MORE LAURELS FOR FREYERMUTH, MILLER

The accolades continue to roll in for North Allegheny seniors Kassie Freyermuth and Julia Miller.  Freyermuth was named as a First-Team selection to the All-WPIAL Girls' Volleyball Team this week.  Middle Blocker Julia Miller was chosen as a Second-Team to the All-WPIAL squad.    Among the ten volleyball players given First-Team laurels, seven of them are from Section-3 further proving that the Tigers were major players in the toughest section in Class AAA.

Freyermuth, a three-year starter for the Tigers, finished with a team-high 182 kills and a hitting percentage of .303.  She also led the team with 64 blocks while recording 112 digs.  "Kassie is one of the most versatile players I have coached," said head coach Dan Schall.  Freyermuth played three different positions during her three years as a varsity starter:  middle blocker, outside hitter, and opposite.

Freyermuth and Miller join their siblings in earning WPIAL honors.  Kassie's sister, Gretta, was an All-WPIAL selection in 2009.  Julia's brother. Matt, was an All-WPIAL selection in the 2008 season.  Congratulations to Freyermuth, Miller, and the rest of the Lady Tigers for a great season.

2010 WPIAL GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Tigers will compete again in Class AAA of the WPIAL along with 33 other teams.  Three teams from each section will qualify for participation in WPIAL Championship play at the completion of the regular season.  All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by the best section won/loss record.  Teams that tie for first place will not have the tie broken and ALL of the tied teams will be declared section champions, will receive a section winner's plaque, and will be entered into the WPIAL tournament.  If three or more teams tie for first place, only those teams will qualify for the playoffs.

In the event of a multiple tie (tow or more teams) for a playoff position, head-to-head will be the first determinant.  If head-to-head does not break the tie, the following Tie-Breaking System will be used.  If three or more teams tie for second place and the Tie-Breaking System identifies one team as the second-place team, the remaining teams will be then tied for third place and the process begins all over with head-to-head competition being the first determinant for establishing the third place team.  If a tie cannot be broken, all tied teams will enter the playoffs.

TIE-BREAKING SYSTEM

1.  Section records of the tied teams will be compiled.
2.  The team(s) with the best numerical head-to-head section record among the tied teams will enter post-season play.
3.  If the tie cannot clearly be broken, all tied teams will enter post-season play.

All matches will be played with a best of five game format.

Two WPIAL teams will qualify for the State Championships to be held at a date and time to be determined.
