Strong Showing For NA At Connellsville Duals

The North Allegheny boys’ wrestling team took part in the Connellsville Duals on Saturday and earned a pair of victories and faced a pair of top-10 opponents at the event.

Despite pin falls by William Bentrim (133) and Bradyn McConneha (285), the fifth-ranked Tigers started the day with a 34-28 loss to eighth-ranked Greater Latrobe.

North Allegheny bounced back in the afternoon with a convincing 63-11 triumph over Frazier. The Tigers received pin falls from Gus Stedeford (121), Gabriel Hernandez (145), Travis Stipetich (152), Kellen Buggey (172), Aidan Buggey (215) and McConneha (285).

In the finale, the Tigers edged second-ranked Connellsville, 28-25. Trailing 18-10 with  six bouts remaining, North Allegheny rattled off four consecutive victories to take a 28-18 lead. The rally started at 172 pounds where Kellen Buggey earned a 9-2 decision over Nicholas Rohai to trim the deficit to 18-13. The Tigers took the lead when Mason Hartung pinned Cooper Lembo in 2:59 to grab a 19-18 lead. NA stretched the advantage to 22-18 thanks to a 7-4 decision by Aidan Buggey over Christopher Cook at 215 pounds. McConneha capped the run with a win by disqualification against Tyler Gallis and NA led, 28-18. The advantage proved to be insurmountable and NA prevailed to improve to 14-3 on the season overall.
