Tigers Edge Mt. Lebanon, 4-3

North Allegheny built a 3-1 lead by the second period and held on for a 4-3 victory over the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils on Monday night at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale. The win was the first of the young season for the Tigers and pushed NA into second place in the Class AAA standings.

Aaron Miller and Will Parreaguire netted first period goals to give North Allegheny a quick 2-0 lead. Mt. Lebanon eventually answered with a goal by Luke Husak with just 1:37 left in the period to cut the score to 2-1, Tigers.

In the second period, Vincenzo Mazur tallied a goal at the 8:12 mark of the period to expand the NA lead to 3-1. Mt. Lebanon’s Brandon Williams scored less than a minute later to trim the deficit back to one goal at 3-2, North Allegheny. The Tigers answered back to expand the lead to 4-2 when Vincent Abel scored off a feed from Bernardo Vieria with 4:30 left in the second period.

North Allegheny’s two-goal lead stood until a late interference call was made against Miller. Mt. Lebanon cashed in on the power play with 1:21 remaining in the game on a goal by Matthew Vines to cut the score to 4-3. The Tigers and goalie Richard Karapandi staved off the Blue Devils’ late rally for the one-goal victory. Karapandi finished with 26 saves to earn the win. Mt. Lebanon goalie John Murray stopped 22 pucks in a losing effort.

North Allegheny improves to 1-0 with 1 OTL. Mt. Lebanon falls to 1-2 on the season. The Tigers host Canon-McMillan on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
