LADY TIGERS TOPPLE TITANS, 14-11

(4/28/12) North Allegheny snapped a five game losing streak with a 14-11 non-section win over the Shaler Titans on Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Tigers Rena Ferrara scored five goals and Christine Palmeri added another four markers to help lead the way to victory.  Palmeri also aided teammates with a pair of assists and was all over the field, hampering the Titans defensively as well.  For her efforts, Palmeri was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

Shaler struck for the early lead in the game on goals by Bethany Snider and Nellie Phillips for a 2-0 advantage.  The Tigers responded by scoring five of the next six goals, the last of which was a Paige Reynolds tally that gave NA a 5-3 lead with 9:04 left in the half.  The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the half as the Tigers took an 8-6 lead into halftime.  In the first 25 minutes, three players had already claimed hat tricks.  Ferrara and Palmeri posted a trio of goals apiece for the Tigers while Bethany Snider scored three of her own for the Titans.

To start the second half, Shaler narrowed the gap on Shannon Lynch's second goal of the game and NA's lead was trimmed to 8-7.  Similar to the action in the first half the Lady Tigers scored a flurry of goals, this time to blow open the game.  North Allegheny scored six of the next seven goals to balloon the lead to 14-8 with 9:10 to play.  Ferrara scored a pair  during the onslaught, while Palmeri, Sarah Hankins, Erin Keelan, and Yvonne Chick also hit the back of the Titans' net.  Shaler's Bethany Snider tried to single-handedly bring the Titans back in the final five minutes by score three goals, but the effort was too little, too late as the Tigers claimed a 14-11 victory.  NA goalie Becca Belko was solid and earned the win in net.

North Allegheny improves to 4-6 overall with the non-section win, while Shaler falls to 7-3.  The Lady Tigers are back in action on Monday night when they host the Fox Chapel Foxes at Newman Stadium.  The opening draw is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

LADY TIGERS FALL TO DEFENDING CHAMPS, 15-7

by Kathryn Ghion

The North Allegheny Lady Tigers faced a tough opponent in section play on Thursday night as they played host to the Seneca Valley Raiders. The Tigers were unable to overcome the Raiders quick scoring and fell 15-7 to their opponents. Seneca Valley started strong as Kelly Kundiff was able score the first goal making the score 1-0 early in the first half. The Raiders then tallied three more unanswered goals before North Allegheny would answer back.  After a time-out, the Tigers came out strong as senior Haley Pritchard scored the first goal for North Allegheny. They would then score two more goals coming from junior Christine Palmeri and freshman Julia Butteri midway through the first half. Seneca Valley rattled off a few more goals to make the score 9-3 at the half.

In the second half the Tigers struck first when Sarah Hankins, the Wright Automotive Player of the Game, made it 9-4 with 20 minutes left in the game.  Seneca would score two more goals before Palmeri cut the Raiders lead to 11-5. Unfortunately for the Tigers they wouldn’t score again until later in the half with two more goals from Hankins. Palmeri and Hankins paced the Tigers with two goals each. The Raiders were led by Morgan Midkiff with five goals.

The loss dropped North Allegheny to 3-2 in the conference and overall while Seneca Valley improves to 4-1 in section play. The Lady Tigers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Mount Lebanon for a non-conference match-up.
