Dopirak, Tigers Stay Hot In Road Win Over Pine-Richland
Fresh off their stunning upset of New Castle on Wednesday night, the North Allegheny boys’ basketball team steamrolled the Pine-Richland Rams on Friday night, 50-28, in Gibsonia.
The Tigers continued to ride the hot hand of senior forward Joey Dopirak who poured in a game-high 32 points and single handedly outscored the rival Rams. Over his last four games, Dopirak has averaged 32.8 points per game, including a 38-point effort against Franklin Regional over the Holiday break. The 38-point performance against the Panthers was just four points shy of the North Allegheny single-game record of 42.
Playing without leading scorer Emory Moye who was out due to injury, Pine-Richland mustered very little against North Allegheny’s stifling defense. Vasili Balouris was the leading scorer for PR as no Ram reached double figures. The Tigers built a 19-12 lead by halftime and broke the game open in the second half behind Dopirak’s big night.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in Section 1-6A. Pine-Richland drops to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in section play. The Tigers will carry their winning momentum into a section clash with top-ranked Butler on Tuesday night.
