NA Wrestling Sweeps McDowell, Pine-Richland At Tri-Meet
The North Allegheny boys’ wrestling team hosted a tri-meet against the McDowell Trojans and Pine-Richland Rams on Friday night. In a non-section meet to open the evening, the Tigers defeated the Trojans, 66-12. The night cap was the section opener for the Tigers and NA claimed a convincing 55-14 triumph over the Rams.
Against McDowell, North Allegheny started the night with a dominating performance and picked up 11 wins, all by pin fall. Earning wins by fall were freshman Evan Schomburg (107), junior Charlie LaQuatra (114), sophomore Gus Stedeford (121), senior Casey Walker (127), senior William Bentrim (133), sophomore Gabriel Hernandez (145), senior Travis Stipetich (152), junior Kellen Buggey (172), junior Mason Hartung (189), senior Aidan Buggey (215) and sophomore Bradyn McConneha (285). Schomburg was named the Wright Automotive Wrestler of the Match with a quick pin fall over Cameron Delgado.
In the section opener, North Allegheny led 21-3 before Pine-Richland posted back-to-back wins, one pin and one tech fall, to cut the score to 21-14. The Tigers regained decided momentum when Hartung pinned Cole Wilson at 189 pounds and NA cruised to the win from that point on. Also garnering wins by fall were Schomburg (107), Bentrim (133), Stipetich (152), Aidan Buggey (215) and McConneha (285). Bonus points were also collected by Schomburg (107) and LaQuatra (114), who earned tech falls in their respective weight classes.
With the tri-meet sweep, North Allegheny improves to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in Section 2-AAA. Pine-Richland drops to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the section. The Tigers will visit North Hills on Monday for a section dual meet at 7:00 p.m.
