North Allegheny hosted the Northgate Flames in their home opener on Tuesday night at UPMC Court. The home rims were very kind to the Tigers as they hit 13 three-pointers and scored 30 points in the first quarter to defeat the Flames 69-55 in non-section action.
Northgate scored the first three points of the game before North Allegheny went on a 9-1 run. The Tigers would get to lead up to 12 points late in the first quarter and led 30-20 after a period of play. Jon Jubeck was three for three from behind the arc in the first quarter for nine points. Things continued to go NA’s way in the second quarter as the lead would balloon up to 18 points multiple times and the Tigers led 46-28 going into halftime. North Allegheny hit nine of their 13 three-pointers in the first half.
After the first half explosion, Northgate would trim the lead to 14 points multiple times in the second half but that is as close as they would come as NA went bucket-for-bucket with the Flames in the second half and rolled to a 69-55 victory.
Carter Melzer led North Allegheny with 18 points. For his efforts, Melzer was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Justin Stalter and Jubeck both had 12 points.
North Allegheny improves to 3-1 overall. Northgate falls to 1-2. The Tigers open section play on Friday when they travel to Butler to take on the Golden Tornado at 7:30 p.m.
