to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead after four and one half innings.  In the bottom of the fifth, the Knights threatened.  With one out, McDowell hit a fly ball to right field that Cammarata was ready to catch before he lost his footing with the ball falling for a double.  Amendola followed with his third hit of the game but McDowell was forced to stop at third on a good throw from Cammarata.  Maroadi then hit a fly ball that Cammarata caught and again kept the runner from scoring with a strong throw to the plate.  A ground ball to short ended the inning with NA still holding the 7-3 lead after five innings.

Sell’s two out single in the top of the sixth did not result in a Tiger score.  Junior RHP Tanner Wilt came in to pitch in the bottom of the inning and retired the side in order.  In the top of the seventh, Gaertner doubled into the right center field gap with two outs.  Brozick followed with his fourth hit of the game, but courtesy runner George Marsico was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.  Wilt again got the Norwin side in order to preserve the victory as the Tigers moved on to the semifinals with the 7-3 win.

It was a good overall team win for the Tigers with contributions from a number of players.  Oglesby pitched well when he had to as earned his seventh victory without a loss.  Wilt came on to keep the Knights from threatening late.  For his efforts at the plate, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Justin Brozick as the Player of the Game.  The win improved the NA overall record to 17-4 on the season.  The Tigers will meet Peters Township, a 6-4 winner over Penn-Trafford in quarterfinal action on Friday.  The game will be played at the W&J University Field in Washington, PA. on Tuesday night.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

STEIN'S HOME RUN CAPS TIGER RALLY IN 4-1 WIN

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the way to a 4-1 non-section victory over Franklin Regional in the season finale on Senior Night at the Senior High field on Friday night.  Senior catcher Zach Stein slammed a  two-run homer to left field after junior LF Brice Nikithser had given NA the lead after scoring from second base on a wild pitch.  Senior 1B Mark Jackson had a pair of hits and an RBI for the winning Tigers.

The Panthers threatened in the top of the first against NA starter and senior RHP Ryan Oglesby.  With one out, Dom Venditti beat out an infield single.  Bobby McGrath followed with a base hit to left field, but Oglesby struck out the next two batters to end the inning.  In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers scored to take the lead.  Senior 2B Eric Harbison led off with a base hit to right field.  With one out, senior RF Mike Cammarata grounded to deep third with Harbison moving to second on the play.  Jackson followed with a single to center field that scored Harbison.  The Tigers took a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.

In the top of the third, Franklin Regional tied the game.  After Oglesby struck out the first two batters in the inning, Venditti walked and stole second.  McGrath then singled up the middle scoring Venditti to tie the game at 1-1.  Harbison ended the inning with a diving catch off the bat of Lenny Poliziani.  In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers threatened but did not score. After Harbison walked to lead off, senior SS Rob Sittig bunted back to pitcher Logan Madera who got a force out at second on the play.  Cammarata then singled to right field moving Sittig to second.  Madera got the next two batters on deep fly balls to end the threat.  The teams remained tied at 1-1 after three innings.

Neither team threatened in the fourth with senior RHP Eric Dorsch pitching for the Tigers.  In the top of the fifth, Venditti drilled a long triple to left center field, but Dorsch got a ground out to end the inning. In the bottom of the inning, senior CF Zach Jergan drew a walk and was sacrificed to second by Harbison.  Madera again kept NA off the board with a strike out and ground out.  It was still a 1-1 game after five innings.

Senior RHP Patrick Bradley came in to pitch for NA in the top of the sixth.   With one out, Miles Molinaro singled to center field and went to second on a wild pitch.  Ryan Fitzmaurice grounded to short with Molinary moving to third.  Bradley then got Matt Didiano on a foul pop fly to Jackson to end the inning.  In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers took the lead.  After Jackson led off with a base hit up the middle, junior Matt Steinbeck came in to run.  Nikithser grounded to third with Steinbeck being forced out at second.  Nikithser then raced home on a wild pitch when the ball rolled in front of the NA dugout.  After a ground out, senior 3B Justin Brozick reached on a throwing error that allowed him to move up to second.  Stein followed with a long drive over the left field fence scoring Brozick and giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead after six innings.

Bradley finished the game with style as he struck out the side in the top of the seventh.  It was a well played game with just one error and tough defensive plays by both teams.  For his towering blast and his work behind the plate, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Zach Stein as the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA completed the regular season with a final record of 16-4.  The Tigers will meet the winner of the Baldwin/Norwin first round game in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Quad A Championships on Thursday at W&J.   Game time is scheduled for 4:30 pm.

OGLESBY TOSSES NO-HITTER AS TIGERS
BLANK FOX CHAPEL, 10-0

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Senior RHP Ryan Oglesby pitched a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Tigers to a 10-0 section victory over Fox Chapel at the Senior High field on Monday night.  Oglesby struck out nine in winning his sixth game without a loss this season.   Junior LF Brice Nikithser had a double and single good for three RBIs to pace NA while senior SS Rob Sittig and junior DH Nick Sell recorded RBI doubles for the winning Tigers.

