Butler’s Connor Bachman scored the game-winning goal at 1:28 of overtime to lift the Golden Tornado over the North Allegheny Tigers on Monday night, 4-3. It was the first overtime game for North Allegheny since opening night on Oct. 12, 2017 vs. Central Catholic which resulted in a 5-4 defeat.

The Tigers started strong and grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period on a power play goal by Aaron Miller and an unassisted goal by Haden Shimko.

Butler tied the game at 2-2 in the second period on the strength of two power play goals, one by Bennett Thrash and the other by Bekk McClaine. North Allegheny’s Will Parreaguirre answered by scoring a goal with 55 seconds left in the second period to put the Tigers back on top, 3-2.

In a tight, defensively played game with few shots on net, the Golden Tornado eventually found the equalizer on Thrash’s second goal of the night coming at the 12:19 mark of the third period to even the score at 3-3. That set the stage for Bachman’s game-winner in overtime.

Butler’s Connor Strobel faced only 19 shots and stopped 16 of them to earn the win. Richard Karapandi made 18 saves for the Tigers.

North Allegheny picked up a point in the PIHL standings with the overtime loss, sitting at 18 points and second place in Class AAA. The Tigers have an overall record of 8-4-2 on the campaign. Butler improves to 6-7-1, good for 13 points and sixth place.
