DALLIER NAMED FIRST-TEAM SELECTION BY MSA SPORTS NETWORK

North Allegheny’s top scorer, Anthony Dallier, has received some post-season recognition as he was named to the MSA Sports Network’s All-Netters Team.  The 6-6 junior was a first-team selection by MSA, along with Devon Cottrell (Gateway), Josh Valentic (Trinity), C.J. Hester (West Mifflin) and 2011 Player of the Year, Micah Mason (Highlands).  One of the top scorers in the WPIAL, Dallier averaged 23 points per game and also led the team in steals and rebounding.  According to MSA Sports, Dallier has received a scholarship from Duquesne University and is also receiving interest from some Patriot League and Ivy League schools.  Dallier’s best game of the year came at home against Central Catholic on January 27, when the junior led the Tigers to an 80-75 victory by scoring a career high 47 points.

TIGERS FALL TO CHARTIERS VALLEY
51-43 IN WPIAL QUARTERFINALS

With a stingy defense and strong bench play from junior Wayne Capers, Chartiers Valley bounced North Allegheny from the playoffs with a 51-43 win in the WPIAL quarterfinals at Ambridge High School.  After suffering an ACL injury in the first football game of the season, Capers didn’t return to action until the Colts’ opening round basketball victory over Norwin last week.  Capers played sparingly against Norwin, but against North Allegheny he played 10 minutes and scored 15 points to help Chartiers Valley hold off a furious late rally by the Tigers.

In the first half, both teams traded jabs as the defenses kept things tight and low scoring.  Chartiers Valley led throughout most of the first half, but the Tigers tied the score on four separate occasions.  After the Colts regained the lead on a pair of Zach Wallace free-throws at 19-17 late in the first half, senior Anton Constantino, who helped keep the Tigers right with CV in the first 16 minutes, hit a three pointer to put North Allegheny in front for the first time in the game at 20-19.  Constantino scored 10 points in the first half, but it was all the points the Colts would allow him on the day.  The Tigers took their one point lead into the locker room at halftime, and as it turned out, it would be the only time NA had the lead all game long.

The Colts burst through the gates to start the third quarter, grabbing the lead back on a 10-2 run that was capped on a Steve Burda trey.  Senior Matt Noszka paced CV in the first half with 12 points and finished the game with 18 points.  However, with the Tigers trailing 32-22 and about to begin a frantic rally, it was Capers’ play off the bench that kept the Tigers just far enough away on the scoreboard.  Capers scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, including a pair of timely three pointers in the left corner.

With North Allegheny’s season on the line, the Tigers turned to their hard-nosed defense to force turnovers and convert them into points.  Senior Byrum Louco was huge in this comeback effort, scoring eight second half points, four steals and four rebounds.  For his play, Louco earned the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.  Louco hit a two-point jumper and a pair of free-throws to end the third quarter to draw the Tigers to within 32-26.

NA’s Anthony Dallier was able to free himself from the airtight Colts defense late in the game, to post nine second half points.  Dallier finished with a team high 11 points as CV held the talented junior to just one bucket in the first half.  Senior Steve Ferringer also added seven points, including a three-pointer in the second half.

After a Dallier steal and lay-up, North Allegheny closed to within five points of the Colts at 44-39 with 2:30 remaining in the game.  Unfortunately, the Tigers could come no closer as Chartiers Valley held serve for the remainder of the game to ride out a 51-43 win and a trip to the WPIAL semifinals.

A week after hitting 67% from three-point land against Woodland Hills in the opening round, the Tigers shot only 2 of 19  against Chartiers Valley from beyond the arc.  The Colts hit 51% from the field, while limiting North Allegheny to 31% shooting for the game.  The Chartiers Valley defense, and bench play from Capers, were the keys to the Colts advancement to the semifinals.

Despite the loss, the Tigers put together a tremendous 2010-2011 season under head coach Dave DeGregorio, ending the year with a 20-4 record.  With the team’s leading scorer in Anthony Dallier due back for his senior campaign next year, along with J.C. Howard and Ricky Minsterman to name a few, the future remains bright for North Allegheny.

WPIAL BOYS' BASKETBALL - 2010-11

The Tigers will compete again in the WPIAL in Class AAAA along with 29 other teams.  The top four teams in each section will enter the WPIAL Basketball Tournament scheduled to begin on February 18, 2011.  All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by the best section won-loss record.  Teams that tie for first place will not have the tie broken and ALL tied teams will be declared section champions, will receive a section winner's plaque, and will be entered into the WPIAL tournament.  If four or more teams tie for first place, only those teams will qualify for post-season play.

In the event of a multiple tie (two or more teams) for a playoff position, head-to-head competition will be the first determinant.  If head-to-head does not break the tie, the following tie-breaking system will be used.  If three or more teams are tied for third place and the tie breaking system identifies one team as the third place team, the remaining teams will then be tied for fourth place and the process begins all over with head-to-head competition being the first determinant for establishing the fourth place team.  If a tie cannot be broken, all tied teams will enter the playoffs.

TIE-BREAKER SYSTEM

1.  Section won-loss records of the tied teams will be compiled.
2.  The team(s) with the best numerical head-to-head section record among the tied teams will enter post-season play.
3.  If the tie cannot be broken, all tied teams will enter post-season play.

All regular season section games that are postponed must be made up on the NEXT non-section play date.  Section play must be completed by SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2011.  All teams (qualifying playoff teams or non-qualifying teams) that complete their section schedule by the prescribed date may play exhibition games provided they do not exceed their limit of 22 competitions.  No play-off qualifying team may play a game after Monday, February 14, 2011.  Teams that qualify for the WPIAL playoffs may scrimmage any other team that has qualified for post-season play beginning on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

In Quad-A, five teams will qualify for the PIAA tournament.  PIAA bracket placement will be determined on a "Follow the winner" basis.
