Boys Basketball drops tough contest to Wolverines
North Allegheny headed east to Woodland Hills High School to do battle with the Wolverines on Friday night. In an important Section 1-6A contest, the Tigers dropped a tough 40-37 contest against Woodland Hills.
The shots were falling early for NA as they jumped out to a 15-11 lead after a quarter of play. The Tigers expanded the lead early in the second quarter to 23-14 but the Wolverines made a run and the score was tied 25-25 at halftime.
It was a physical, defensive struggle in the third quarter as neither team could get the offense going. North Allegheny did just enough offensively to have a 32-30 lead going into the fourth quarter. Things remained tight in the final frame but Woodland Hills controlled the pace for much of the fourth quarter. The Tigers had multiple opportunities to tie or take the lead from the free throw line late in the game but ultimately fell 40-37.
Ben Coffman led the way for NA with 10 points.
North Allegheny falls to 7-12 overall and 3-9 in Section 1-6A. Woodland Hills improves to 10-10 and 6-6 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Sunday when they travel to the Carey Center at Saint Vincent College to take on Franklin Regional as a part of the Shootout at Saint Vincent. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
