PIAA CLASS AAA GIRLS VOLLEYBALL BRACKETS

NOLAN, LETO RECEIVE ALL-STATE LAURELS

(12/21/12) North Allegheny senior setter Maura Nolan and junior outside hitter Ashley Leto have been named to the PVCA All-State Girls Volleyball Team.  Nolan was the team leader in assists and Leto was a strong source for kills on the outside edge.  Both were key contributors to the Lady Tigers run to the WPIAL and PIAA Semifinals.

FIVE NA VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS
NAMED ALL-WPIAL

(12/4/12) Five Lady Tigers have been named to the All-WPIAL Girls Volleyball Team, including two First-Team members.  Senior setter Maura Nolan and junior outside hitter Ashley Leto earned First-Team laurels.  For Nolan, it's her second straight year as a First-Team member.  Sophomore middle hitter Meg Morningstar was selected to the Second-Team while senior libero Kristen Mitchell and junior outside hitter Danielle Wall received Third-Team honors.  All five players were critical to the Lady Tigers run to the WPIAL and PIAA semifinals.

LADY TIGERS LOSE JOUST WITH
BLACK KNIGHTS, 3-1, IN PIAA SEMIFINALS

(11/14/12) North Allegheny’s spectacular run through the PIAA Girls Volleyball Tournament came to an end on Tuesday night as District 3 Hempfield outlasted the Lady Tigers, 3-1, in the state semifinals. The Black Knights earned a trip to the PIAA championship match with set scores of 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, and 25-23.  After dropping the first two sets, the Lady Tigers mounted a terrific comeback bid that unfortunately fell just short.

Amongst the Tigers top performers, junior Ashley Leto led NA with 13 kills, followed closely behind by senior Ava Mosbacher who posted 10 kills.  Junior Erin Swarz and sophomore Meg Morningstar constructed a formidable wall in the middle, combining for 10 blocks on the night.  Defensively, Kristen Mitchell came up with 16 digs while senior setter Maura Nolan set up her teammates with 25 assists. 

North Allegheny, the Section 3 champions, finishes the season with a 19-4 record.  Hempfield will face District 11 champion Parkland in the PIAA championship on Saturday afternoon in York, PA.  Congratulations to the Lady Tigers for an outstanding 2012 season!

2012 WPIAL GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Tigers will compete again in Class AAA of the WPIAL along with 34 other teams.  Three (3) teams from each section will qualify for participation in WPIAL Championship play at the completion of the regular season. All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by the best section won/loss record. Teams that tie for first place will not have the tie broken as ALL of the tied teams will be declared section champions. Each team will receive a section winner’s plaque, and will be entered into the WPIAL tournament. If three (3) or more teams tie for first place, only those teams will qualify for the playoffs.

c) If the tie cannot clearly be broken, all tied teams will enter post-season play.
