MEET SUMMARIES LADY TIGERS TOP HOPEWELL, CENTER North Allegheny continued their winning streak on Thursday night after defeating the Center Trojans and the Hopewell Vikings. The Tigers finished the night with a team score of 144.2, while Hopewell finished in second place with a 134.35 and Center in third with a 128.85. North Allegheny is currently undefeated in their season (7-0) with only the WPIAL Championship remaining. The Tigers watered down some of their vaults for the night, which resulted in lower than usual scores on that event, however Senior Becky Fritsch was able to put up a strong score for the team with a 9.1. Sophomore Brooke Mancuso had the second-highest score of the night for the team with an 8.6. The Tigers also struggled a little bit on bars for the night, however Junior Tiara Chadran came though once again for the team, scoring a 9.35. Chadran has led the team on bars in every meet that she has competed in this season and will be one to watch for on this event at WPIAL’s. Senior Brittany Wilson also hit a strong routine, scoring a 9.1, while Sophomore Kirsten Hauser finished with a 9.05. On beam, the Tigers had a lot of success from their intended starters, hitting 5 out of 5 routines. Junior Tori Bianco posted the highest score of the night with a 9.5. Freshman Taylor Smith came in second place for the team with a 9.4, followed by a 9.0 from Chadran, an 8.9 from Freshman Mariah DePalma and an 8.85 from Senior Becky Fritsch. All of the formerly mentioned ladies contributed to the team score on beam, however sophomore Sarah Fritsch also hit a nice routine individually that scored a 9.1. On floor, Smith set the pace for the team with a 9.65 while Chadran was close behind, scoring a 9.6. Hauser and (Brittany) Wilson also had nice routines, both achieving a personal season-high score of 9.4. The Lady Tigers will conclude their season with the WPIAL Championship on Saturday, February 19th at Moon Middle School along with the seven other WPIAL teams: Baldwin, Fox Chapel, Hopewell, Moon, Montour and Pine-Richland. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS EDGE MOON
In their last home meet of the season, the North Allegheny Tigers scored a season-high 149.30 to claim a Senior Night victory over long-standing WPIAL rival, Moon on Monday night. Moon's final team score was 147.05 The match-up between the two teams was extremely competitive throughout the entire night. Going into the final rotation, North Allegheny and Moon were separated by less than one tenth of a point in their total team score, however North Allegheny rose to Moon's challenge and was able to hit solid floor routines from start to finish in order to solidify the win. Freshman Taylor Smith posted the first big floor score for the Tigers with a 9.6, opening up her routine with a round-off, 1 1/2 twist, punch front spike. Following Smith was sophomore Sarah Fritsch who kept the momentum going with a solid routine that scored 9.55. Senior Becky Fritsch and junior Tara Chadran continued to build off previous scores fro their teammates, both tying with a 9.65. Chadran opened up her routine with a powerful round-off, back handspring, double back, while Becky Fritsch closed out her routine with a front handspring, front 1/1. Junior Tori Bianco anchored the floor line-up for the Tigers, and for the second meet in-a-row, posted a team-high score of 9.7. Other top performers of the night were seen by Chadran on the vault, scoring a 9.3 on a Yuerchenko tuck, and a 9.55 on bars. Becky Fritsch scored a 9.45 on bars and Smith notched a 9.5 on beam. Seniors Becky Fritsch and Brittany Wilson were also honored before the meet for Senior Night. Both of these ladies are wonderful assets to the team and will be greatly missed next season. The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, February 3 for a tri-meet match-up against Center and Hopewell. The competition will begin at 7:00 pm. MEET SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * NA TOPS BALDWIN The North Allegheny Tigers crushed the competition in their Monday night match-up against Baldwin High School. The Lady Tigers took first place with a team score of 147.85, nearly 14.75 points better than the Fighting Highlander’s team score of 133.10. The night’s success was a result of focus and execution from the team as a whole, however Junior Tiara Chadran confirmed her