Boys Basketball upended in battle with Indians

North Allegheny hosted the North Hills Indians in the second game of a girls/boys doubleheader on Friday night at UPMC Court. After a closely contested first half, the Indians pulled away in the second half, defeating the Tigers, 77-65.

The first quarter was frenetically paced but very competitive as neither team could get more than a two-possession lead. North Hills had the biggest lead of the opening frame at 20-14 and led 25-20 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Indians got the lead up to 28-21 before NA made a move. The Tigers took the lead at 34-33, but North Hills quickly took it back, leading at the half 35-34.

Similar to the girls’ game, the second half was all Indians. With North Hills leading 39-38, the Indians went on an 8-2 run to make the score 47-40 and had a 53-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final frame, North Hills got its first double-digit lead of the game at 64-52 and never looked back, coasting to a 77-65 victory.

Will Robertson had 19 points off the bench for the Tigers. For his efforts, Robertson was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Blake Craft and Ben Coffman each had 11 points.

North Allegheny falls to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in section play. North Hills improves to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the section. The Indians now sit alone in second place. The Tigers return to action on Monday when they travel to New Castle for a 7 p.m. tip-off. New Castle sits in first place with an undefeated record.