Neither team got off to a quick start.  Fox Chapel starter Don Sipple got the side in order in the bottom of the first with two strikeouts.  Oglesby retired six of the first seven batters including a pair of strikeouts.  The Tigers broke through in the bottom of the second to take the lead.  Senior 1B Mark Jackson lined a double over the head of FC right fielder Garrett Morasky to lead off.  A ground out by senior RF Mike Cammarata moved Jackson to third with one out.  Nikisthser followed with a base hit into the hole between third and short to score Jackson with the game's first run.  After a balk moved Nikithser to second, junior catcher Cody Gaertner hit a hard ground ball through the legs of the Fox Chapel first baseman with Nikishser scoring on the error.  The Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the third inning.

In the third after a strike out, Oglesby walked Morasky and hit FC lead off batter Charles Williams.  The Tiger senior then went on a roll as he struck out the next five batters.  In the bottom of the third, NA took advantage of some faulty FC defensive play and timely hitting to score six runs.  With one out, Sell walked.  Jackson followed with a ground ball to third but the throw to second went into right field with Sell moving to third.  After Jackson went to second on a wild pitch, Cammarata drew a walk to load the bases.  Nikithser came through again with a long double into the left center field gap to score a pair of runs to make it a 4-0 game.  Gaertner then grounded to second but the throw to first was low allowing Nikithser to come in to score.  Senior Zach Stein went in to run for Gaertner and stole second.   An attempted pick off throw to second was high and rolled into short center field allowing Stein to go to third.  After senior 3B Justin Brozick walked, senior CF Zach Jergan lined a single to center field that scored Stein.  The Foxes made a pitching change with LF J.T. Terwilliger replacing Sipple on the mound.  Senior 2B Eric Harbison grounded out with Brozick scoring on the play.  Terwilliger got another ground out to end the inning, but the Tigers held an 8-0 lead after three innings.

Oglesby continued to baffle the Fox Chapel hitters and got the side in the fourth and fifth innings.  The Tigers put the game away with a pair in the bottom of the fifth.  With two outs, Harbison walked.  Sittig followed with a long double into the left center field alley scoring Harbison and increasing the NA lead to 9-0.  Sell ended the game with a long blast into right center field that fell for a double with Sittig scoring.  The 10-0 lead invoked the five-inning rule as the Tigers claimed the victory.

It was a key victory for the Tigers with Oglesby leading the way on the mound.  For his efforts in keeping the Foxes hitless, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ryan Oglesby as the Player of the Game.  With the win, NA clinched at least a tie for the section title as they improved their section record to 9-1, the overall mark to 14-3 on the season.  The Tigers will travel to Seneca Valley tomorrow to meet the Raiders in a 4:00 pm section contest.

Miller replacing Ryan Fennell on the mound.  Nikithser hit a long fly ball that was bobbled but caught in deep right center field for a sacrifice fly that drove in Stein.  The Tigers took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the first.

Both pitchers took control over the next several innings as the score remained, 3-0.   Wilt got ten in a row thanks to a double play off a strike out.  Miller retired nine Tigers consecutively.  Butler was able to score in the bottom of the fourth.  After one out, Ryan Fennell drew a walk and went to second on a balk call.  Bobby Swartout then singled to left center field driving in Fennell to make it a 3-1 game.

The Tigers wasted no time in answering as they scored three times in the top of the fifth.  After senior 2B Eric Harbison led off with a base hit, Miller got the next two outs on a strike out and fielder's choice.  After Stein was hit by a pitch, Cammarata laced a two-strike pitch into the left field corner for a double that scored a pair of runs.  Gaertner followed with another base hit to right field to drive in Cammarata to give the Tigers a 6-1 lead after four and one half innings.  In the bottom of the fifth, Butler threatened on an infield hit by Crummy and a walk.  Wilt got out of the jam with two ground balls.  NA led, 6-1, after five complete innings of play.

In the top of the sixth, freshman PH Matt Waugaman reached second on a double when his fly ball was lost in the lights.   With two outs, Sittig hit a hard ground ball off the glove of Butler second baseman Michael Hartman.  When the ball rolled behind second base, senior pinch runner Zach Jergan was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The Tigers added two more runs in the top of the seventh.  Sell led off with a double down the left field line, and Stein walked.  After Sell stole third, Cammarata hit a sac fly to right field to score Sell and make it 7-1.  With two outs, Nikithser sent a long drive over the head of Butler CF Colin Willilamson driving in Gaertner to give the Tigers a commanding 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.  Senior RHP Patrick Bradley came in to pitch for the Tigers.  After the first two batters struck out, Mick Fennell singled to left field and Roman Bargo followed with a double into right center field that scored Fennell.  Bradley then struck out Crummy to end the game.  The Tigers had completed the 8-1 victory.

