Nick Klein inks Colgate for college

North Allegheny swimmer Nick Klein inked his national letter of intent to continue his swimming career at Colgate University on Thursday afternoon.
In the 2024-2025 season, Klein dominated the 500-yard freestyle as he consistently placed first in the event in most dual meets. Klein finished in 11th place in the 500-yard freestyle at the WPIAL Championships while also placing 12th in the 50-yard freestyle.
Klein is joining a Raider team that competes in the Patriot League. He will major in neuroscience at Colgate.
NA Boys win first state title since 2019; Girls place fourth

The North Allegheny swimming & diving team concluded their season over the weekend at the PIAA Championships hosted by Bucknell University. The boys’ team won it’s first state championship since the 2018-2019 season (the third of three in a row) and seventh overall while the NA girls finished in fourth place.
The NA boys finished with 215 points, 53 points ahead of runner-up LaSalle College. On Friday, the North Allegheny 200-yard Medley Relay of Danny Lesinski, Gus Miller, Mason Shantz and Dylan Seiford finished in fourth place. Lesinski took the bronze medal in the 200-yard IM. Grant Regule finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle while Miller came in third in the 100-yard butterfly. The Tigers’ 200-yard freestyle relay was the lone individual state champions on the weekend winning the event by 1.2 seconds behind Regule, Miller, Shantz and Zachary Totin. Regule started Saturday with an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle for NA. Lesinski won the silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke while Miller was .13 seconds behind him to take bronze. In the diving portion of the event, Ethan Maravich collected 16 team points taking home the bronze medal with a score of 493.70. For complete boys diving results, click here.
The NA girls ended the weekend with 171 points. Upper Dublin took home the team state title. On Friday, the 200-yard medley relay team of Dani Hinkson, Tori Tieppo, Eva Ogden and Madden Woycheck finished in seventh place. Claire Bacu claimed silver in the 200-yard freestyle while Ogden, Julianne Weaver, Woycheck and Bacu had a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. On Saturday, Bacu collected another silver medal coming in second in the 500-yard freestyle. Julia Tengowski finished fourth in the event. Swimming & Diving sweep WPIAL team titles for third straight year

The North Allegheny swimming & diving team traveled to Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh to compete in the WPIAL Championships on Thursday and Friday. For the third consecutive season, the boys and girls teams both took home WPIAL gold. It is the 17th consecutive WPIAL championship for the NA girls while the NA boys have now won 11 WPIAL titles in the last 14 years.
The North Allegheny girls finished with 415 points, 109 points ahead of runner-up Fox Chapel. The quartet of Dani Hinkson, Tori Tieppo, Eva Ogden and Madden Woycheck claimed WPIAL gold in the 200-yard medley relay to get things going with a time of 1:45.40. Claire Bacu was the silver medalist in the 200-yard freestyle with Julia Tengowski coming in fourth. Hinkson would collect her second gold medal of the day winning the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.72 while Tieppo was fifth in the event and Emma Dietz finished in ninth. Woycheck finished in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle. Ogden placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly while Angelina Li was the seventh-place finisher. The North Allegheny 200-yard freestyle relay consisting of Julianne Weaver, Ogden, Woycheck and Bacu won the silver medal. In the 100-yard freestyle, Ogden finished in sixth place with Woycheck right behind her in seventh. Bacu claimed the 500-yard freestyle title in 4:54.94 with Tengowski taking silver. Li and Hinkson placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 100-yard backstroke. Tieppo was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with Sundgren taking sixth in the event. Bacu, Evey Masztak, Hinkson and Tengowski finished the day as silver medalists in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The NA boys ended the event with 395.50 points, defeating second-place Upper St. Clair by 168.5 points. The Tigers started the day with a silver medal in the 200-yard medley relay. Danny Lesinski, Gus Miller, Mason Shantz and Dylan Seiford composed the team. Lesinski won bronze in the 200-yard IM while Emmanuel Chu placed ninth. Grant Regule was the third-place finisher in the 50-yard freestyle. Seiford finished in 10th place in the event. Gus Miller claimed 100-yard butterfly gold with a time of 49.71. Zachary Totin and Mason Shantz came in fifth and 10th place respectively. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Regule, Miller, Shantz and Totin won the WPIAL title with a time of 1:23.01. Regule and Totin put together good performances in the 100-yard freestyle taking silver and bronze respectively while Seiford came in ninth place and Shantz finished 10th. Miller placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with Lesinski finishing fifth, Brendan Yatchenko came in seventh and Odin Hsu placed 10th. Chu finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke. NA finished the day with Lesinski, Regule, Alex Harbaugh and Totin claiming WPIAL gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Tigers now turn their attention to the state level as they will travel to Bucknell University to compete in the PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships. This will take place Wednesday, March 12 through Saturday, March 15 with events beginning at 8:00 a.m. each day.
Maggie Lapina & Ethan Maravich claim gold at WPIAL Diving Championships

