Costa Hat Trick Propels Tigers Past Foxes

North Allegheny ice hockey kept the winning ways rolling after a 5-1 win over Fox Chapel Thursday night at the Alpha Ice Complex.

NA opened the scoring about seven minutes into the contest. Senior Alex Costa cashed in on a power play goal assisted by fellow senior Joey Mitchell. NA lead 1-0 after one frame.

Costa struck on a second power play about eight minutes into the second period, assisted by freshman Cole Maier and senior Eddie Scherer. Senior Kyle Imm made it a 3-0 game in the late stages of the period, assisted by Mitchell and Scherer. Fox Chapel’s Tucker Cullen scored in the final minute of the second to trim the NA lead to 3-1 after two stanzas.

Costa completed the hat trick on an unassisted shorthanded goal less than three minutes into the third. Junior Luke Direnzo added an insurance marker about 14 minutes into the final period, assisted by juniors Anthony Lucas and Brady Hornyak.

Sophomore goalie Chris Costa made 16 saves in the win.

North Allegheny improves to 3-0 on the young season with two games next week. First, the Tigers travel to Southpointe to take on the Peters Township Indians from Printscape Arena Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m. NA is back home two days later for a 9:00 p.m. game against Franklin Regional from the Baierl Ice Complex Thursday night at 9:00.
