Boys Wrestling finishes section play unbeaten
North Allegheny hosted the Butler Golden Tornado on Wednesday night at UPMC Court in the section finale. For the third consecutive year, the Tigers finished section play undefeated with a 47-27 win over Butler. NA hasn’t lost a section match since January 11, 2023 against the Golden Tornado running their section win streak to 15 matches.
Joseph Synan and Bryce Prosser got the night started with pins to give North Allegheny 12-0 lead. Butler would bounce back to get a major decision but Evan Schomburg claimed another pin to make the score 18-4. The Golden Tornado would win the 133-pound bout by tech fall before Gus Stedeford won his match by tech fall and the Tigers led 23-9. Butler got a pin at 145 pounds but Griffen Reid responded with a pin of his own to keep the NA lead at 29-15. After another Golden Tornado pin at 160 pounds, Brody Barnhart and Sam Vargo each collected wins by fall to expand the North Allegheny lead to 41-21. Butler got one final pin at 215 pounds before Bradyn McConneha claimed a forfeit win to give the Tigers a 47-27 victory.
Stedeford was named the Wright Automotive Wrestler of the Match for his dominant 18-3 tech fall win over Mason Swidzinski.
North Allegheny improves to 10-1 overall and finish section play with a 4-0 record. Butler falls to 2-7 overall and finish out their section portion of the schedule at 1-3. The Tigers now await their playoff fate with the WPIAL boys wrestling committee meeting tomorrow. The WPIAL Team First Round will begin next Wednesday.
