Blue Devils Best Tigers In Shootout

The North Allegheny ice hockey team traveled to the Mt. Lebanon Ice Center to take on the Blue Devils on Thursday night. Lebo came away with the victory in a shootout, 4-3.

Mt. Lebanon scored the lone goal of the first period just about three minutes into the contest. William White was credited with the marker at even strength, assisted by Graham Resler.

NA notched back-to-back goals to take the lead in the second period. Senior Ed Scherer scored short-handed less than three minutes into the frame, assisted by fellow senior Alex Costa.  Senior Joey Mitchell scored unassisted on the power play about five minutes later.

The Blue Devils regained the lead less than 20 seconds into the third period on a Xavier Bias goal, assisted by William White and William Varholla. Bias tallied his second of the evening on the power play five minutes later, assisted by Cameron Mayer and Nathan Tran. Senior Kyle Imm found the equalizer with less than five minutes left in regulation, assisted by Costa and Mitchell.

No teams scored in the overtime period, but Mt. Lebanon took care of business in the shootout. Bias gave the Blue Devils the early advantage before junior Anthony Lucas tied it up in the second round. Resler scored in the third round to secure the Lebo victory.

Sophomore netminder Chris Costa made 19 saves in his first loss of the season.

North Allegheny is now 5-2 on the season and is back in action next Thursday night for a road matchup with Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m.