leadership for the Tigers by putting up solid scores on each of the four events throughout the night. Chadran posted a 9.35 with a beautiful Yuerchenko Pike on vault, a team-high 9.5 on bars, a 9.1 on beam, and a 9.5 on floor. She also had the highest all-around score of the team with a 37.40. Junior Tori Bianco also put up great scores with a 9.4 on bars, a team-high 9.7 on floor, and an all-around score of 36.95. Other stand-out competitors of the night were freshman Taylor Smith and Mariah DePalma. Smith led the team on vault with a huge Yuerchenko Pike which scored a 9.55, and had the third highest all-around score with a 36.45 right behind teammates Chadran and Bianco. DePalma also put up solid scores throughout the night, with a 9.1 on bars and a 9.2 on beam. Both of these freshmen are exciting additions to the Tiger’s line-up and will be great assets to the team this year and in the future to come. Smith brings precision, difficulty and gorgeous long lines to the team, and DePalma brings power and consistency. The Tigers are back in action on Monday, January 31st, as they host Moon High School for their Senior Night. The meet is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at X-Cel Gymnastics in Cranberry. North Allegheny’s two seniors, Rebecca Fritsch and Brittany Wilson will be honored at the meet as they will be competing for the last time at their home facility. MEET SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS DEFEAT FOX CHAPEL The North Allegheny Lady Tigers stepped up to the challenge and claimed another first place victory against the Fox Chapel Foxes on Friday, despite missing the majority of their top scorers for the night. North Allegheny ended with a team score of 133.30, while Fox Chapel finished with a score of 108.65. Setting the pace for the team throughout the entire night was freshman Taylor Smith. Smith set team-high scores on each of the four events, tying with sophomore Casey Lehecka on vault with an 8.95. Smith also scored an 8.6 on bars, 8.95 on beam and a 9.25 on floor. Her all-around score was a 35.75. Smith will be an exciting gymnast to watch for in the future of North Allegheny Gymnastics, as she brings dynamic, high level skills and outstanding execution to the team’s depth pool. Other highlights of the night included the return of sophomore Brooke Mancuso to the line-up after being out for an extended period of time due to an elbow injury. Mancuso was able to compete on all four events despite the limited amount of training that she’s had in the gym, and finished the night ranked as the second highest all-around scorer for the team (31.95) behind Smith. Mancuso’s top performances were displayed on vault, scoring an 8.4, and on floor, scoring an 8.95 with a brand new front handspring, front layout tumbling pass. Come out and support North Allegheny Gymnastics on Monday, Jan. 17th at 7:30 as the Lady Tigers host Baldwin High School at their home facility in Cranberry, X-Cel Gymnastics. MEET SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * NA WINS OPENING MEET In their season opener, the North Allegheny Tigers came out and dominated the competition with a team score of 145.3 in a tri-meet match-up against Pine-Richland, 130.75 and Montour, 122.4. The Tigers opened up the night on balance beam where they were temporarily hindered by several falls, however solid performances by junior Tori Bianco, senior Rebecca Fritsch and junior Kirsten Hauser helped to get the team re-focused and back on track for the remaining three events. The Tigers especially led the way on the floor exercise with huge tumbling passes by junior Tiara Chadran and Bianco. Chadran opened up her floor routine by nailing a double back, followed by a front handspring, front layout, front layout combination and finishing it off with a round-off, back handspring, back handspring, back layout. Bianco entertained the crowd and judges with a round-off, whip, 1 ½ twist, punch front combination that earned her the team’s highest score of 9.6. North Allegheny finished up strong as a team on both vault and bars. Sophomore Sarah Fritsch earned a 9.3 on vault with a new yuerchenko tuck, while Chadran and Bianco continued to set the pace for the team on bars, recording a 9.05 (Chadran) and a 9.0 (Bianco) to wrap up the night.
Tigers Gymnastics will
be back in action on Friday, January 14th, where they will take
