
Slow Start Dooms Tigers in 69-59 defeat against Butler
A slow start for the Tigers on the road led to a 69-59 defeat against Butler, Tuesday night at Butler High School Gymnasium.
With an energetic home crowd behind them, the Golden Tornado shot the ball very well from the field scoring the first 11 points of the game. Kyrell Hutcherson was able to get the scoring started halfway through the first quarter with a 3-pointer and the Tigers settled in from there and was able to get the deficit down to single digits at the end of the first quarter at 19-10. The momentum continued into the second quarter for North Allegheny as they started the quarter on a 9-2 run cutting the lead all the way down to two at 21-19 but Butler would bounce back and get the lead back up to eight, and led 37-29 at halftime.
It was another fast start for the Golden Tornado in the third quarter as they scored the first six points of the quarter and had their largest lead of the game at 14 points. North Allegheny was able to rally to finish the quarter once again and trailed 48-43 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Tigers continued their push and got their first lead of the game at 54-53 when Matt McDonough got fouled behind the arc and hit two of three from the line. The lead didn’t last long as Butler’s Devin Carney responded with a 3-pointer of his own giving Butler back the lead that they would never give up from there, finishing off a 69-59 victory.
Ty Iwanonkiw led the way for the Tigers with 14 points. McDonough had 13 points and Hutcherson pitched in 10. Carney led Butler with 37 points.
North Allegheny falls to 13-7 overall and 4-7 in section play. Butler improves to 11-8 overall and finishes section play with a 5-7 record. One more section game for North Allegheny as they will take on top-ranked North Hills at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. This game will be broadcasted live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
