KUREMSKY WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT STATE DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP North Allegheny senior Connor Kuremsky made history this weekend by becoming the first ever four-time PIAA Class AAA diving champion. As if earning gold for a fourth time wasn’t enough, Kuremsky did it by shattering his own previous state record with a diving score of 599.50. The previous record owned by Kuremsky was 543.85, which he set last year. Kuremsky’s effort was part of a fourth place finish for the NA Boys’ team. The Tigers scored 138 team points, better than 51 other schools in the boys’ competition. Also in action on day two of the state championships at Bucknell University was junior Matthew Buerger who finished sixth (49.37) in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke and ninth (4:34.29) in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle. Buerger, along with Zachary Buerger, Evan Staresinic, and Kostya Borisov claimed a fifth place finish (3:06.75) in the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The Lady Tigers left Bucknell with a fourth place finish with a score of 116.5, besting 48 other competing schools. Junior Allie Pennetti came in twelfth place (51.98) in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle event. Pennetti was also part of the Lady Tigers combo that finished fifth (3:30.04) in the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Sophomores Katerina Borisov and Arielle Krigger, and junior Kally Vanderbilt led the way for NA in the Girls Freestyle Relay. In the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke, sophomore Gabriella Borza earned eighth place with a time of 1:06.12. The state championships at Bucknell end a very successful campaign for the Tigers swim teams and conclude a great high school career for Kuremsky and other NA seniors. Congratulations to the North Allegheny swimmers for their efforts this season.