North Allegheny was at the comfort of their own home for the WPIAL Diving Championships on Saturday. The Tigers looked comfortable on the boards as well as they took home WPIAL gold on the girls and boys sides as Maggie Lapina and Ethan Maravich won their respective titles.
On the girls side, Lapina posted a 477.80, 10 points better than Mya Lee of Mars in second place. This was the sixth straight season a Tiger won WPIAL gold in girls diving. Juliet Hood was the bronze medalist with a score of 430.35. Leah Maiolo finished the day in 12th place scoring 369.75. The Tigers picked up 41 team points heading into the WPIAL Swimming Championships next week.
For the boys, Maravich finished with a score of 532.30, defeating second place Jackson Hagler of Fox Chapel by 17 points. Maravich is the fourth NA boys diver to win WPIAL gold since 1980. Anthony Farrah finished in fifth place posting a 461.05. Colin Metzger scored a 345.15 to finish in 10th place and Nathan Rae finished in 13th place scoring 290.00. NA has 45 points as a team going into the WPIAL Swimming Championships.

The Tigers return to action on Friday when they compete in the WPIAL Swimming Championship at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. Swimming should start around 9:45 a.m.
16 Tigers make WPIAL cut at Last Ditch Invitational

It was time to set aside our rivalries and cheer for everyone on Saturday as North Allegheny hosted Last Ditch. Swimmers from across the region came together for one last chance at a WPIAL cut. 24 swimmers made the time, with 16 coming from NA’s own.
With a roaring crowd, the 200 Freestyle saw NA Girls Eva Ogden and Maddie George both make the cut with a 1:58.33 and 2:02.03 respectively. NA’s Nate Hilbert also got the cut with a 1:50.24.
In the 200IM, Brianna Reinhart came under the wire with a nail biting 2:19.66.
For the 50 Free, the girls had 2 photo finish qualifiers, Shelby Sundgren with a 25.98 and Lorelai Quinet with an on the nose 26 flat. Tori Tieppo just missed by .1 (can we get a soft touch!) with a 26.1. The NA boys Emmanuel Chu made it with a solid 22.94.
The 100 Fly saw 3 NA Girls Emma Dietz, Ashley Swartz, and Brianna Reinhart all just miss by tenths.
Back to Freestyle, the 100 was Tori Tieppo’s redemption making the cut with a 55.90. Shelby Sundgren with a 56.26 for the girls and Brandon Yatchenko with a 50.19
The grueling 500 Freestyle saw Kieran Yeakel go the distance and qualify with a 5:30.68.
For the 100 Backstroke, both Evey Masztak 1:01.98 and Emma Dietz 1:02.92 got their cuts.
The 100 Breaststroke rounded out the meet with NA Girls Julia Tengowski 1:13.20 and Natalie Reubi1:13.34 making a wpial time. For the boys, Matthew Lindblad swam a 1:04.11 to qualify.

