The North Allegheny boys’ basketball team hosted Moon in a non-conference matchup from UPMC Court Tuesday night and dropped a 76-60 decision. Moon was one of the top ranked teams in the 5A classification coming into the season, but both teams entered the contest with 1-2 records.

Moon wasted no time shooting out to an early lead led by the strong play from senior guard Elijah Guillory, who led all scorers with 30 points in the game. Moon held 12-6 and 24-12 leads in the first half. Team passing was key for the transition game for the visitors, as nearly all players seeing time for the Tigers found the score sheet. Senior Charlie Depner and junior Carter Tumulty finished with double figures, scoring 14 and 11 respectively. Moon held a 51-28 lead at the half.

North Allegheny clawed their way back into the game in the early stages of the third quarter, led by senior Joey Dopirak, who paced the Tigers with 27 total points. NA had a 7-0 run to start the second half, pulling the score within 16. Fellow senior Joe Marquis dropped 15 points to keep the Tigers competitive into the fourth quarter.

Dopirak earned Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels for his 27 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

North Allegheny falls to 1-3 on the young season and will head to Florida this weekend to take part in the KSA Invitational in Orlando Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