It was another good team victory for the Tigers with many contributors to the win.  Good pitching and good fielding helped NA take control of the section race with the victory.  For his efforts on the mound, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Tanner Wilt as the Player of the Game.  With the win, NA improved to 8-1 in section play, 13-2 overall as they qualified for the WPIAL playoffs.  The Tigers will travel to Plum tomorrow afternoon for a 4:00 pm non-section contest.

To listen to the MSA broadcast of the game, click here!

Senior RF Mike Cammarata slammed home runs in successive innings driving in five runs to lead the Tigers to a 16-6 victory over rival North Hills at Herb Field on Wednesday afternoon.  NA pounded out 20 hits capped by a seven-run fifth inning that led to the mercy run victory after five innings of play.  A number of Tigers got into the act with senior Mark Jackson pounding out four hits with junior DH Nick Sell, Cammarata and junior catcher Cody Gaertner all collecting three hits in the game.  Sell, Jackson, senior SS Rob Sittig, and junior LF Brice Nikithser all had doubles for the winning Tigers.  Senior RHP Ryan Oglesby pitched four innings to earn the victory.

The Tigers started quickly against NH starter Brandon Pritchard.  Senior 2B Eric Harbison led off with a single and went to third on a double by Sittig.  Sell drove in the fist run on a ground ball to short.  Jackson followed with an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game.  With one out, Gaertner singled home another run to make it 3-0 after on half inning of play.  In the bottom the inning, the Indians came back with a pair of runs.  Scott Zubik led off with a triple and scored on a base hit by Taylor Schmidt.  After Schmidt stole second, Andy DiMatteo drove him home with a single to center field as NH cut the Tiger lead to 3-2 after one inning.

In the top of the fourth, NA struck for four more runs.  After Sittig opened with a single and stole second, Sell's double brought him home to make it a 6-2 game.  Jackson followed with an RBI single, and Cammarata's first home run, a two-run shot, ended Pritchard's day on the mound.  Dick English came in to get the final outs, but the Tigers had taken a commanding 9-2 lead halfway through the game.  Once again, Ogilvie stymied the Indians in the bottom of the inning.

The Tigers exploded for seven more runs in the top of the fifth.  After Nikithser doubled to lead off, senior CF Zach Jergan singled him home and then stole second and third.  After Harbison walked, Sell plated Jergan with a base hit to make it 11-2.  A wild pitch brought in another run before another Jackson double extended the lead to 13-2.  With Bobby Smith pitching, Cammarata launched his second round tripper of the game, a three-run blast, to gave NA a 16-2 lead after four and a half innings of play.

WPIAL BASEBALL - 2010

The Tigers will compete again in Class AAAA of the WPIAL along with 26 other teams.  The top three teams in each section will enter the WPIAL tournament.  All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by best section won-loss record.  Teams that tie for first place will not have the tie broken and ALL of the tied teams will be declared section champions, will receive a section winner's plaque, and will be entered into the WPIAL tournament.  If three or more teams tie for first place, only those teams will qualify for the playoffs.

In the event of a multiple tie (two or more teams) for a playoff position, head-to-head competition will be the first determinant.  If head-to-head does not break the tie, the following tie-breaking system will be used.  If three or more teams are tied for second place and the tie breaking system identifies one team as the second place team, the remaining teams will then be tied for third place and the process begins all over with head-to-head competition being the first determinant for establishing the third place team.  If a tie cannot be broken all tied teams will enter the playoffs.

TIE-BREAKER SYSTEM

a.  Section won-lost records of the tied teams will be compiled.
b.  The team(s) with the best numerical head-to-head section record among the tied teams will enter post-season play.
c.  If the tie cannot be clearly be broken, all tied teams will enter post-season play.

In Class AAAA, three teams will represent the WPIAL in PIAA inter-district play.  The third place team will be determined on the field between the two non finalists.

Postponed games must be played in order of postponement and scheduled on the first common open date.  Make up section games must have preference over exhibition games, JV games, and Junior High games EVEN IF A CANCELLATION OF A NON-SECTION GAME IS REQUIRED TO MEET THIS DIRECTIVE.

During all WPIAL section competition, any game that is interrupted by bad weather prior to becoming a legal game will be declared a suspended and resumed at that point and concluded on the next available playing date.

The Ten Run Rule, ending a game after 4 1/2 or 5 innings, as listed in Rule 4, Section 3, Article 2 of the National Federation Rule Book, will be in effect for all regular and post-season play.  Additionally, the fifteen run rule, ending a game after three innings, as listed in the PIAA Rules and Regulations, will be in effect as well.

WPIAL Championship play is scheduled to begin the week of May 17, 2010.  The finals will be divided between the two dates, Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2, 2010.  The site will be Consol Energy Field in Washington, PA.  The WPIAL reserves the right to make adjustments to play dtes during the tournament, as it deems necessary.
