SLOW PITCH ENDS SEASON WITH LOSS TO PETERS IN SEMIFINALS
by Ralph Pagone and Russ Schopper QUARTERFINALS The Lady Tigers entered the playoffs on Saturday,10/23 as the overall #2 seed. Their first opponent was Seneca Valley, who had defeated Montour earlier in the day to advance to the next round of the play-offs. Seneca Valley began the first inning with a 5-run outburst, setting the tone of the game early. However, Freshman Julia Buffalini responded early for the Lady Tigers with a lead-off home run over the left field fence, her first career home run. The inning ended with Seneca Valley leading 5 - 1. Nia Parillo and the rest of the Lady Tiger defense then proceeded to hold Seneca Valley to only one more run for the balance of the game. On offense, Ryanne Tyler went 2 for 3 with a single and a double and 2 RBI's. Katie Grieser was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's. Nia Parillo, Kim Wolfe, and Jenn Milkey also contributed with 2 hits each. In classic "bend but don't break" fashion, the Lady Tigers pulled off the win by a score of 9 - 6 to advance to the semi-finals on Sunday 10/24. SEMIFINALS The Lady Tigers advanced to the semi-finals in
the WPISL play-offs on Sunday,10/24 as they played host to
Peters Township at Simmons Field in Bethel Park. Both offenses
sputtered early in the game, with NA leading 2 - 1 after 2
innings. Peters then scored 2 runs in the third inning and 2
runs in the 4th inning. The Lady Tigers just couldn't answer
Peters' offensive output, The Lady Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 10 wins and 4 losses. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS END REGULAR SEASON WITH SWEEP by Ralph Pagone The Lady Tigers finished their regular season this weekend with a record of 9 - 3, winning both of their games of a doubleheader yesterday with Seneca Valley at Marshall Middle School Field. The Lady Tigers won the first game by a score of 7 - 2. Nia Parillo had a solid performance at pitcher, striking out 3 Seneca Valley batters. Marlee Tyler also contributed with an unassisted double play. Leading the way on offense for NA was Annie Altman, who was 2 - 3 with two RBI's, Colleen Henry, also 2 - 2, and Ryanne Tyler, who added a triple and a single with 1 RBI. In the second game, the Lady Tigers exploded for 15 runs on 20 hits and won the contest by a score of 15 - 13. Again leading the way on offense was Annie Altman, who reached base all four at bats with a walk, two singles, and a based-loaded double to the fence. She finished the game with 6 RBI's. Also contributing on offense was Kim Wolfe, who reached base all four at bats with an intentional walk, two singles, and a double, adding 3 RBI's.. Jenn Milkey added 3 RBI's on offense, while turning in two huge defensive plays to stop Seneca Valley in the last two innings of the game to seal the victory for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers will advance to the WPISL playoffs next Saturday at Simmons Field in Bethel Park, against the winner of Montour and Seneca Valley. Game time will be at 4pm. Semi-finals and finals are scheduled for Sunday at 1pm and 3pm, respectively. Come out and support our Lady Tigers. For a look at the full WPISL playoff bracket, click here! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS EARN SPLIT WITH SHALER by Ralph Pagone The Lady Tigers finished the weekend with a record of (7-3), splitting their doubleheader yesterday with Shaler at Reserve Elementary Field. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 6 - 0 lead after one completed inning, and lead for most of the game by as much as 11 - 6. However, the Lady Titans never gave up, and took the lead from NA by a score of 18 - 12. Shaler was able to hold on for the win by a score of 18 - 14. Leading the way on offense for NA in the losing effort was Jenn Milkey, who hit two doubles for 4 RBI's and Kim Wolfe, who hit two doubles for 2 RBI's. Annie Altman added a triple with 1 RBI. In the second game, the Lady Tigers were trailing by a score of 7 - 1 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning. While the Lady Tigers continued to whittle away at Shaler's lead on offense, NA played some outstanding defense, turning in a timely M. Tyler (unassisted) to Milkey double play which ended a Shaler threat in the 4th inning. In the 5th innining, an Altman to R. Tyler to Hogg put out was recorded at third base on the lead batter of the inning trying to stretch a double to a triple. To help NA take the lead and never give it back, Nia Parillo hit a timely, bases-loaded triple for 3 RBI's, and Brittany Hogg hit a triple for 1 RBI. Sealing the victory for the Lady Tigers was Courtney Wolfe, who hit a single for 2 RBI's while playing in place of her sister Kim, who was injured earlier in the game. The Lady Tigers will look to improve their record to 9 - 3 this Sunday, October 17th, when they host Seneca Valley at Marshall Middle at 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Come out and support our Lady Tigers. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS POUND OUT WINS OVER FOX CHAPEL by Ralph Pagone The Lady Tigers finished the weekend with a record of 6 - 2, winning both games of their doubleheader yesterday with Fox Chapel at Marshall Middle, which was also Senior Recognition Day. The Lady Tigers won the first game by a score of 11 - 1. Leading the way on offense was Kim Wolfe, who was 3 for 3 with six RBI's. Also contributing with some timely pinch-hitting to put the game away, were Courtney Wolfe and Morgan Meinert, who hit back-to-back doubles. On defense, Jenn Milkey turned in a clutch double play to stall a Fox Chapel threat. In the game two of the twin bill, the Lady Tigers continued with their strong offensive performance, winning 16-11. They started explosively, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, and refused to let up. NA added seven more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Leading the offensive output was Nia Parillo, by going 2 for 2. Also contributing with a clutch single to right field to score two runs was Ashley Tresky. On defense, the Lady Tigers turned in two more double plays, again putting the brakes on two different Fox Chapel rallies. The Lady Tigers will look to continue their winning ways this Sunday, October 10th, when they travel to Shaler at Reserve Elementary at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Come out and support our Lady Tigers. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS RALLY FOR SPLIT The Lady Tigers finished the weekend with a record of 4 - 2, splitting their doubleheader yesterday with North Hills. The Lady Tigers lost a hard fought, back-and-forth, first game by a score of 7 - 5. Leading the way on offense was Nia Parillo, who batted 3 - 3, while both Annie Altman and Ryanne Tyler batted 2 - 3. The second game provided the
Lady Tigers the opportunity to show their resilience and determination,
as they dominated North Hills by a score of 10 - 2. Ashley Tresky
pitched a near perfect game, with outstanding defensive plays turned in
by Colleen Henry, Ryanne Tyler, Allie Bliss, and
Brittany Hogg. On offense, Kim Wolfe led the team batting 3 -
3, with a single, a double, and a triple and 3 RBI's, and Ryanne Tyler
batted 2 - 3, hitting a home run and a single and 4 RBI's. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER
The Lady Tigers improved their
record to 3 - 1 yesterday by splitting their doubleheader with Fort
Cherry on Sunday. The Lady Tigers won the first game by a score of 15 - 6. Leading
the way on offense was Kim Wolfe with 2 home runs. Nia Parillo
and Julia Buffalini also contributed with doubles. On defense,
Nia Parillo delivered a dominant effort on the mound, with a great
supporting effort behind her in the field by her teammates.
