Minutes of October 23, 2006 Cheerleading Booster Meeting

The minutes from the September 25th meeting were approved by Julie Hailstone and seconded by Vivian Wallace.

Old Business

Thank you to Diane Thumma for all her hard work on a successful Homecoming.  Thank you to Sue Costello and Jane Marroni for a great Senior Night, the gifts for the girls were great.  Thank you to Patti Amos for the invitations for the Senior Night.  Joanne LePere called to thank the girls for the wonderful job they did on decorating the lockers for the seniors.

New Business

There was discussion on having the NA Cheerleaders participate in a community service project.  One of the parents has a connection with the Women’s Shelter and is looking into having the girls get together to serve a meal before the holidays.  Any mother that would like to participate is welcome.  More details will follow.

The competition schedule is on line and there are no changes to this schedule at this time.  They may add to this current competition list.

We are looking at having the banquet at Wildwood Country Club.  We need to put together a committee and start thinking about dates.  Everyone needs to look at the calendar to get this added.

UBO – Nothing to Report

Freshmen – Joanne said the Freshmen are planning a little shower for Dana when she comes back.  Joanne mentioned that any freshmen that wanted to purchase an NA headband for the cold games could for $5.

Treasurer – For any fundraiser that the athletes participate in, Rose asked that each athlete collect their money and write one check for everything to turn into her.

Fundraising  - There are many fundraisers that you can participate in to help with the costs of Nationals and competition fees.

Sue - Crystal T-shirts

Anthea – Organized the Dine and Donate with Eat n Park from Nov. 6th – 26th.  This is for all three Eat n Parks in this area.  We get 10% of the check donated to the cheerleaders when you present the coupon upon paying your check.

Linda C. and Marilyn W. will be doing the Cookie Dough fundraiser.  Turn around time is about two weeks.

Kim H. sent out all the information out for anyone who wants to participate in the Betsy Ann fundraiser.

Motion – Everyone received Mrs. Henry’s motion via email.  There was some question about why the board was allowed to vote to pay for ˝ of the new uniforms for Varsity and J.V. this year and it wasn’t voted on by all the Booster members.   The coaches requested the new uniforms for Varsity and J.V. and presented this to Mr. Buzzuto over the summer.  Mr. Buzzuto came to the Boosters to see if they could pay for some of the uniform cost.  The board voted to pay for ˝ and the Athletic Department paid for the other ˝.   The uniforms needed to be ordered over the summer so the girls would have them for the new school year.  The old uniforms were given to the middle schools. The money used to pay for the Varsity and J.V. uniforms came from the mini camp that the girls worked.  The board thought it was important that these girls benefit from the money they worked to make.

There was a question about the girls having to pay for tumbling classes.  For the Varsity and the J.V. Athletes these fees are billed to them from the boosters for the entire school year.  The fee is $75 for the entire school year of tumbling.  The boosters then pay Dana these fees in one check.  It was mentioned by a booster member that this is extremely reasonable compared to what other sports are expected to pay for.   It was also mentioned that if the girls are having trouble with their tumbling, Dana allows them to jump in another class for extra tumbling.  It was clear at tryout time that these teams would be going to competitions.  To be competitive at these competitions the girls need to be able to tumbling well.

Patti Mihalopoulos made a motion to keep the By-Laws how they are, that the Board Members can vote on spending amounts over $100.  This is the same way the other booster organizations operate at NA.  This was seconded by Mary Lotz and Marilyn Wagner.

The next meeting will be Monday, Dec. 4th at 7:00pm NAI.