North Allegheny Sweeps North Hills; Finishes Regular Season Undefeated

The Tigers celebrated senior night in sweeping fashion, defeating North Hills 105-73 for the girls, and 109-69 for the boys, as both teams finished the season with 10-0 records.
North Allegheny started strong, as both teams swept the diving events.
Juliet Hood (293.50), Maggie Lapina (283.25), and Emily Dimond (184.35) were the top three on the girls side. Ethan Maravich (286.60), Anthony Farrah (258.10), and Colin Metzger (210.95) finished as the top trio for the boys.
All told in the victory over the Indians, including exhibition swimming events, the Tigers posted eleven sweeps.
In the 200-medlay relay, Claire Bacu, Tori Tieppo, Dani Hinkson, and Madden Woycheck were the top team with a time of 1:52.18. The top boys finishers were the team of Gus Miller, Grant Regule, Nicholas Klein, and Odin Hsu with a time of 1:40.12.
Shelby Sundgren (2:01.00) and Kieran Yeakel (2:07.84) placed first and third for the girls in the 200 freestyle, and Alex Harbaugh (1:48.93), Mason Shantz (1:53.70) and Tabari Morgan (1:56.48) posted the first sweep of the night on the boys side.
In the 200-IM, Julianne Weaver (2:18.81) and Brianna Reinhart (2:19.72) were first and third in the girls race. Danny Lesinski (1:57.27), Regule (2:01.65) and Dylan Seiford (2:08.28) swept for the boys.
The girls got their first sweep in the 50 free, with Eva Zilinski (25.90), Kate Dudro (26.07) and Leah Laughlin (26.14) finishing as the top three. The top two swimmers for the boys were Miller (21.74) and Klein (22.51).
North Allegheny posted a pair of sweeps in the 100-fly. Tieppo (1:02.82), Emma Dietz (1:03.98) and Alyssa Reinhart (1:05.39) won for the girls. For the boys, Harbaugh (54.76), Talon Xing (56.70) and Jackson Ross (56.92) were the top three.
In the 100 free events, Lorelai Quinet (56.35) and Dudro (57.24) were the top two on the girls side, with Shantz (49.28), Hsu (49.55) and Brendan Yatchenko (51.16) sweeping for the boys.
In the 500 freestyle, Julia Tengowski (5:27.28) and Shea Mahon (5:29.98) were the top two swimmers. Klein (4:54.18), Max Thirkell (5:07.84) and Zachary Totin (5:22.66) swept the boys race.
The 200 freestyle relays were both Tiger wins. The team of Weaver, Eva Ogden, Woycheck and Bacu were victorious with a time of 1:35.43. More on this quartet in a bit.
Regule, Miller, Xing and Yatchenko won the boys relay in 1:28.94.
It was exhibition racing from here on out for the Tigers.
Dietz (1:04.08) and Maddie George (1:07.64) were first and third in the 100 back, with Dylan Thyen (57.40), Ryan Crane (58.03) and Matthew Linblad (1:03.62) sweeping the boys event.
Laughlin (1:14.98) finished second in the girls 100 breaststroke, with Miller (1:01.02), Lesinski (1:01.75) and Chu (1:02.09) sweeping on the boys side.
North Allegheny finished out the meet with a pair of sweeps in the 400 free relays. Sundgren, Natalie Reubi, Zilinski and Tengowski (3:49.43) and Nate Hilbert, Lesinski, Shantz and Totin (3:20.19) were the final winners on the evening for the Tigers.
Congratulations to the following Tigers seniors: Lola Malarky, Juliet Hood, Shea Mahon, Brianna Reinhart, Julianne Weaver, Nicholas Klein, Gus Miller, and Grant Regule. With the exception of Malarky, who is injured, those twelfth graders will be in search of a 17th straight WPIAL Girls Championship, a third consecutive Boys Championship and some individual diving medals later this month.
The Wright Automotive Players of the Meet for each team were awarded to Dillon Thyen for the boys, while the girls award was a team effort.
In addition to participating in the 200-yard medley and the 400 free relays, Thyen’s win in the 100 backstroke was a personal best time.
For the senior Julianne Weaver, and juniors Eva Ogden, Madden Woycheck and Claire Bacu, their winning time in the 200-freestyle relay was a pool record at North Allegheny.

