Second quarter dooms NA against New Castle
North Allegheny traveled to New Castle High School to take on the Red Hurricanes on Monday night in a Section 1-6A matchup. New Castle had a big second quarter that ultimately did the Tigers in who fell by a score of 64-49.
Ben Coffman hit two three-pointers in the first quarter and NA was in it after one trailing 19-15. The Red Hurricanes defense came to life in the second quarter outscoring North Allegheny 19-2 and the Tigers trailed 38-17 at halftime.
NA continued to fight in the third quarter getting seven points from Bobby Dopirak but still trailed 53-33 going into the fourth quarter. North Allegheny would outscore New Castle 16-11 in the final frame but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell 64-49.
Coffman finished with 11 points. Dopirak, Jahlil Archer and Blake Craft all finished with nine points.
North Allegheny falls to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the section. New Castle improves to 12-0 overall and 7-0 in section play. The Tigers return to action on Friday when they travel to Butler to start the second half of section play.
