Tigers finish runner-up at Chartiers-Houston Invitational

The North Allegheny boys wrestling team traveled to Chartiers-Houston High School on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Chartiers-Houston Invitational. NA finished with two gold medals, a bronze medal, two fourth-place finishes, a fifth-place finish and two sixth-place finishes to finish with 226 points, enough to finish second out of 31 teams. Moon claimed the team title posting 231 points.

Griffen Reid had a dominant weekend defeating Bryan Taylor of Elizabeth Forward by fall, Tyler Barton from Bedford by tech fall, Caleb Patton of Washington by a 7-3 decision and Rook Smith from Montour by a 7-5 decision to get to the championship match at 152 pounds. In the championship match, Reid tech falled Angelo Mele of host Chartiers-Houston to claim the gold medal.

Bradyn McConneha breezed to the championship match at 285 pounds defeating Keegan Volland of South Side, Lennon Miller from Freedom and Landon Heath of Jefferson-Morgan all by fall. In the championship match, McConneha took down Colin Whyte of West Greene by a 7-2 decision to claim the title.

Evan Schomburg made it look easy in his first three matches defeating Nate Dickey of Butler and Cooper McGee by fall and taking down Asher Lucas by tech fall to get to the semifinals. Schomburg would drop his match in the semifinals before defeating Ben Goehring of Mars in the consolation semifinals to get to the third-place match. Schomburg would make quick work of North Catholic’s Victor Wagner in the third-place match pinning him in 36 seconds.

Joey Synan got a first-round bye at 107 pounds. He defeated Tristan Esken of Moon by tech fall before falling in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Synan defeated Gabe Green of Peters Township by a 4-1 decision, Daniel Stefko out of Maryland 7-0, before dominating Austin Grandel of Jefferson-Morgan by tech fall. Synan fell in the third-place match to end his weekend with a fourth-place finish.

Myles Hoover won his opening match by fall over Nick Grant of Burgettstown before getting tripped up in the second round. Hoover would fight all the way through the consolation bracket defeating Jay Carroll of Hampton by major decision, Chaney Shawl from Ringgold and Zackary Shiring of Freedom by tech fall, pinning James Dulaney of Thomas Jefferson and winning against Noah Collins of West Greene by forfeit to get to the third-place match. In the third-place match, Hoover fell to Evan Sala of Mt. Lebanon to come away with a fourth-place finish.

Dalton Stragand won his first match by fall against Tristian Young from Ringgold before claiming a 12-11 decision over Kayden Braun of Freedom. Stragand would fall in the quarterfinals before defeating Karsten Kirchner of Moon and Kamden Stamm from Chartiers-Houston in the consolation bracket. Stragand would fall in the consolation semifinals before defeating Alex Medlen of Beth-Center, 7-5 in the fifth-place consolation match.

Gus Stedeford made a good run in the championship bracket winning his first two matches by fall over Shaun Murphy Jr. from North Hills and Peyton Garove from Chartiers-Houston. He would win his quarterfinal match by 4-0 decision over Peter Leventis from South Fayette before losing in the semifinals. Stedeford would go 0-2 in the consolation bracket to finish the weekend in sixth-place.

Brody Barnhart got a first-round bye before winning by tech fall against Jason Murray of Burgettstown. Barnhart would claim an 8-7 decision over Archi Collins from Montour before falling in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Barnhart would win 4-1 decisions over both Santo Cerminaro of North Hills and Grant Koontz from Bedford before falling in the consolation semifinals. Barnhart would fall in the fifth-place match to finish the weekend in sixth.

Bryce Prosser, Brody Magorien, Gabe Hernandez and Sam Vargo went 3-2 on the weekend. Charles Miller went 2-2 while Andrew Miller, Nolan Orlando, Denis Tysbuk and Hank Miller went 1-2. Daniel Willow and Austin Mays also competed over the weekend.
