NA Grapplers Take 4th Place At Allegheny County Tournament

The North Allegheny boys’ wrestling team faced off against the best competition that Pittsburgh area had to offer over the weekend and took fourth place at the Allegheny County Tournament at Fox Chapel High School. NA totaled 206.5 team points. Nine Tigers medaled at the tournament, headlined by freshman Evan Schomburg who took second place at 107 pounds.

Bronze medals were secured by sophomore Gus Stedeford (121) and senior Aidan Buggey (215). Stedeford defeated Central Catholic’s Charlie Colantonio in an exciting 3-1 decision in his third-place bout, while Aidan Buggey pinned Gateway’s Jake Pawlowski in 1:48 in the third-place bout at 215. Senior William Bentrim reached the third-place consolation at 133 and took home a fourth-place medal.

Fifth-place medals were claimed by junior Charlie LaQuatra (114), senior Casey Walker (127), sophomore Griffen Reid (139), junior Kellen Buggey (172). LaQuatra pinned Quaker Valley’s Isaac Maccaglia in 2:50, Walker picked up a 6-0 decision over Robert Hoy of Pine-Richland, Reid defeated Aiden Burford of Highlands by a 9-4 decision and Kellen Buggey beat South Park’s Wyatt Markovich by a 4-1 decision in their respective fifth-place bouts.

North Allegheny looks to secure an outright section title on Wednesday night in the regular season finale against Mars. The home meet will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
