Strong 4th Quarter Leads NA Past Aliquippa, 54-48
At the Pittsburgh Classic at Montour High School, the North Allegheny boys’ basketball team vanquished the Aliquippa Quips, 54-48. Facing the second-place team in the Section 1-AAA standings, the Class 6A Tigers trailed 38-34 going into the fourth quarter. NA outscored the Quips in the final stanza, 20-10, to claim the non-section win.
North Allegheny was paced on the scoresheet by senior Curtis Aiken’s 14 points. It was a tough day from the field for Aiken, but he punished Aliquippa from the free throw line with 11 of 13 shooting. Coming off a strong performance against Altoona on Friday night, senior Zach Johnson posted another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Mike Iuzillino touched double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.
Following the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-9 on the season. Aliquippa slides to 13-5 on the campaign. The Tigers will visit the Butler Golden Tornado on Tuesday night in Section 1-6A action at 7:30 p.m.
