NA ADVANCES TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

(10/23/12) The NA Boys and Girls Water Polo Teams have qualified for the Pennsylvania State Water Polo Championship playoffs.  NASH hosted this weekend's qualifying Western Conference Division playoffs.  The NA Boys repeated last week's undefeated performance at the Tiger Classic and won the Western Conference Division title.  They conquered Wilson HS in a decisive 18-10 victory, and then vanquished Cumberland Valley in an exhilarating 13-10 win that had the pool rocking.  This is the second week in a row that the NA Boys have defeated last year's state champ Cumberland Valley. That should set them up for a great outcome when they travel to North Penn on November 1-2 for the state finals.

The Girls team also did an amazing job even though they were down some players due to injuries.  They grabbed third place in the Western Conference Division by beating Hazelton 11-7 and Cumberland Valley 11-10; they lost to last year's second place state team, Wilson HS, by a score of 15-7. The Girls water polo team heads to the state finals at Cumberland Valley on Friday and Saturday and are eager to top last year's third place standing.

NA IMPRESSIVE, BOYS TEAM PERFECT AT TIGER CLASSIC

(10/14/12) Before an enthusiastic home crowd, the North Allegheny Boys Water Polo claimed the gold at the Tiger Classic this weekend with a perfect 4-0 record.  The Tigers rolled through McDowell and Napoleon on Friday night with wins of 13-8 and 13-6.  On Saturday, NA crushed Cathedral Prep, 12-3, to set up a showdown with the always tough Cumberland Valley Eagles.  North Allegheny edged the Eagles 3-2 in an exciting victory in the finals at the Tiger Classic.

The Lady Tigers also performed well at the home tournament finishing with a 3-2 showing.  The NA Girls topped McDowell, 10-5, and Napoleon, 13-10, for a pair of Friday night wins.  The Lady Tigers followed with a dominating win over 12-4 victory over Fairview before dropping two hard fought contests against Villa Maria and Cumberland Valley to end the tournament.

Following the Tiger Classic, the NA Boys maintain a record of 19-3 and the NA Girls hold a mark of 14-8.  Both squads will be in action this weekend at the Western Conference Championships.

NA BOYS DOMINATE AT McDOWELL TOURNAMENT

(10/2/12) The North Allegheny Boys’ Water Polo Team continued their strong start to the season with a perfect 4-0 performance at the McDowell Tournament over the weekend.  The Tigers topped McDowell in the tournament opener on Friday night, 15-12, and followed that up on Saturday with consecutive wins over Cathedral Prep, Wilson and Napoleon.  The Lady Tigers earned a split in their four games at McDowell.

Following the Friday night victory over McDowell, the NA Boys trounced Catherdral Prep, 11-5.  Sophomore Max Staresinic scored five goals in the victory and senior Rob Clinger added three more.  Staresinic also snatched up four steals and goalie Charles Ross posted 15 saves in the victory.  Against Wilson, the Tigers earned a 19-11 win behind a six goal effort by Staresinic and five more goals by Clinger.  In addition, seniors Steven Siclari and Alex Shaffer scored three goals apiece and Ross notched 14 saves to hold off a very good Wilson squad.  To round out the tournament, NA knocked off Napoleon by a 14-12 final thanks to a four goal performance by junior Gabe Gaspar.  Clinger, Siclari and Brendon Ryu each tallied two goals in the win.

The going was a bit tougher for the Lady Tigers at the tournament.  After a 9-7 win over Villa Maria on Friday, NA fell to Wilson and Upper Arlington back-to-back.  On Saturday, the Lady Tigers ended the tournament on a high note with an 8-4 win over McDowell.  In that victory, junior Mia Siclari led with four goals and freshman Esma Dollaku posted four steals for North Allegheny.

On the season, the NA Boys now sit at 15-3 and the Lady Tigers own a record of 11-6.  North Allegheny has this weekend off before hosting the Tiger Classic on October 12-13.

WATER POLO TEAMS REACH SEMIFINALS
AT BEAST OF THE EAST

(9/23/12) The North Allegheny Water Polo Teams made a good showing this weekend, both reaching the semifinals at the Beast of the East Invitational in Reading, PA.  The NA Boys and the Lady Tigers each posted marks of 3-1 at the tournament which typically displays some of the best squads in the state of Pennsylvania.

The NA Boys began the tournament on Friday night with a 13-5 victory over St. Benedict and a 13-11 win over Perkioman Valley.  In the win over St. Benedict, senior Rob Clinger led the way offensively with a five goal performance.  Seniors Dom Caputo and Ryan Peaton each added a pair of goals in the victory.   On Saturday, the Tigers earned a 9-7 victory over Calvert Hall in the tournament quarterfinals before falling to Greenwhich, 9-7, in the semifinals.  For the second straight week Greenwhich squeaked out a win over North Allegheny, just as they did last week at the Screamin’ Eagle Tournament in Cumberland Valley.  Despite the loss, Clinger notched three goals while Gabe Gaspar, Max Staresinic, Ben Michaels and Steven Siclari all scored goals as well.

The Lady Tigers posted similar results to the NA Boys team, earning a pair of wins on Friday night.  North Allegheny topped Perkioman Valley, 15-7, behind a three goal performance by junior Mia Siclari.  The Lady Tigers defense was particularly strong in the win as senior Allison Reid swiped five steals and junior Abi Rubio notched four steals.  In net, junior Kristen Bishop made 12 saves and collected three steals as well.  North Allegheny followed the win over Perkioman Valley with an 11-7 victory over Hazleton.  Siclari and Esma Dollaku led offensively with three goals apiece.

On Saturday morning, the Lady Tigers edged Thomas Worthington, 6-5, for a tight quarterfinal victory.  Reid led with three goals while Bishop posted seven saves and five steals to help NA to the win.   In the semifinals, Wilson handled North Allegheny by an 11-3 final.  Dollaku, Morgan Soulia and Claire Washabaugh all scored goals for the Lady Tigers.

Following the Beast of the East, the NA Boys improve to 11-3 on the season.  The Lady Tigers hold a record of 9-4 for the campaign.  The North Allegheny Water Polo Team will be back in action again this weekend at the McDowell Tournament in Erie, PA.
