NA Rolls Over Mars, Prepares For WPIAL Team Tournament
The North Allegheny boys’ wrestling team wrapped up the regular season section slate with a 70-6 victory at Mars on Thursday night.
Facing the last-place Planets, NA collected nine wins by forfeit to cruise to an easy victory. Of the four contested bouts, the Tigers earned pinfalls in two of them. Nathan Monteparte (133) claimed a win by fall over Brandon Frantz and A.J. Rohan (160) pinned Cooper Courson in 1:21. At 152 pounds, Kellen Buggey earned a maj. decision over Joseph Zottola. The lone win for the Planets came at 139 where Rocco Darocy claimed a win by fall.
North Allegheny improves to 10-4 overall and finishes Section 2-AAA action with a 4-1 mark, good for second place. The Tigers advance to the WPIAL Class AAA team tournament where they will face Plum in the first round on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Waynesburg Central High School. The WPIAL first round (and potentially the quarterfinals if NA wins) will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
