The North Allegheny Varsity II inline hockey team was ready to get back to action after losing their last three games before the holiday break.

Latrobe came on strong and scored the first two goals of the game.  The Tigers stole the momentum after a killing a penalty late in the first when junior Nick Moss buried two goals in less than two minutes.  Latrobe quickly scored again to end the first period 3-2, Latrobe.

Sophomore Karl Renner scored in the opening seconds of the second period to tie the game 3-3.  The Tigers defense, along with freshman call-up goalie Dominic "The Dominator" Manz, refused to allow Latrobe to score again.  Senior Andrew Gordon recorded the go-ahead goal with 5:50 left in the second period.

The third period was all NA with Renner scoring two more times and Moss adding his third goal to net hat tricks for both.  Sophomore call-up Tyler Ware added a goal with 51 seconds left on the clock to bring the final to 8-3, Tigers.

The Tigers are ready to take on first place McKeesport next Saturday at the RMU Island Sports Center at 8:30 pm.

Pine Richland looked to settle the score against NA after a 9 -1 loss in October.  The Rams started off strong by scoring the first goal of the game.  Senior Anthony Ferraro shook that off quickly and did not let another one in all evening.  Senior defensemen Dillon Egerter, Andrew Gordon and Pat Kelly put pressure on the PR goalie while keeping everyone away from our net.
Junior defenseman Donny Oesterle answered that with a goal 30 seconds later to slow the PR momentum.  Both teams continued with strong defense until sophomore Karl Renner sank a slap shot from the blue line recording the game winning goal.  The Tigers continued their scoring to secure the win when junior Nick Moss landed another goal before the end of the first period.
Oesterle  deposited a slap shot in goal to start off the second period.  Less than a minute later junior Chris Schwab scored again off senior Lloyd Carmack.  Renner scored again after the Tigers successfully handled the penalty kill.
In the third period both sides chalked up a couple of penalties.  Junior Nick Neugebauer stayed focused and scored for the Tigers.  Oesterle scored a third goal, then Schwab ended the game with a power play goal from Renner.
Come experience the skill and excitement of NA V2 Inline this Sunday, November 21st when the Tigers host Seneca Valley at 12:45 and Latrobe at 2:45 at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center on Neville Island.

NA Tops Butler In Final Seconds, 5-4

by Inline Hockey Contributor

The NA V2 Inline Hockey team came back from a three goal deficit to defeat the Butler Tornados at the Island Sports Center on Sunday.  Butler came out strong in the first period scoring the first three goals of the game.  Junior Chris Schwab started the NA scoring with an unassisted goal during the final minutes of the first period.

The second period was all NA.  Senior Dillon Egerter rifled a slap shot past the Butler goalie followed by sophomore Karl Renner scoring two more to end the 2nd period with NA up by one.  Junior goaltender Mike Zombeck stopped one goal after another.

The third period started out as all defense for both teams.  Senior defensemen Andrew Gordon and Pat Kelly matched well along with junior Donny Oesterle and sophomore call-up Dan Brunner to contain the Butler offense leaving them scoreless for most of the third period.  With a little over three minutes left in the game, Butler took advantage of a Tiger penalty and tied the game.  It looked like the game would go into overtime until senior Pat Kelly slid a pass to Renner who sent a beautiful saucer pass to junior Nick Moss who swept the winning goal past the Butler goaltender with less than 60 seconds left in the game.

The Tigers look forward to their next game against Pine Richland this coming Sunday.

The Varsity 2 team traveled to Butler for two games on Sunday.

The first game was against Shaler.  Sophomore Karl Renner started the game with a wrap around goal at 13:40.  Unfortunately Shaler answered with two goals before junior Nick Moss scored.  Shaler added one more goal to their total before the end of the first period.

Renner picked up two more goals in the second assisted by junior Donny Oesterle while Shaler added four more.

Shaler added an eighth goal while Moss ended the scoring with a goal from Renner.  The defensive skills of seniors Dillon Egerter and Andrew Gordon along with juniors Nick Neugebauer and Chris Schwab held Shaler away from the goal for the final 11 minutes of the game.  The final was NA 5 Shaler 8.

The team quickly regrouped and came out ready for their game against Central Catholic.  The Moss and Renner offensive line scored two goals in the first period.  A third goal was called back by the referees.  Central kept up by scoring two times in the first as well.

The second period was all NA.  First Renner scored twice and then Moss scored two more.  Egerter, Schwab, and Oesterle kept Central scoreless for the second.

The third period started with a power play goal by Neugebauer.  Central scored their third and final goal of the game.  Renner added one to the total for a final score of NA 7 Central Catholic 3.

The Tigers will host undefeated Montour on Sunday, October 31st at 2:45 at the Island Sports Center.
