Ending a brief two-game losing skid, the North Allegheny ice hockey team earned a big early season victory with a 4-1 triumph over the Bethel Park Black Hawks on Monday night. The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and silenced the Black Hawks thanks to a 37 save performance by goalie Joseph Hubert.

North Allegheny took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nathan Taylor at the 8:43 mark of the first period. The Tigers added two more goals in the second period for a 3-0 advantage when John Parks and Dawson Richard tickled the back of the Black Hawks net.

Bethel Park trimmed the NA lead to 3-1 with a power play goal by Evan Oakley with 1:36 remaining in the second period, but that’s as close as Black Hawks would come. North Allegheny tallied one more goal in the third period when Joseph Zappia scored an empty net goal in the waning seconds of the contest to bring the final to 4-1, Tigers.

North Allegheny improves to 4-2-1 on the season and sits in third place in the Class AAA standings, tied with Butler and Bethel Park with nine points. The Black Hawks slip to 4-3-1 on the year.  The Tigers return to the ice on December 1 against Pittsburgh Central Catholic at 7:00 pm.
