The North Allegheny ice hockey team traveled to the Mt. Lebanon Ice Center for a AAA matchup against South Fayette on Thursday night. A late comeback chance was dashed in the shootout, as the Lions beat the Tigers 3-2.

South Fayette opened the scoring on a power play in about five minutes into the first period. Hudson Vennum scored on the man advantage, assisted by Nathaniel Keller and Jackson Ankrum. Just about a minute later, NA responded with a goal from junior Anthony Lucas, assisted by freshman Cole Maier.

Vennum netted the go-ahead and lone marker of the second period for the Lions in the late stages of the frame, assisted again by Keller.

The Tigers found the back of the net in the middle of the third period, this time on the power play. Senior Kyle Imm scored, assisted by fellow seniors Alex Costa and Joey Mitchell.

South Fayette got the best of North Allegheny in the shootout, winning the game 3-2. Johnny Alex scored in the first round. Junior Cedric Otey tied it up in the third round, but the Lions found the game-winner from Vennum to seal the deal.

Sophomore Chris Costa made 11 saves in the contest for the Tigers.

North Allegheny is now 5-5 on the season. The Tigers are back in action Monday night from the Baierl Ice Complex when they host Central Catholic for a 9:00 puck drop.
