FOUR TOUCHDOWNS BY LEFTWICH LEADS TIGERS TO HOMECOMING WIN North Allegheny used four Mack Leftwich touchdown passes to runaway with a 35-7 win over the Pine-Richland Rams on Homecoming night at Newman Stadium. Leftwich tossed two touchdown passes to Brendan Coniker and two more to James Kleinhampl to give NA a 28-7 halftime lead. The junior quarterback completed 10 of 13 passes for 226 yards and was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game by the North Allegheny Sports Network. On homecoming night, there was a carnival atmosphere at Newman Stadium which translated onto the field as well when a circus play transpired on the opening possession of the football game. With the Tigers backed up on their own eight-yard line on a 3rd down and 10, Leftwich hit Kleinhampl with a deep ball at the NA 40-yard line. As Kleinhampl traveled into Pine-Richland territory, he fumbled the football which was recovered by the Rams Luke Merhaut who returned it to the Tigers 48-yard line before fumbling it back to NA’s Alex Jewell. After that, the Tigers settled down and scored the game’s first points on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Leftwich to Coniker to put the Tigers ahead, 7-0. After Pine-Richland was forced to punt, a Tigers miscue allowed the Rams a golden opportunity to get on the scoreboard. North Allegheny fumbled a Jake Savitz punt and Pine-Richland recovered at the Tigers 13-yard line. Two plays later, PR quarterback Austin Whipple dumped a screen pass to tailback Brock Baranowski who chugged into the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown and a tie ball game, 7-7. Pine-Richland’s sudden momentum was brief however as the Tigers quickly scored again. Isaiah Faulk returned the ensuing kickoff 60-yards to the PR 35-yard line. It took the Tigers five plays to take advantage of their tremendous field position, capping the drive on a six-yard touchdown pass to Coniker from Leftwich to give NA the lead back, 14-7. The Tigers began to pull away in the second quarter, scoring just 45 seconds into the period on an 11-yard touchdown reception by Kleinhampl. North Allgheny struck again at 4:23 of the second quarter when Leftwich uncorked a perfect deep ball for Kleinhampl who was tackled into the end zone for a 44-yard TD and a 28-7 Tigers lead. The Rams had an opportunity to cut into the NA advantage before halftime, but those hopes were dashed on an interception by Elijah Zeise at the Tigers three-yard line with 12 seconds to go in the half. With more homecoming festivities taking place at halftime, the circus play returned to the football field to begin the second half as both teams traded numerous penalties and failed to develop a rhythm. North Allegheny would eventually regain their dexterity and put one more touchdown on the board at 9:42 of the fourth quarter when Alex DiCiantis plowed his way into the end zone for a three-yard touchdown run to bring the final score to 35-7. The victory keeps North Allegheny undefeated at 7-0 and ups their conference record to 4-0. Pine-Richland drops to 1-6 on the year and 1-4 in conference play. The Tigers have an opportunity to lock up the North Severn title next week with a visit to Shaler.
