Minutes of February 26, 2007 Cheerleading Booster Meeting

The minutes from the January 8th meeting were approved by Julie Hailstone and seconded by Diane Thumma.

Old Business

The UCA Nationals was a great experience for the girls.  Everything was well planned out and the girls were kept very busy.  Everything was organized in advance from the parks the girls visited to their meals.  The Sunday performance prior to Nationals was a big hit too.  Since many people from the different school were not going to Florida with their daughter’s team they were very excited to see the girls perform at home.  Kim and Gayle did a great job on the bake sale.  We were able to cover some of the cost for food for our girls at Nationals because of the money we made from the bake sale.  The good luck at Nationals candy bars were great to hand out to all the teams – thank you Anthea and Patti for doing that.

We do have some cookie dough left.  If anyone is interested in buying any please contact Sandy.

New Business

The tryout meeting is not yet known yet.  It will be posted on the web site once it is decided.  The board position descriptions will be given out at this meeting and the new board will be decided at the 1st booster meeting.

The Banquet invitations were beautiful – thanks to Tammy and M.J.

Mini Camp will be headed up by Diane Thumma and Marilyn Wagner.  They plan on having a separate meeting after the banquet to get people involved on committees.

Mary Collins from Ingomar Middle School spoke to the group on bridging the gap between the 9 – 12th grade boosters and Middle School.  This year the three middle schools have tried to do some of the same things to keep things uniform.  The middle schools all ordered the same bags, sweat suites, and bows styles in an effort to keep them consisted with each other.  Mary talked about how it can be very difficult for 8th grade parents to get all the information that would help their girls prepare for high school cheerleading.  Mary suggested in allowing the middle school families to join the boosters using a sliding scale for the cost.  She thought this may encourage the parents to attend the booster meetings and be a little better informed about how cheerleading works in the high school years.  Also, the cheerleaders pay a considerable amount of money to use the athletic web site and since we put many pictures from middle school events on the site it would help defer the cost of the site.

The boosters discussed Mary’s request and a motion was made to allow a rep from each middle school to attend the booster meetings to listen and report back to their middle schools any necessary information.  These reps would not have voting privileges.  There would be no cost to these reps or any other middle school member for this.  The motion was made by Amy and seconded by Julie.  A vote was taken and it passed.

Reps

Varsity – still collecting pictures for posters.  Wednesday we will be collecting the uniforms by the ticket office.  All of the girl’s uniform pieces will be put in the old bags and stored until after tryouts.  If the girls make the team – they will get their same bags back with their last year uniform pieces.

JV – collecting uniforms and picture for the poster

Freshmen – poster is done and collecting uniforms.  Kami, Courtenay and Dana will be having a few practices for the girls to work on their jumps and motions.

Clothing – All the girls will have the same shoes for next year, what shoe that will be is yet to be decided.

Treasurer – Banquet budgets will be talked about at the banquet meeting.

UBO – Seniors were provided with the scholarships that qualify for.  The list of scholar awards for the banquet is still being verified.

Sandy thanked everyone for all their hard work this year on the many committees and board positions.  She said this was such a positive experience and it was because of all the hard work from all the wonderful volunteers.