The WPIAL AAA Diving Championships are scheduled for Saturday February 22 at North Allegheny. The WPIAL Swimming Championships will be held February 27th and 28th at Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh.
NA breaks several pool records at Pine-Richland

What do you bring your hosts for your last away meet? Lots of pool records of course! The NA Girls and Boys swim teams broke several at Pine Richland last night starting with both 200 Medley Relays! We are strong alone but unstoppable together.
The N.A. divers also had an impressive outing at Pine Richland. For the girls, Maggie Lapina scored first with 264.50 points followed by Emily Dimond and Shreeya Kulkarni. For the boys, Ethan Maravich scored first with 257.50 points followed by Anthony Farrah at 235.10 and Colin Metzger at 209.90.
Coming out on fire, the NA Girls took 1st Pl with the winning team of Angelina Li, Tori, Tieppo, Eva Ogden, and Madden Woycheck setting a Pool Record 1:48.64. Taking the torch, the NA Boys also took 1st PL in the medley relay with the top group of Danny Lesinski, Gus Miller, Zachary Totin, and Grant Regule also smashing a pool record with a 1:34.18.
The 200 Freestyle, NA girls went 1st, 3rd, and 4th Pl. NA’s winner was Claire Bacu with a 1:52.05. The NA boys went 1st, 2nd, and 4th PL. The boys’ winner was Emmanuel Chu with a 1:49.25.
For the 200 IM, the NA girls took 3rd, 4th, and 5th Pl. NA Girls best swimmer was Emma Dietz with a 2:13.32. The NA boys grabbed 1st and 3rd. The boys’ winner was Brendan Yatchenko, who swam a 2:00.64.
Sprinting the 50 Freestyle, NA girls posted a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Pl. The Tigers’ fastest girl, Madden Woycheck posted a smoking PB time of 24.55. The NA boys grabbed 1st, 3rd, and 4th Pl. NA’s winner was Dylan Seiford with a time of 22.53.
The 100 Butterfly had the NA girls placing 1st, 3rd, and 4th. NA’s winner was Dani Hinkson with a time of 57.88. The boys crushed it with a 1st, 2nd, and 5th Pl. NA’s star Gus Miller broke the pool record with a PB 50.73.
In the 100 Freestyle, the NA girls swept 1st, 2nd, 3rd Pl. NA Girls winner Claire Bacu outtouched everyone with a 52.55. The NA boys took 1st, 2nd, and 4th Pl. The Tiger boys winner was Danny Lesinski with a 47.63.
The 500 Freestyle saw NA girls come in 2nd, 3rd, and 6th Pl. NA’ best swimmer was Evey Masztak bringing home a PB 5:17.42. The NA boys grabbed 1st and 2nd Pl. The boys’ winner was Jackson Ross also with a PB 4:54.07.
With great teamwork, the 200 Free Relay was won by both the NA Girls and Boyst. The girls group of Claire Bacu, Madden Woycheck, Julianne Weaver, and Eva Ogden finished at 1:37.97. The NA boys dominated with Danny Lesinski, Gus Miller, Grant Regule, and Dylan Seiford breaking another pool record, swimming a 1:26.98.
In the 100 backstroke, the NA girls swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd PL. The girls winner was Angelina Li with the time of 1:01.04. After breaking enough records, the boys went into exhibition. NA’s fastest swimmer was Brendan Yatchenko with a 54.86
Not to be outdone the girls went into exhibition as well. The 100 breaststroke saw Tori Tieppo swim a 1:09.28 for the girls and Gus Miller record a 59.37 for the boys.
Finishing the night with the 400 freestyle relay, the NA girls fastest team of Julia Tengowski, Dani Hinkson, Claire Bacu, and Julianne Weaver finished with a time of 3:41.46. The boys fastest team of Danny Lesinski, Dylan Seiford, Jackson Ross, and Zachary Totin clocked a time of 3:19.60.
