Three members of the North Allegheny boys’ basketball team made their college decisions official on Friday afternoon. Seniors Joey Dopirak (Dickinson College), Ty Iwanonkiw (Cornell University) and Anthony Sciote (York College) all inked their letters intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level.

Dopirak earned All-WPIAL honors from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and first-team all-section accolades from the Big 56 Conference. As a senior, Dopirak led NA in scoring (21.2) and rebounding (6.7) during the 2023-2024 campaign. He became the ninth Tiger to surpass the 1,000th point plateau and finished his NA career with 1,099 points, which ranks him sixth all-time in program history.

A dynamic and versatile threat at 6’11”, Iwanonkiw was second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and rebounding (4.7 rebpg). Averaging 1.2 3-pointers per game, Iwanonkiw led the team in shooting percentage from beyond the arc, hitting at a 34.9-percent clip. He was named second-team all-section by the Big 56 Conference this season. Iwanonkiw will play for a Division I Cornell men’s basketball program that went 22-8 this season, reached the Ivy League semifinals and earned an invite to the National Invitation (NIT) Tournament.

The facilitator of the NA attack was Sciote. A point guard with sleek moves and quick-decision making, Sciote led the Tigers in assists (2.6 pg) and 3-pointers per game (1.6). Averaging 9.7 points per game, Sciote was tabbed second-team by the Big 56 Conference this season.

All three players were integral in North Allegheny’s second-place finish in the Section 1-6A standings and WPIAL playoff appearance. They will each participate in the Roundball Classic for the Class 6A all-star team on May 25 at 7:00 p.m. at UMPC Court.
