TIGERS PUNISH FOX CHAPEL, 53-20,
 IN WPIAL FIRST ROUND

(11/5/11) With an all around performance from junior quarterback Mack Leftwich, the North Allegheny Tigers coasted to a 53-20 victory over the Fox Chapel Foxes in the opening round of the Class AAAA Playoffs.  Leftwich passed for 112 yards and two scores, while adding 97 yards rushing on 10 carries and another touchdown via the ground game.  On several occasions, Leftwich did a terrific job of turning a busted play into a positive rushing gain helping the Tigers convert important first downs in Fox Chapel territory.  For his efforts, Leftwich was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game by the North Allegheny Sports Network.

North Allegheny opened the scoring just over one minute into the contest when fullback Nick Passodelis rumbled 55-yards for a touchdown to put NA on top, 7-0. The 16th seeded Foxes reminded everyone that they were invited to the playoff party too and tied the score at 7-7 late in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Noel Wilson to Ryan Frankert.  The Fox Chapel touchdown served as a wake up call for the reigning WPIAL and PIAA champions, and the Tigers kicked things into gear as the second quarter began.  Following the Fox Chapel touchdown, the Tigers drove 61-yards on nine plays and scored on an Alex DiCiantis three-yard touchdown run to give NA the lead back at 14-7 with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter.  Passodelis added his second touchdown of the game with a two-yard run up the gut to inflate the Tigers lead to 21-7.  Late in the first half, North Allegheny gained possession of the football at the Fox Chapel 46-yard line with only 45 seconds on the clock.  NA used just 20 seconds to score as the Tigers traversed the 46-yards necessary in only three plays, capped by a 17-yard touchdown catch by James Kleinhample on a pass from Leftwich to increase the score to 28-7 heading into halftime.

North Allegheny opened the second half with a surprise onside kick which was recovered by Isaac Weaver at the Fox Chapel 47-yard line.  Eight plays later, Leftwich hit a wide open Ben Connolly in the back of the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown pass and a 34-7 advantage.  The Tigers claimed the victory running away in the second half with DiCiantis adding another touchdown run, along with a one-yard score by Isaiah Faulk and a 65-yard touchdown scamper by Tommy Keisling.  Fox Chapel did get on the scoreboard two more times but with the game well out of reach in the fourth quarter.  Chad Garnett trotted 99-yards with a kickoff return for a score and Noel Wilson capped the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run.

The victory gives North Allegheny their 17th consecutive win and sets up a Northern Seven Conference rematch in the quarterfinals with the Seneca Valley Raiders.  The Raiders were 30-13 winners over Penn Hills in the opening round to earn a second meeting with the Tigers next Friday night at a site to be determined.  That game will be carried live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network with pre-game coverage beginning at 7:05 pm.
